Roger, the drummer, deserves a standing ovation for backing Freddie and his drummming! ❤❤❤
agreed!
He’s just the best!
Such a massive crush on Roger when I was younger and his voice… amazing.
Roger is simply FANTASTIC as a drummer and ,of course, as a singer!!
Forreal! ❤
I’m old. I saw Queen live. Twice. People don’t even know 😂
All 4 members of Queen have college degrees... Fred in Design, Deacy (Bass) in Electronics, Roger (Drums) started in Dentistry but I think ended up in Biology... and Brian (Guitar) in Astrophysics... while Fred did receive piano lessons in primary (grade) school (just a few years worth) the others are self taught on their instruments and NONE of them received formal vocal training.... they are truly an amazing band with sheer raw talent.
that's crazy!
@@TheCottons Also, all four have multiple gold record writing credits. For a sample: May, We Will Rock You and Fat Bottom Girls; Taylor, Radio Ga Ga and I'm in Love With My Car ;Deacon, I want to Break Free and Another One Bites the Dust; and Freddie wrote a bunch.
It’s doctor Brian, he’s a physicist
Great react from the couple I was coming of age in the 80 s never better time to hear no auto tune!? Ps thanks !!!
Another tid bit of information is that Brian and his father built his guitar when he was a kid. Not sure of his age but I believe that they built it from an old table and some appliance. The same guitar he has now.
No autotune, no sampling, no backing music, no choreography. Just four talented friends who made great music and put on great shows.
And a whole lot of MoJo!
Plenty of choreography in the sense that the moves were the same every show.
@@betsyduane3461 if the moves are the same every performance then classing it as plenty is completely hypocritical to your point
@@AlainnCorcaigh Nope, all pro performers practice
True all performers do practice. But not all performers are created equal. You could practice your whole life and be multi talented and still never reach the pinnacle that certain artists including Freddie Mercury could reach. Recognize talent, true talent for what it is and then celebrate it. Don’t criticize from your armchair.
I spent my 24th birthday at this concert in Montreal. We traveled 5000 miles return from Alberta to Quebec. It was worth every mile!! Freddie was wonderful. Owned the crowd whenever he was on stage.
Awesome!! ❤
Wow.. you are the first person I’ve heard that went. Awesome
My god I am jealous
Congrats! One of the best concerts ever! You are soo lucky!
So awesome! Where are you from in AB?
❤ for calling out Roger Taylor's killer vocals on this...very few reactors do ❤
That a girl bucky!
You’re so right on that point,
When your lead guitarist is an astrophysicist , you know your band might be special.
Its not beer. Its honey and lemon. He valued his voice more than anything. He took care of that. Valued it. Miss you Freddie. X
You have to do their 20 minute set from Live Aid 1985. It's the greatest 20 minutes in music history.
🔥
Freddie wrote this song, but all four were songwriters and wrote hit songs. All four are in the songwriters Hall of fame. Although Freddie was lead vocalist, both Brian (lead guitar) and Roger (drums) could sing as well. Normally for backing vocals, but they did sing lead on some songs. Check out I'm In Love With My Car from this concert to hear more of Roger and '39 (studio version) to hear Brian.
None of them went to music schools, Freddie had a degree in art & design as well as fashion, he designed the bands logo and some of their early outfits.
Brian has a PhD in Astrophysics and has worked with NASA, as well as building the guitar you see him playing here with his dad in his late teens. She is called The Red Special and is made from odds and ends such as a mantlepiece, knitting needle, tabletop etc.
Roger started studying dentistry and ended up with a degree in Biology.
John has a degree in electrical engineering and built a unique amp which Brian uses out of parts found in a skip, nicknamed The Deaky Amp.
As you can see, highly educated, but the music came naturally.
All 4 are in the songwriter's hall of fame!? that's insane!
@@TheCottons Only. And in history to have all four members write no1 singles!
FYI..no auto tune in those days...all live performance...yes this was inspired by Aretha Franklin...Freddie was fan
Roger Taylor (drummer) has SIX solo albums. He just released one called Outsider last October. It’s beautiful and has a couple really good rockers on it as well.
