      Hey, Nick, hi. I am sorry. I already you four questions on the Monsters, Inc. post yesterday, but can I ask you another question?
      You know Robots is made by Blue Sky Studios, the same company behind the Ice Age movies, right? (To the point the director are co-director are the same from the first Ice Age movie). So could you make a playlist called "Blue Sky Reactions", since you have it for Pixar, DreamWorks and Disney? Please, I see Blue Sky as an equal to Pixar. Plus, considering Blue Sky shut down last year, it would be very nice.
      You should also have playlist for Illumination Reactions (2012's The Lorax and the Sing duology) and Sony Pictures Animation Reactions (Hotel Transylvania, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).

      It was a good sort of tiny redemption arc to me. Because especially since for most of the movie Mike was treating Boo like an animal he wanted to throw out but at the same time we would react the same way if a monster walked into our realm so it’s understandable to a degree.
      Basically what I’m saying is that they did a good job balancing Mike’s character and that final scene was the key to that.

    Much like stated in the movies, each kid has a specific monster for their specific scaring. Boo is scared of reptiles, noted by her monster Randall, whereas she finds Sully, a furred monster, not a problem. As well as their tactics in scarring. Randall (most likely) goes for an ambush style while Sully goes for a loud roaring type. Which is what made Boo cry, not scream.

    One of my fave bits of continuity in these films. In the prequel, Hardscrabble gives the scenario of “this particular child is afraid of snakes - so a roar wouldn’t make him scream, it would make him cry.”
    And WHAT happens in this one when Boo sees Sulley roar? Furthermore, her assigned monster is Randall, who has a strong resemblance to WHAT kind of animal…?

    • @AdamIshak01
      @AdamIshak01 Před 2 lety +21

      I was looking for this comment cause I was thinking the same thing! And that’s why they have specific monsters for specific kids! Another comment said something similar about the reason Boo is scared of reptiles so Randal is her “ideal monster” because he’s a reptile and goes for sneak attacks while Sulley is just loud but soft and furry so Boo liked him. She didn’t see Sulley or most of the other monsters as scary. And when he did his roar, that’s why she cried and didn’t scream.
      Everyone loves Monsters Inc and gives Monster University a bad rap, but I love both equally. They’re very much on par with each other.

      Also when Hardscrabble says how it may alert the parents if the kid doesn't scream, similar to how when Pete "Claws" Ward could scare the 6-year old, so they're force to shred the door, into order to avoid "exposing the monster world".

    Interesting to note: The voice of Boo, played by Mary Gibbs, was only 2-3 years old at the time of recording for this movie. To get her to act on cue, the director had a boom mike hanging over her head while another crew member gave her toys to play with, even having to chase her around with the mike still above her head. She had no clue about the mike.
    And Boo’s real name just happens to be Mary. It’s briefly displayed in her drawing of Randall.

    • @BeboRulz
      @BeboRulz Před 8 měsíci +1

      Do actors have to be on cue for animation?
      They are all recorded individually, so I figured they just added everyone where & when needed.
      Maybe they were chasing & playing with her on order to get different and/or specific silly noises 😊

    The scene with Sulley saying goodbye to Boo and her sad “Kitty” always gets me teary even though I know he gets to see her again since Mike fixed her door.
    I love Mike and Celia as a couple together- they’re both one eyed lizard monsters. It def shows that even though Mike was the typically loser in school, he had more of the “American dream” life than Sulley- great happy job that he loves, good stable job position, a longtime best friend, cute girlfriend, his own place, etc. Sulley has always been popular and yet all he focuses on is work; with his status and family legacy he could easily be doing better than Mike and he’s not. He’s stuck, until he meets Boo and she opens him up 🥰

    Three facts about the film:
    1) In order to get the voice lines for Boo, the crew had to follow the girl chosen around the studio because she like most kids couldn’t stand still.
    2) This was nominated for the first ever Best Animated Feature Oscar alongside Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, but both films lost to Shrek.
    3) The octopus chef at the restaurant only has 6 tentacles because he is a reference to Ray Harryhausen’s giant octopus monster from It Came from Beneath the Sea which only had 6 tentacles due to the puppet would have been too difficult to animate with 8 like a normal octopus.

