    I see a lot of people talking about how this movie resonated with them via college but honestly this movie hit me most as a disabled person. The fact that, despite all of his hard work, Mike just can't do what others can is something I think me and a lot of other disabled people can relate to. Some things are just...not possible for you. And it hurts. A lot.
    but at the same time, it doesn't make you any bit less compared to your peers. Mike couldn't do but he could guide and teach. He had all the knowledge that others needed. He could make others great. I remember starting out this movie thinking it was alright but when it got to the heart to heart speech, I broke.
    It's a rewatchable movie for years to come just for that scene.

      What a new perspective- I never thought of that since there isn’t a very obviously disabled character. Like there’s no blind monster, or one of the jocks gets paralyzed from playing too hard, someone gets badly burned from one of the scream cans exploding, etc.
      I like that; you opened up my eyes :)

    • @LangkeeLongkee
      @LangkeeLongkee Před 2 lety +11

      @@AdamIshak01 I think the horizon of what is considered disabled just needs to be broadened. Just cause something isn't a disability among humans, doesn't mean it isn't in the context of the world. For example a fairy with no wings would be considered disabled in her world, so would a witch without magic

    • @AdamIshak01
      @AdamIshak01 Před 2 lety +3

      @@LangkeeLongkee I completely agree. I mean sometimes it’s extremely obvious (ex: Quasi from Hunchback of Norte Dame), and sometimes it’s noticeable even if it’s a not a “stereotypical textbook disability”. The one movie that comes to my mind right away is in the 1998 animated movie Quest for Camelot which is uses the King Arthur legend for its storyline; all the main characters have a disability while trying to defend themselves, complete a quest, and fight a magically villain. The Double headed Dragon can’t fly, there’s a blind man trying to be a knight, and then just an ordinary fully able bodied woman named Kayley who wants to be a knight and avenge her father by finding the sword of Excalibur. Even though she’s a completely healthy athletic fully abled body human, her disability is being a woman in a man’s world. Everyone in the movie finds an optimistic strong body, and strong minded woman a weakness until she proves them wrong.
      So I understand what you mean, but I just didn’t see it with MU. I can honestly say it went over my head.

    • @ma.2089
      @ma.2089 Před 2 lety +6

      @@AdamIshak01 disabilities don’t have to be obvious. In the case of showing disabilities, I think the fact that Mike can’t operate like other monsters simply cuz he isn’t scary fundamentally, and that no training can fix that, shows it’s a disability. Another one is that one monster who can’t move fast. That one is for comedy, but it’s also a disability.

    The message in this movie I feel is very underrated.
    How many movies hammer in the moral of 'you can do/be anything, if you work hard enough/want it badly enough" ?
    Like... no. That aint how real life works. you CAN'T be anything you want. And teaching this to young kids is gonna result in them being ill prepared for disappointment when real life hits them.
    Don't get me wrong, it's great to send the hint of 'ward work is admirable and can increase your chance of succes, but it''s not a guarantee."
    This movie however, tells that no....your WANT is not always the same as your NEED. But if your initial dream doesn't come true, that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Try different things in life, because there is def something out there that you ARE good at.

    It's nice to find someone else who appreciates this film as much as I do. I legit found this better than the first one simply because the characters are more interesting here. Yes, it deliberately contradicts the first one by having Mike and Sully meet in college when the first one mentions they were childhood friends. Yes, it has a less inventive premise. But interesting characters can more than make up for a weak premise, and this movie proves that.

    The scare professor was right. To her, they were two students not really caring about it and instead fighting with each other. One of them just didn't try and thought his natural ability would be enough, which is extremely false for University; you might have an easier time compared to the others, but you will still have to struggle and learn a lot. The other is good as an instructor for how to scare children, but a real scarer needs to look scary even if they don't try to

    I remember this movie came out and everyone pretty much graded it a C/B- because everyone said it was good but not as good as the first one which I don’t know why.
    I feel like whether you’re a little children, a high school student, college student, parent, an adult with a job, etc, this movie relates to so many age groups and races since the monsters are obviously very diverse. And after reading some of the comments, which gave me a new perspective, a lot of disabled people really loved and related to this movie.
    This movie hits so many good points in regards to friendships, bullies, family legacies vs your own happiness, and apparently as I learned from other comments, a metaphor for disability. Pixar has always been amazing at showing people even if you have an idea or a plan, and it doesn’t work out without the happy ending you thought, that’s there’s still so many other great opportunities for you- and that you shouldn’t just box yourself in with one idea, or one plan, or one career. This movie more than any of the other ones amplifies that.
    Edit: Thank you to everyone who mentioned the disability metaphor. I never really noticed or thought of that so I have a new perspective and respect for this movie :)