Hey guys loved your reaction. Thank you for doing QUEEN videos. You will find out that QUEEN is the greatest live band ever. All four members have wrote number one hits. The lead guitarist is considered as one of the greatest guitarists in the world. FREDDIE MERCURY is the GREATEST ROCK SINGER EVER also he is considered the GREATEST FRONT MAN EVER. You will find out that QUEEN has multiple hits and I am pretty sure you have heard them in one way or another. So I have a song I would love to hear y'all react to it's called WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER live July 12th, 1986 at the Wembley concert. FREDDIE'S vocals on this song is amazing. Thank you again for great reaction and for doing QUEEN videos. Looking forward to seeing more QUEEN on your channel. Take care and have a great day. Your new friend , QUEEN BEE 🐝🐝🐝🐝
Who wants to live forever live concert in budapest in 1986 is best.. but both wembley and budapest incredible ! Amazing!
While it's sad your generation missed out on seeing this kind of music live... It is So Amazing to see you appreciate the phenomenal music my generation grew up with! 🥰 Keep on your journey down the rabbit holes of the classic artists~ you won't be disappointed
It's always so interesting hearing people say, "Imagine what it was like in the 80s" when I was in my 20s then and have memories, not imaginings. I was blessed to see *Queen* in 1978 with Freddie and it was one of the most memorable parts of my life. The entire stadium pounding their feet and hands to the _We Will Rock You_ beat, starting 30 minutes before they even got on stage, getting louder and louder with each passing minute. I can feel the thunder still. I am so happy you are discovering *Queen* . They deserve to be memorized.
Queen concerts were legendary. All members of the band took turns writing their songs, and yes Roger, the drummer, is an outstanding voice.
Yup. especially hitting the high notes in Bohemian Rhapsody !!!
That climax "somebody to love" give me goosebumps every darn time
Yes! I was loving them in the 90’s! And my college in San Francisco had the flap at half mast when he died…we all cried our eyes out.
Thank you for loving Queen and Freddie in this generation because beauty never dies.
actually, the beer was there as product placement. the glass was a honey mixture for his throat.
The drummer, Roger Taylor, has a rock-n-roll voice that would easily allow him to front any band that didn't also have Freddie. lol. He actually frequently took lead vocals on a track or two on each album - songs that he would write. Brian May - the guitarist - is also possessed of a very nice singing voice which shows up in Queen's extensive use of overdubbed harmonies but also as lead vocalist on songs that HE wrote. Bassist John Deacon contributes harmonies but no lead vocals - of course, he also contributes masterful bass lines.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Deacon studied electronics prior to joining Queen...and he built an amp that Brian May used extensively to create his orchestral guitar effects. Freddie held a diploma in graphic art and design, using those skills to design Queen's branding. Roger Taylor holds a degree in Biology and Brian May is merely an astrophysicist, for real. These are not just extraordinarily talented musicians but very smart gentlemen, as well.
Guys you've got to check out " SAVE ME " from the same show in Montreal 1981 absolutely amazing
Love your reaction. Yes Roger Taylor does have a couple of solo albums. They all can sing. If you look at the original video you'll see this song is like bringing you to church
I was around in the ‘70’s and ‘89’s and saw all the GREATS live in concert…….from Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson to Bob Marley, David Bowie and Queen.
This was an amazing time for unforgettable music.
All the boys can sing, and all of them have written songs for the band. For me they are the complete package. I was around in the 80s. Anyone with a heart born between 1950 and 1970 are the coolest people on the planet. I saw live bands that are now legendary, including Queen...seven live gigs, the Beatles four live gigs, The Who more than 20 live gigs...today's Grandmas lived more in our youth than many teens/twenties today.
My favorite Queen song!! This performance is considered by many Queenies to be their favorite! The amazing thing about the band Queen is their brilliant discography .. so many great songs & genres! Freddie still considered the best rock vocalist/frontman on the planet. Queen members are in the Songwriters Hall of Fame & Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. From this same concert ya gotta do DRAGON ATTACK & SAVE ME!
I saw Queen at the O2 Arena in London last evening. Freddie of course was phenomenal and they paid homage to him. I was very struck by the large number of young people attending. Quality musicians from a band that I first saw on television in 1974 when I was 15. I am 63 now and finally had the privilege of seeing them thanks to my beautiful daughter's father's day gift. Amazing! Great reaction guys. Thank you and best wishes from the UK. Take care.
Martin, it is soooo wonderful your daughter gifted you a QAL concert--you are loved, indeed! I sincerely hope that you loved every moment of that epic concert/performance!!!
