- In this video I explain to you guys where the current whereabouts of the Standard Gauge, Thomas and Friends model props seen on TV back in the day are currently. Whether, they're on display, in storage, owned by collectors, or heaven forbid were thrown in the incinerator. Find out in this video!

PART 2 OUT NOW: czcams.com/video/4pc7oZk3-Hg/video.html
The Thomas Model is owned by Mattel and is Under Lock and Key in their storage.
This shows that Mattel truly wants to display that they Own Thomas & Friends. Not just the character, but a franchise as a whole.
I think they're only keeping it under lock and key, is because they don't want it stolen by people. The perspex Thomas is I think the most sought after. What Thomas fan wouldn't want that in their collection?
@sodorlorekeeper828 Exactly.
There was talk of Mattel using the model for a flashback sequence, but that ultimately fell through.
It’s in chains because Thomas is the main character and is thus the most valuable one. They don’t want it to end up like the season 4 Rheneas and Duncan models.
@sodorlorekeeper828 yes, but what I worry about is will they be seen again or will they end up like Peter Sam?
At least most of them are safe
I agree
Agreed 👍. Even though Drayton Manor hasn’t done a good job lately.
@@TrevortheTrainFan yep. Drayton is a junkyard compared to others.
@@BobThomas123 We need a proper preservation for ALL the models, especially those that are currently in storage!
Regardless of the condition, Drayton Manor has managed to preserve many of the models. We owe them a lot really.
I think Mattel should show Thomas’ original Perspex model for something special, maybe an 80th anniversary event. I would absolutely go there, and Mattel would DEFINITELY make lots of money off of it.
@sodorlorekeeper828 That would be AMAZING
@sodorlorekeeper828What's that? Please reply to me!
@HitlerLovesAnime The Missing Coach was a filmed episode for Series 2 featuring Donald & Douglas but it ended up being scrapped as they thought the storyline was too confusing for children...they replaced it with Thomas Percy & The Coal.
Down The Mine is the original pilot episode of Thomas The Tank Engine but it was re-filmed as the version we know from Series 1
@@acidmack1041 Can you explain both of them to me?
@@TheFunnyDictatorThe Missing Coach was supposed to be the episode where they feature the scottish twins, but the release was canceled and they replaced it with thomas, percy and the coal, but soon made an episode titled Donald and Douglas (which was supposed to be the missing coach). Although, some of the footage of the missing coach was leaked.
I’m surprised Matel doesn’t own ALL the original models
I’m surprised no models were actually destroyed or throw away when they stopped using them.
The large scale engines for the most part were disposed of sadly.
It shows that people cared enough to save the props from a cruel fate.
@@FlyingFishProductions Not too mention the various props, including some buildings, road vehicles and other minor props from Series 1-5 and some props from TUGS during and after production of TATMR due to the poor handling of the airport staff.
@@FlyingFishProductions The close up models are in storage, but they do show wear and tear.
@@GothRailfan If you’re referring to the photos I think you’re talking about, they were all thrown out. There’s images of the nearly destroyed close-up modes next to a large dumpster outside the storage unit. There were some parts salvaged though, not many unfortunately.
I'm glad Mattel and fans like TTM saw fit to preserve as many props as possible.
INCLUDING ME
Basically almost every model: OWNED BY MATTEL!
Luckily old iron, rusty red scrap iron, little green caterpillar, and wooden box were saved by collectors.
Wait, did someone find the Toby model? I thought it was stolen from Drayton Manor and never found.
The one stolen in drayton manor is a brass model, the one sold is the original plastic one.
It was made for season 12 and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was only used for one episode.
I hope the thief gets caught soon
@geelong2280 considering how the models were treated in drayton manor, many think he was saved but will never be seen again, it would probably be a long while before we see that toby again, kinda like how the ruby slipper were stolen.
Im definitely glad a fair few are in safe hands. Truly a shame about the ones that arent though :(
I am so happy to hear that the models at Drayton Manor are going to be relocated to a better place and can’t wait to see how the new layout will look thanks for sharing this video of my childhood favorite show 👍❤️
If I had the money, I’d try to purchase all of these original models, mechanically restore them, outwardly backdate them to their original debut appearances and take them on exhibitions to raise awareness for a little project called the model mania museum; a special museum dedicated to the preservation of props from Thomas and other similar shows such as tugs or the Thunderbirds. Giving a home to these legendary pieces of history that made countless memories for children all over the globe.
We need a part 2 with the road veichles or narrow gauge
Mattel are just Greedy
so glad to see theses models well and going
`Arry & Bert and Splatter & Dodge were my favourite characters for some reason, pity seeing that they'll likely never see the light of day again :<
would've been nice to see them in Project Tiger Moth or something
Seeing Toby like that is painful, he was my favorite from the series
Same here
Same
Recently I actually got to see the original Emily and Thomas from the model series at the Thomas exhibit in the gollisono children’s museum!
I hope Mattel plans on restoring City of Truro's model but to its original look. It's rather sad seeing it as a scrap engine. I also hope that Mattel will one day show the models in storage to the public again.