    I really like this movie. I like it more than the first one. It's also a really good allegory for disability in a great way. A lot of stories like to spread this message of "you can do anything you set your mind to" and while that's nice for kids it's idealistic, and it's simply not true.
    There are some things that I can try and try but I can't do, if I really could just suck it up, believe in myself and do it, I wouldn't be disabled, that's kinda the point. A paraplegic person can't realistically just suck it up and run an advanced marathon, but maybe they might discover they're really good at piano, they find something they can do that works for them and they enjoy. Yes there are things we can work harder for, and things that accomodations can be made for (like prosthetics and such) but sometimes we can't do things. And that should be okay.
    Messages like you really can just try hard and do even the impossible leads to people forcing people like me into dangerous and uncomfortable situations because they think we should be able to just do it. This movie has so many cool messages, and that's one of them that I really like.

      @@videohistory722 Pixar takes 2 seconds of a movie, lets a furry headed monster with glasses pour himself with paint and smack it on a canvas followed by an energetic percussion solo of another monster.
      People are debating for centuries on how to 'properly combine' painting and music. There are over 10 Minute long videos of people talking about the combination of painting and music in theory on CZcams...
      Who of them would've guessed it is actually that simple?

    wow! I've never really seen anyone watch Monsters University before watching Monsters, Inc. but I don't think it ruins the experience. this was a great reaction! I remember when MU first came out, I kinda refused to watch it because I loved Monsters, Inc so much and didn't want to see it ruined. I was so happy to be proven wrong when I finally broke down and watched it recently. I'm excited to see your reaction to Monsters, Inc. and see you connect all the dots ❤️

    Excellent reaction! I grew up watching the original and I got to see it on ice. And I was glad that they had made a prequel to explain to us how did Sulley and Mike come to work together. What you can take from this film is that everyone has different talents; that is what makes them special. Mike may not be scary to be a scarer, but he is fearless and smart to be a scarer’s assistant. I highly recommend after you watch monsters Inc., you can check out it’s sequel series Monsters at work. That will give you more information and fundamentals of how the business works at the corporation. 💙💜💛💚👹

    The movie wasn't that really well received on release, but personally, I think this is Pixar's most underrated movie. I wouldn't put it up there with Pixar's best, but I think it does a good job at giving us a better understanding of Mike and Sully's relationship.

    When this movie first came out, I didn't want to see it. I wasn't in college yet and I just didn't know how to feel about a prequel. Since I grew up watching the original I thought the movie wouldn't have a strong plot since I know by Monster's Inc Mike and Sully were the best of friends. But this movie surprised me that it was really good. Plus the monster designs are still amazing and fun. It was interesting to see you watch this one first though. Glad you enjoyed it!

    Excellent Nick! It's good that you already saw Monsters University, although I think it would have been better to see Monsters INC first, because the truth is I really enjoyed seeing that one first, since Monsters University is the prequel. I recommend that you watch A Monster In Paris (2011), the story is very beautiful, although it will remind you of Beauty and the Beast, but you will enjoy it. Take good care of yourself, Nick and I’ll wait for your next reaction

    Thanks nick for reacting to monster's University hope you're feeling better anyways mike wazowski the green one eye monster was voiced by billy crystal and Sullivan the big blue monster was voiced by John Goodman I was wondering after you do both monster's University and inc im hoping for an animated Charlotte's web 1973 reaction it's animated musical adaptation of EB white's children's book before the live action version was released in 2006 it was made by Hanna Barbera from paramount pictures the first animated movie of the studio not to be based on a tv series what I remember about it watching it on vhs is that Debbie Reynolds was the voice of Charlotte the spider she was the mother of Carrie Fisher for playing princess Leia from the original star wars trilogy Debbie was known for playing Kathy selden from singing in the rain 1952 with gene Kelly as Don lookwood one of my favorite musical movies of all time.

    It's so cool that you're watching the prequel before the original, that's pretty rare. Although some people don't like this movie, it's definitely a better film in the 2010's for Pixar, especially regarding sequels/prequels.
    Watching this before Monsters Inc. definitely brings a new perspective without the knowledge of Mike's role in the it.