@@yvonnewakefield7748 Thank you so much Yvonne. Your message felt so heartfelt and is so lovely to receive. Sending warmest wishes.
@@yvonnewakefield7748 And I did indeed love every minute. It was phenomenal 👏
Two words,....LOVE IT!
The performance that turned me into the obsessed Queen fan that I am is "You Take My Breath Away" live at Hyde Park 1976 to a crowd (150k-200k) ... Freddie performed it when the rest of the band went on a break so its just him and the piano. I like it better than the studio album. I am blown away they were able to record this and preserve it so well considering we're talking 45+ years ago.
That metronome I mentioned before is clearly noticed here as he holds up his finger (couldn't have been for anyone but Freddie - thus my self metronome observation/label) and at parts he's pushing sound out like we push air out to clean our eyeglasses and he's able to make it music and it's clearly heard by the audience. *faint* *swoon* let alone this being the BEST love song of devotion.
czcams.com/video/UBBne8R66xo/video.html
That's very intriguing what you're saying about a metronome... (I'm just trying to catch up!) ;D
We have never heard that song! We will for sure check it out!
@@TheCottons infact, the live version and studio version are so different and beautiful in their own ways. i'd compare both of them with eachother
@@TheCottons yeah, You Take My Breath Away from their Hyde Park Show was one of Freddie’s rare moments when he sang that song with his falsetto voice. It was just amazing.
All of the members are brilliant. All have won awards for writing Queens music...Freddie Mercury, Roger drummer, Brian guitar, and John on bass guitar. You guys have begun down the Queen rabbit hole you won't be able to stop! Freddie is still missed more every day. The talent that man had was irreplaceable!
As a long time queen fan since 1973 I love to see you young ones carrying on the love for them. RIP Freddie Mercury , the greatest rock band leader ever .
As long as the music lives and that will be forever! 👑🌈💙
All four members were artists and songwriters. Their talent makes me cry.
👏👏👏 This is one of the greatest live performances ever.
Freddie loved Aretha Franklin's early gospel style singing and he wrote this song as a tribute to her. Freddie considered this song better than Bohemian Rhapsody from the writing aspect, it was his favourite. Do more Queen reactions and you won't regret it. Pls, check out White Queen at Hammersmith 75.
remember while listening to this that it is a live performance and he and the band sounds that good with NO AUTOTUNE...... and no other computer aided crap that todays singers use.... this is why they sound soo good just pure raw talent. the whole group wrote songs that where number 1 hits around the world.
The only group to have had all members of the group to write a no 1 hit song
Not only does Freddie do most of lead vocals, but guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor also do some lead vocals, bassist John Deacon only does some back vocals...Freddie, Roger and Brian have individual albums
John Deacon wrote some of the most popular hits right, - Another one bites the dust
Great reaction! Queen has so many amazing songs, many that you've heard. We Are the Champions, we will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody, and more. My advice would be to react to the live version of any Queen song before the studio version. They were probably the best live rock band of all time. And I agree with Beth Ford below who says you should check out You Take My Breath Away live at Hyde Park. It's a musical masterpiece by the greatest frontman in history, Freddie Mercury.
Yes, this was Freddie's favorite song. He wrote it thinking about Aretha and her style. He loved Aretha Franklin! He sings this song differently every time. You should listen to the studio version as well. Completely different but still awesome.
Queen love of my life
Great reaction. Glad to see their amazingness being appreciated!
You can always rely on these guys to “nail it”...each one a Master in his own right. So uplifting and love to see young folks like yourself reacting to this, and indeed many other songs! My advice with Queen, watch and enjoy!
The entire Montreal show is online, watch all of them. Would be curious to see a reaction to Love Of My Life! Incredible, unique range of styles, incredible musicians. Very glad to have grown up with this music, not sure there will ever be another era like it.
Dragon Attack from this concert is amazing...very funky! Also, "White Queen" from a night at the Odeon-Hammersmith, 1975 for some early Queen...
All Queen members are real pros!
One of the many things that made Queen great was that all four of them could and did write songs, including hit records for the band. As to song recommendations, how about "Love of my Life" live at Wembley 1986, "White Queen" from the Hammersmith Odeon, or the entire side black of the Queen II album! Keep on rocking!!