BTW, what about the models you didn't mention. What happened to Neville, Molly, Flora, & Hank?
Molly and Hank are at Drayton Manor's Discover Thomas exhibit. Flora’s coach is there too.
Those post Season 7 characters will receive a video of their own.
I doubt Mattel would restore city of Truro Model because it’s too badly beaten up over the years quite be easier to make a replica
@@JosephRailwayStudios2000 Yea, trying to restore that model to what it looked like back in 1991 would be hard it not impossible. We don't know the condition of the perspex, and if sanding off the brown paint and rusted appearance is really worth the effort. Making a brand new City of Truro model would be more feasible, not to mention have it run. The original model was never made to run. It was set dressing from the drawing board. So restoring it is pointless.
@@GothRailfan I understand
Nice to know that, apart from Flying Scotsman's tenders, all the original models have been accounted for and seem to be in relatively good condition.
i wouldn’t call it “good”
I remember alot of the models being owned by ABC and on display at their headquarters running on a track and being in horrible condition. Im glad they are in good condition now and safe.
I’m glad to know that a lot of the models are safe, but I do wish they were on display
Not going to lie I was hoping for a comedy piece. Like Thomas is in rehab for the 10th time
I miss the model props
This was so much better than the current productions.
I watched Shining Time Station when I was little boy in the early 90's. Kids programming was the best back then.
Dude this is so interesting. I felt like I was the only one who wondered about this lol. There was no way I wasn’t gonna watch this when I saw it in recommended 😂
I remember these Thomas the Train Engine models in the animation on for example PBS this is a serene and nice memory :)
애니메이션과 PBS 등에서 나온 기관차 토마스 모델을 기억합니다.
So if Thomas’s original model is in Mattel’s Storage, would this mean that they would’ve had the authority to use it for that fantasy sequence that we were to get in the planned series 25?
Yes they have full authority since they own the model, but plans for that ultimately fell through.
What are you talking about? Please reply to me!
@@TheFunnyDictatorif we actually got a season 25 instead of All Engines Go, there would've been a time travel episode where the CGI episode would go back in time and meet his original model in a dream sequence.
SURPRISING.
@@joeythecat7482 How do you know this?
I like that you started the video with Resonance from Home playing in the background! I love that song and I loved this show as a kid. So the fact that the 2 came together in this informative video is amazing lol
I feel bad for boco, he's bending down in the middle
Spencer reminds me of the LNER A4 which I am lucky enough to have an example an hour from my home. It is probably my favorite engine at the National Railroad Museum. (It would've been neat to see all six of the surviving engines when they were brought together in York! As would a movie about how they got the two from the US and Canada across the pond and to the museum in York.)
That’s what he’s based off of. Most , if not all, the engines in the show are modeled after real life locomotives.
Arry’s model is now display on Drayton manor but Bert’s model is probably still in Mattel storage
Wasn’t the last appearance from Gordon’s model in TGD or season 12 or was that the brass model?
Also great video man keep it up 👍
I can just imagine the scene now, entering the boss of Mattel's office. It's dark, the shades are pulled; they're wearing sunglasses, slightly highlighted by the rays of light coming in through the Manhattan skyline and piercing the shades.
A nervous man walks into the office, sidled by two larger gentlemen in suits. They guide him towards the desk and the boss.
"See that safe over there?" The boss says.
"Err, yeah" says the obviously underachieving employee.
The boss stands up. "I've got Thomas the fucking tank engine in there, and don't you forget it. If I say I want the quarterlies on my desk by Friday I mean it. Back to your desk, you're more unreliable than Edward."
This gives me president from monsters vs aliens vibes
Hearing that the models of Henry, Gordon, Duck, Daisy, BoCo, and Class 40 are owned by Mattel makes it even worse since they allowed those models to get damaged by Drayton Manor and Tugs The Exhibition.
Then again they probably just see these character model as model trains with faces instead of tv props.
We need one about the narrow gage engines. (They're My personal favorites in my opinion.)
How Hit Entertainment handled the Drayton Manor exhibition is shocking.
Those CGI faces are soulless.
I never understood the difference between the original models and the brass models, because to me they look the exact same, examples include Thomas's, Gordon's, Percy's and Toby's models, they're plastic and brass models look the exact same, no differences whatsoever, meanwhile Edward's, Henry's, and James plastic and brass models have minor differences, but still looking very similar. I need an answer to how people can tell the plastic and brass models apart from each other because to me, they look the exact same
"As of 2023, Thomas' original model is owned by Mattel and is under lock and key in their storage, and has not been seen by the public in 16 whole years"
Further proof Mattel doesn't care about the heritage of the show, as if All Engines Go wasn't enough evidence.
Weren't the prop models rebuilt for Magic Railroad and used in the series after from the sixth season? Instead of looking glossy, they changed them up to have matte finish paint jobs.
Oh please for the love of everything, someone PLEASE restore that model for Toby, he deserves so much better
Are you going to do a video on the where are the close up props of the locomotives now next or not?
