  • This is an updated tutorial on How to Remove the Background from an Image in PhotoDirector 365 from Cyberlink. PhotoDirector is a desktop photo editing app that you can use on Window or Mac operating systems. It’s a great Photoshop alternative for photo editing.
This desktop image editing app provides users a great degree of flexibility with a variety of features and advanced settings to edit your pictures. The photo retouching features include skin smoothener, face and body shaper, blemish removal and color correction. With the layering option you can enhance your picture with precision.
You can take regular photos and add stunning visual effects and animations. Some of the photo visual effects and animations include: dispersion, light rays, glitch effect, sparkles, etc.
You can also take regular pictures and apply amazing AI Style Effects and turn photos into masterpieces. With the AI-powered Sky Replacement feature you can take an image with a sky and replace it with presets, including animated sky backgrounds.
I updated this tutorial because recently, Cyberlink (the makers of PhotoDirector) updated their software and made it easier to remove the background from images. Now the process is much simpler and automated.
Now, all you have to do is import the image into PhotoDirector and choose the option to remove the background image and the software does the work for you. In some instances when you need to do some fine-tuning, you can use the restore and remove brushes which is also what I show in this tutorial.

    Thanks Anthony
For simple pictures this works pretty well. For more complex pics, e.g. with fine hair, the program struggles, even in the expert mode and with finetuning, there is always some background color contamination left over, which I cannot get rid off. I am not using Adobe Photoshop, but I saw they have an addition function to eliminate such contamination. Would be nice to find that in PhotoDirector as well in a future version; or do you have a work around?

Hi Adrian, yeah, the quality of the background removal will also depend on how complex the background is. I'd be happy to test the background removal tool with an image that you have. Feel free to send me the image(s) via my Facebook page using Messenger.
You will find the link to my FB page in the about section of my CZcams channel. If it doesn't work well, I can even send my feedback to the Cyberlink team so they can look to improve the tool in PhotoDirector.