Mike is trying to be a good friend to Sully by getting this kid situation dealt with, however while Sully is goofing off with Boo, Mike is getting his hands crushed, date rejected, warned by Randall, Kidnapped and nearly tested on by the Scream Machine for his efforts. Mike is trying his best with the cards dealt, but even when he does fulfill Sully's wants of getting Boo's door, his efforts get rejected, when Mike is planning to escape and leave Monster's Inc, Sully instead goes to Mr. Waternoose causing them to get banished.
    While Sully is doing his actions from his heart and trying to be a good monster, he rejects and ignores all opportunities Mike presents and wastes his efforts, and if Sully listened once, while it would have had the bad long term consequences (that they wouldn't have known about) it would have solved their dilemma and they could have gotten back to their lives with little to know trouble. Instead by ignoring Mike, they get banished and Sully had ruined his relationship with Mike, taking away everything he earned and cared about. While Mike would loosen up after a bit and their relationship would be fixed, it shows that you need to take care of your friends/relationships otherwise you could end up hurting them. Maybe someone can do a more thorough analysis on Sully and Mike's relationship throughout this movie, but I just wanted to talk about it, as I think it's something interesting during a watchthrough.

    Dean Hardscrabble's criticism of Sully was correct: "...the girl was afraid of snakes, so a roar wouldn't make her scream, it would make her cry...." Boo was afraid of snakes(or the serpentine Randall)and seeing Sully roar made her cry.
    One of the things I really loved when I finally noticed it(probably only a year or two back, lol)was that we NEVER see a real child scared by the monsters...until Sully does the scare demonstration and we see Boo's terror. Up to that point, the scares were treated like essential and jokes(the slumber party one, for example), but then we actually see Sully as a big scary monster for her.
    The Waternoose twist was a way better twist villain than a lot of later Disney film attempts, IMO. Definitely didn't see it coming!
    That was the joke for the sequel, that the Abominable Snowman was banished for opening other peoples mail.

    Based on the Pixar theory, when the monsters on the news are over exaggerating about Boo, they are actually talking about Jack Jack as he fits the description, from the laser eyes and all his other jack of all trades abilities.
    In Incredibles 2, Jack Jack is able to teleport between dimensions, which can actually fit since the Monster World is seperate from the Human World

    Out of the movies Pixar has made, Monsters Inc has always been my most favourite because it has the perfect emotional scenes, comedy and one of the best plot twists with Waternoose being part of the scheme because we were so focused on Randall. I love the friendship between Mike and Sulley and Boo is such an adorable kid that the first time I saw this I cries when Sulley made Boo cry because it showed Sulley that what they were doing wasn't actually fun, it was a trauma for the kids that brought real fear. I also the music that goes with the scenes because it makes it really bring the emotion depending on the scene.
    This movie has and always will be a 10/10 for me.

    Sulley's reaction of Boo going through the trash compactor is the same as Marc-Anothony's in the Looney Tunes cartoon Feed the Kitty, when he thinks that Pussyfoot the Kitten is being baked into a batch of cookies. His reaction on being reunited with Boo, first scolding her for running off and then hugs her happily is also done by Marc-Anthony in the same in the same cartoon, before he has to hide Pussyfoot in the flour box before his mistress sees her.

    32:05 Actually, this whole machine thing was so scary for me when I watched this movie as a kid, 'cause of this suction thing... brrr.
    But just this part. Everthing else was fine. I especially enjoyed the music, but also the funny moments (for example when Sullivan is going to faint nearly every next second because of the trash machine xDD) and the emotional moments, especially the farewell. It's just a nice movie about just affection. Not love, not romantic stuff, no father-kid thing (okay we could say there is a bit about it), but just about... the affection for another... creature. A creature which is not a part of yours, so, an "alien", we can say (for the monsters), but... just affection for another being. And with this the movie shows very well that it doesn't matter, what kind of being you are or other people are. You can have just, pure, (innocent) affection for another being. And that's a good message I think. But the best here: the movie handle this without to much words about it. It just have good enough dialog parts with the most important informations, so it doesn't have any kind of just "twaddle" and the other parts it narrates us the story and all this with the action moments, and with the emotional moments. And maybe that is something the pixar movies are doing very well.

So when that monster on tv was saying "a kid flew right over me and blasted a car with his laser vision" there's a theory he's actually talking about Jack Jack. If you remember, he had the power to go through dimensions so it's possible he ended up there in one of those instances.

One of the things I love about it, besides Mike and Sulley still being a big part of the show, is they make call backs like having scenes from the movie to show what is happening to Tylor while it was happening, and even mentions Boo!

    In this case, it means code white sock, the most common thing that tends to stick to monsters when they come out of the human world.
    And there's actually another one during the Harryhausens scene, if you listen really close:
    7835 = GHCE = Girl human child escaped
    Even better: Disney fully embraced this whole thing, and added more in Monsters at Work.
    1320 = MT = Monster trapped
    418 = DR = Damaged room
    42216 = DVP = Door Vault paperwork
    1994 = SID = Shut it down