Video-10/10
Music-11/10
i wish you could part 2 where you focuse on the models of season 8-12
There is two models of diesel 10.
The first one is his actual model and the second one is the one when he has the long version of the claw that is used for viaduct scene.
mattel stole all of my friends, AND KIDNAPPED ME?!
You know, I know the characters that I'm gonna mention isn't featured in this video, but I own any Thomas character prop, it'll be Thumper, Alfie and Oliver (excavator). Hopefully they're doing OK in Mattel's storage and not being thrown away.
I would love the Rosie prop, the one in storage. Hopefully that model is doing okay. I can't say the same for the duplicate at Drayton...
@@GothRailfan Wait, there're 2 Rosie models? I didn't even know that.
@@CraftsTimReview Almost every HiT era character got a duplicate model built. Honestly it was a waste to do that, being that most of characters would only appear sporadically, not do much, and/or never appear again after like one appearance.
Wish you went over the Skarloey Railway engines in terms of their models.
Fuck I hope Mattel is taking care of that stepney model sense that's my favorite character
And Trevor.
And I hope TomsProps is still taking care of the S4 Rheneas and Duncan models.
The ultimate mode, would be the wooden trains that Rev Awdry make for Christopher
So cool!
9:38 rip harvey
Are you going to do a narrow gauge version of this video?
Well done used to love this when I was young. What about Percy. At least they all survived.
9:27 Percy be like 😶
Oh god poor class 40 atick at drayton manor
Nice, love this video
The down the mine pilot Gordon looks so… wrong… like it looks so wrong it’s genuinely kind of unnerving to look at. If I had to guess it would be the face.
6:16 "The half that we got of him"
I crack myself up!
If Bear was in the classic era, do you reckon he would have used the same chassis as BoCo and Daisy?
Not the same, but similar. He would’ve used the Gauge 1 Marklin DHG 500 as well most likely, like BoCo and Daisy.
All these original models sold away is fkn sad
Daisy didn’t share boco’s chassis until later episodes - I’m pretty sure she was depicted as bo-bo originally x
😭I miss the good times
Think you can do a vid on the narrow gauge props sometime?
What's the music? I know its Home, Resonance but this version is looped. Can anyone give me a link to it?
Here's the link to the song: czcams.com/video/neS27tiZ8J0/video.html
@@FlyingFishProductions Thank you very much!
Glad to see many are safe, would be nice to see all of them at Drayton manor at some point. Idky but i always think Arthur’s nose gives micheal Jackson vibes 😂
0:13 yall hear resonance by HOME
I admit I need to get a few of these by Bachmann Like Gordon & a bunch of his express coaches Duck especially since I had one as a Matchbox!
need Bill too since I got Ben cause it my rl name!
think I read they wanted to do the whole story with the Flying Scotsman but didn't cause of what you said!
We need a part 3 troublesome trucks in rolling stock
I think the real Thomas is in the train museum cuz I saw him moving on a train track in the train museum
Congrats.
It's a shame they switched from models to animated
I recall having a debate with someone about wether the toby that was auctioned off was the perspex or brass model I had go explain brass doenst break like that evident by all the damage showed in the photos safe to say I was correct.
at least some of my childhood … has been saved 😊👍
will you do an episode on the brass models?
Are you going to do part 2 of this
Interesting.
I wonder if you have any plans for doing a follow up to this video but with the narrow gauge engines and the engines from Seasons 9-12.
And road and boat and rolling stock
You’ll just have to wait and see 😉.
Thomas will never see the light of day again.
I wonder what's in the storage unit and what it looks like 🤔
I used to think, Diesel was 11, Boco was 12 and Daisy was 13.
Toby wasn't stolen,he was rescued
w video! keep up the great work!
So in theory some of the models could be used in a season 25? (Will never happen but cool to think about)
both thomas and stepney are some of my faves, WHY should they stay hidden?!?!
will you do the models of jack and the pack and the narrow gauge engines
I was an investment analyst in London. I went to the launch meeting for the flotation of Britt Alcroft who owned the Thomas the tank engine rights. Great meeting, we could all remember Thomas in our youth. At the end Britt, an unusual woman not in the standard city garb, said something line Gentlemen please remember it's not about the money it's about the kids. Her financial advisor looked so crest fallen I thought he was going to jump out the window.....
No Idea!
I think this is the real Thomas
Fergus’s model is owned by Sam Wilkinson and has been on public display at the Gauge 1 model railway association’s 2019 exhibition.
Sam Wilkinson works for Mattel and has access to the props to loan them out for display purposes, he does not own Fergus' model.
@@FlyingFishProductions oh I see. My bad.
When I was 6 1/2 and Lindsay was 3.
Do more of the brass copies
The others are in Drayton Manor
BILLY WHAT ABOUT BILLY
Imagine Somebody Collects The Scrap Set Dressing And Is Slowly Restoring Marklìn
The ones at Hara aren’t owned by Mattel, they’re owned by the museum itself.
Which museum are the Mattel models located in, I can't make out the pronunciation.
Poor stepney
9:28 that picture of facless Percy is cursed and will haunt my nightmares. Lol
