There usually is a reason why you buy a car cheaply, so join us in this exciting eposide to find out exactly why eveyone refuses to work on this Range Rover!
I had a new discovery in 2000. Good for first 10 years. the 11th yr had the 3 amegoes fault. Land rover dealers did not know how to fix it. Just kept replacing lumps of engine parts. Spent $10,000 in that year. Eventually, I found the toothed abs sensor on the rear wheel had tooth broken off. Had new hub fitted, all problems fixed. Then, I sold the car and bought a Holden. So don't trust a landrover dealer. Seek independent advice.😊
You can have the dealer send injectors away to a specialist for cleaning and recalibration. A lot cheaper than new ones, and that is what most dealers would do.Thats what happened to mine, so I had pristine fuel delivery, but still other problems.
It’s missing that engine couple of cylinders down normally at the back where they get hot and less oil. Oil in a diesel is black by default so no issues
The white smoke and wobbling idle are signs of a faulty/ stuck egr valve, also its not good to leave cur running in idle as egr valve will clog up further these engine need a good run on the motorway at high revs to clear out the egr valves
Im not sure that changing the oil that amount of times was worth it.. Diesels always turn there oil black.. You would have been better spending the money on the correct diag tools and then finding the problem. The wires are a common issue on the top of the shocks, they rub and then u get a active dynamics issue. Just based on the spoke you either have a injector/ egr issue or even a turbo issue, but checking values etc would lead u in a not LR dealer cost direction.
Oil does have cleaning inhibitors in it. These 10k oil changes are a joke. 3-5k changes are key to keeping your internals clean and preserving the turbo. I would of been inclined to take the sump off first clean that and the oil pickup then would of driven it for 500 miles dropped the oil, replaced it, do 1k, change and replace again then do your 3 or 5k from then onwards
Run the car for 10 minutes, then drain the oil from the sump plug,,, not by pumping it out. Running the car before the oil change stirs up all of the gunk and sludge in the sump, then ir drains from the sump plug. That electric pump will not suck up the rubbish in the bottom of the sump pan. Diesel oil is never clear for long, it goes black fairly quickly. Doing the above and draining from the sump pan would have saved you a fortune in oil. All you were doing is stirring up the sludge, making the oil black, the lumps of sludge sink again, change the oil and it gets black again. Check your coolant for any contaminates as head gasket or inlet gasket water leaks can cause the white smoke.
I did not want to go beneath the car as it was collapsed on the left and the jack stands and axle stands I bought were only 2 tonnes for my BMW 530i not 3 tonne, the jack as well was only 2 tonne. I regret not using the sump method and won't bother using the pump method, yes you are correct, thanks. Technician managed to find a crack on the 7th cylinder so the car is having a full rebuild including the big end bearing, turbos and cylinder head, another reason changing the oil was not going to fix the problem. Hopefully the car will be ready in the next 2 months. I was quoted a good price so he will fix it when he has the time.
@@makonimotors Thanks for replying. It may end up cheaper if you look for a reconditioned short motor and have the garage fit the other parts from your old engine to the new one, Labour costs on doing a refurbish can sometimes be a lot more than a buying a reconditioned engine. I've been a mechanic for more than 40 years, to be honest this would be the advice I would give if someone booked in for this type of repair.
8.5L is all you need. Level should be just over half when cold or you’ll have overfilled it. Trust me. All diesel engine oil will be black even after a 5min run in new oil. Blame the modern EGR system for that.
Never use a main dealer. Plenty of much better independent specialists around the UK. Again, avoid all main dealers. Where in the UK are you? I know a few.

I enjoyed watching your video. Its clear you are a true fan of the range roverl322 and i hope it gets sorted soon and then you can enjoy it.
You seem like a really genuine guy. Subbed
I reckon a few more oil changes yet 😂 . I admire your determination sir . I’m taking my 3.6 tdv8 to my local garage next week for a full service 👍.

Should always go with new ones and copper seats.
Re manufactured ones are always a gamble that normally don’t pay off

On the 2017 mot it says the coolant is low and leaking. Wonder if excess heat was a factor for the engine failing.

Always wear gloves as well when doing anything with oil. Many people have ended up with cancer from various motor oils
Would removing the samp and cleaning it be a better option?
How did the technician fix the cracked cylinder?
Security torx screws go on the ECU bracket
Invest in a GAP IID Bluetooth diagnostic reader. Superb bit of kit. Will save you thousands in the long run 😊
The amount of work current;ly conducted in service revenue would be a bargain to purchase for someone should you sell
The adaptive dynamic wiring on front struts are a known weak point.
Engine sounds rough and lumpy doesn’t it , probably expensive .😮

The car looks like a poorly maintained money pit of a tdv8 , does it have any service history ?
Have some respect and don’t leak oil all over the ground outdoors. Put some cardboard down that you can dispose of properly!
I have to agree. That will end up in the water courses . Also wear some gloves, used oil is very carcinogenic
Looks to have been overfilled by quite some margin.

I show you how to extract overfilled oil here czcams.com/video/P6vuxwCftAM/video.html
