    Let's stroll along the iconic boulevard du Montparnasse. In this part of town, it straddles two arrondissements, the 6th and the 14th.
    Between the famous "carrefour Vavin" (place Pablo Vavin) and the Montparnasse transportation hub at the foot a giant tower that's dominated the Parisian skyline since the 1970s, locals and visitors can experience Parisian café culture at its best in some of the most iconic brasseries to be found on the city's sidewalks.
    The impoverished artists and writers, political refugees, foreign socialites (and other members of “the Lost Generation,”) who once turned this area into a vibrant community during the Roaring Twenties, are long gone, but their ghosts may still haunt le boulevard and side streets.
    See more of the 14th arrondissement (and one of the best market streets in Paris,) in the replay of this virtual tour I led in June 2020 along the rue Daguerre, one of the best Parisian market streets in my book:

    Bonjour Vero.

    I’m so happy that you’re covering the great artists ,writers , poets and musicians that frequented Montparnasse. My parents who were ex-pats met there in 1952 I was born in 1958 in Paris and we lived until 1968 when the May riots broke out we had to flee. I hope you will talk about another great spot which is Shakespeare and Company bookshop. We have been going there for decades. I currently live in Vermont and I have just discovered your Vlog. I look forward to more content

      Bonjour Carole. Thank you for stopping by. I published many virtual tours around Paris in 2020-2021 and you can find them all here. I have no doubt several tours filmed on the Left Bank feature Shakespeare and Company. :-)

    Hi Vero, thank you for another great video in the Montparnasse area, my favorite part of Paris. I recently left a comment on your Rue Daguerre video, explaining my love of the 14th (and its border with the 6th). As usual, I enjoyed your details and information.

    Thank you for the impromptu tour. It clearly has cooled down there. Most people have jackets on.

      It's been a strange summer, the weather changing every 5 minutes. It definitely pays off to dress in layers right now.

    I always learn so much from your tours! I did not know about the Bretagne connection, for example, or that all those iconic cafes are located there. Merci for this most interesting look at this area!

    Thanks for another interesting tour. I'm a big Giacometti fan. My next Paris visit, I will visit the Giacometti Institute in Montparnasse and try to see his old studio if that's open to visitors. The tower really took the glow off, though. I went up there, took some photos.

    Hello again, Véro! I've started reading a book called "The Only Street in Paris", a loving tribute to life on the Rue des Martyrs. Apparently the street, it's split between two arrondissements and each segment has a distinct character. It sounds like a street that has a lot of interesting history. Would you consider giving us a tour one day?

    • @francewithvero
      @francewithvero  Před 3 lety

      Bonjour Greer. That's a good book! La rue des Martyrs has changed quite a bit over the last few years, but it could be fun to return on a live-stream. I will keep that in mind for a future Paris visit :-) Thank you for the suggestion!

    Bonjour, Vero! Another beautiful stroll. I don't know Montparnasse, but I've certainly read about its charms in Hemingway's "A Moveable Feast". I can't wait to return to Paris so I can visit all of the neighbourhood's wonderful cafes. I'm a "flâneur" club member and I still haven't figured out how to join your livestream events. So far, I've been watching your videos on CZcams. Do I have to join the livestream events through Facebook or can I also participate via Patreon? I'm having trouble with my Facebook account. It was hacked a while ago so I shut it down and I haven't been able to re-activate it. I feel like I'm missing out if I can't join your live events. Any advice?

    Great explanations, though much like all the big hubs of industry it funds too much fossil fuelled transport systems. We need these cities to ban oil and natural gas manufacture and dispersal. Our systems must evolve not remain stemmed.
