Crossing the Gulf of Alaska - Part 1 - on our trawler, Sea Venture - EP 96

- We head off across the Gulf of Alaska, making a stop in the village of Yakutat along the way to wait out some weather. It turned into a great stop. We had a great time exploring the ocean beaches, caught a nice halibut from the tender and enjoyed the sites before heading back out into the open North Pacific for our final leg across the Gulf.

This is our trawler life story.
We retired early and decided to make a big change. We sold everything and moved aboard our 54' Cheoy Lee passagemaker, a “go anywhere in the world”, ocean going power boat.
That was in 2014 and we have never looked back.
Now in our late 50's we are free of work and we are living aboard and cruising our trawler full time.
We have two additional crew members, feline brothers, Blake and Barkley. Yes, we have two brave (sorta) boat cats, on board!
Join us and our crew, on our adventures as we explore new places, discover more about our trawler and what makes her work, and learn more about ourselves in our young retirement years. Our hope is to entertain and inspire you to pursue your own passions through telling our story of our cruising trawler lifestyle.
We end most episodes with a “Trawler Q&A” where we answer your questions.
Thanks for watching, subscribing, and liking Cruising Sea Venture!
Best, Jim, Rosy, Blake and Barkley

Wow. Someday I hope. 🙋🏼
Great, thanks.
Good to see Yakutat again.
Lekker man lekker
that would have been fun catching that fish.. sure was a good size.
I got a little behind on your videos and am pleased I am now able to catch up and keep the dream alive. Recovery from back surgery is nearly complete, at least the beginning stage. This one went better than any of the 7 before. Yeah! Soon. It is starting to look like soon I will be searching for my very own boat to have my very own adventures on. First hand and not Walter Mitty style. Thank you and be safe.
Nice, limited and quiet use of background music - perfect!
Your going to love PWS. You should come over to Cook Inlet for a visit.
I really enjoy living vicariously through you guys, and would love to meet you both in person one fine day. Stay safe out there and keep on living the dream!
Enjoyed watching the kitchen sove work out on the gimbels on the stove mounting; also your new dutch door hatchs) looks great. Thank you both!
Nice job...Thanks for sharing...
Is it possible the cats are quiet in that sea because they don't like the conditions much?
The cats are very funny.
There's another CZcams channel I love to watch and it's Dangar Marine. He (Dangar Stu) has 'restored' an old small steel trawler. I loosely apply restore because his build is nothing - I repeat nothing like what you guys have done yet still it is becoming a great little workhorse perfect for his needs. Utilitarian is a word I might use to describe his resto. After watching Dangar Marine I feel you should be thankful for your choice of a fiberglass trawler LOL.
Anyway, he and his wife live on a small island in the Hawkesbury River called Dangar Island which is in a large estuary north of Sydney Australia.
He has chickens at the end of his vids and like your cats I'm a great fan.
The cats are not great fans of the open ocean travel. Thanks, Jim
Yo - sea venture. I sure enjoyed 'our' stay in yakutat. Thanks for taking me along. Those big 'ol fish must have provided you several fine dinners.
What a view, you beautiful boat and the water work so well together.. so nice…
we want to be a buddy boat, like igloo
We are really enjoying your videos! Thanks for sharing!
Spent a few years in Homer while in the Coast Guard, beautiful place.
Boy, do I envy you guys !!!
As always really enjoy your video’s. When you head south to Mexico, please stop at Brookings, Oregon, great harbor and easy safe bar most of the year. Would love to meet the two of you. Safe and smooth trip. Chuck Thomas
The cats are so well behaved out on the dock. Don't they wonder off?
They do not. They do chase any dog they see, but they stay pretty close and we keep our eye on them. A bigger problem is they like to visit other boats - especially commercial fish boats. . . Thanks, Jim
GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS!!!!!!!!! THANKS!
Greetings. I’ve watched all of your videos and this is the first time I’ve noticed the stove/oven rocking due to swells (at the 7:20 mark when Rosy was talking to the camera). I think Rosy is generally in front of it when the camera is pointed that way and Jim is talking to her from the pilot house. Next time there are swells and you don’t think the camera is capturing how big the swells really are, just show us the oven! Have you ever been baking when swells developed?
The beach scenes, driftwood, black lab, and other beachcombers were a nice addition.
Jim why didn't you just tow the buddy boat. Save them some fuel. Going to the same place. Nordhavn owners would get a big kick out of that.
No Icy Bay ? Love your channel, covering destinations I'm going to.
Really enjoyed! In another video I would love to hear about how you prepared your weather routing for wind and wave. Nobody wants to get caught in the bad stuff. For example, how many wind/wave models did you use and how many had to agree. What's your wind/wave max tolerance. Do you add to the expected wind to account for weather man error. Etc. Calm wind and flat seas I say! :)
Thanks for continuing to share your adventures. Curious how your ride quality during crossing compares to the N47. I believe your boat has longer water line, heavier displacement, and has the BB - but looks like like the N47 also has paravanes and stabilizers.
living the dream.....how many times a day do you pinch yourself?
Every day. Thanks, Jim
Wait a minute, I am confused, thought you guys were headed for Mexico?
Headed that way now. Leaving for San Francisco in a couple of days. Should be in Mexico around the 1st of the year. Thanks, Jim
PLEASE!
I am confused I thought you were heading south to mexico, but now you are heading north? :)
We are, just needed to get a little further south first. We are now in Everett leaving in a couple of days for San Francisco. Should be in Mexico around the 1st of the year. Thanks, Jim
@@CruisingSeaVenture thanks for getting back to me, was trying to be sarcastic and failed miserably. I need to work on my delivery. But I thank you for the update and wish you calm seas and no wind.
I'm looking at a FLEMING
65?
Flemings are great boats.
Cats ever run off?
No, they hang out on the dock and chase any dogs around, but that's about it. Thanks, Jim
Why do you continue north when your goal is Mexico?
Because there was more to see up north before we headed south. Leaving Everett, WA in a couple of days for San Francisco. Should be in Mexico around the 1st of the year. Thanks, Jim
We want to go with you in 2022. We are buying a 65 foot cruiser. CAN WE PLEASE FOLLOW YOU???? please ! We are fun people. We just don't want to try it by ourselves. my wife and I are 55. My son 19 years old would be joining us. and our two golden retrievers. Please!