Every time I see this video I always think what a joy it must of been to have been at this concert.
BEST BAND EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is true that we were spoiled in the 70s and 80s. So much good music.
Every time I see Queen on CZcams I have to comment, but never know what to say❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
NO AUTO-TUNE, NO LIP-SYNC JUST PURE ART AND TALENT. FREDDIE AND THE REST OF THE BAND WROTE ALL THEIR SONGS, NOBODY ELSE DID.
They write hit songs. An amazing band .the best ever
Nope, not beer. Honey water and lemon to keep his vocal cords from drying out. :) Such a wonderful group - I don't think we will ever see such collaboration between band members like this again. Love your reaction video
Art rockers from the early 70`s who went on to be the GOAT. Great reaction, thanks for the upload. Freddies piano skills are insane.
Yes, Freddie L-O-V-E-D Aretha Franklin, especially her gospel songs. (Brian May, Queen's lead guitarist, claimed that Freddie wanted to be Aretha).
Yes, Freddie is the composer of this song (and it is reported to be his favorite Queen song). All four members of Queen were composers and all four members of Queen wrote songs that became number-one hits. For example:
John Deacon (Queen's bass guitarist) wrote: "Another One Bites The Dust".
Roger Taylor (Queen's drummer) wrote: "Radio Ga Ga" (which is the song that gave Lady Ga Ga her name). Yes, Roger has several solo albums and he sang lead on (and composed) the Queen song, "I'm In Love With My Car".
Brian May (Queen's lead guitarist who is in real life is Dr. Brian May with a Ph.D. in Astrophysics) wrote: "We Will Rock You".
Queen was known predominately as an album band. They released 15 studio albums, several "Live" albums, a multitude of singles from their albums that became number one, and played live concerts all over the world to hundreds of thousands of fans ( a concert in Rio de Janeiro was reported to have 250,000 fans).
The list of Queen songs is long and varied. Their catalog includes hard rock, soft rock, progressive rock, stadium rock, thrash rock, rock 'n roll, R&B, soul, funk, disco, jazz, ballads, folk, opera, show tunes, blues...
Some suggestions in addition to those listed above you should listen to are:
Killer Queen
Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Freddie wrote it in 10 minutes as a tribute to Elvis)
Under Pressure (written by Queen with David Bowie) You might recognize the bass riff. Vanilla Ice stole it for his song "Ice Ice Baby)
We Are The Champions
Don't Stop Me Now
You're My Best Friend
I Want It All
Hammer To Fall
White Queen (Freddie's piano playing on this is amazing)
I Want To Break Free
Breakthru
Who Wants To Live Forever
Liar
Innuendo
(There are so many more)
BTW - Queen is a rarity in that they are usually even better live than in the studio version. You have now heard "Somebody To Love" live. Now check out the studio version ( czcams.com/video/kijpcUv-b8M/video.html ) which is terrific but is a bit different from the live version.
Yes to everything you wrote! Thanks for the studio link for them. They said they wanted harmonies in their earlier video. :)
yes I will check out the studio version!
Yes guys freddie wrote the song he was a musical genius best ever no one can come near his huge talent and of course great show man ever and of course the other members are truly talented brian the guitarist is one of the greatest in rock world and the drummer can sing roo and bass guitarist very talented thanks for your reaction and more queen
Lol 😂 Ditto to everything you said.
Glad you still have the enthusiasm to enlighten these folk
I sometimes forget we were the blessed having experienced it all first hand up close and very personal
But it’s great new generations interested
Can’t not be really ?? Can’t think of a band even now where I can’t hear Queen/Bowie/ etc etc etc
Love to all xx 💋
Wonderful reaction, and thank you for the inspirational message at the end! You have a new subscriber.
80s talented legends will never be repeated again. Freddy, MJ, Whitney, Prince, Madonna, never to be repeated again.
This performance is just amazing and I could watch every day and it just never gets old. 🔥🔥 ✌❤
2 songs later in the concert Roger did a solo vocal called I’m in love with my car. Then he and Brian and Roger went on to do crazy guitar and drum solos. All members are in the top 10 of their instruments among rock players
The Cottons, god bless y'all, have the bestest reaction I've seen to this vid and I've watched a lot of 'em because I believe this performance is unmatched. Anyway, congratulations. I really enjoyed this.
early work...WHITE QUEEN live at Hammersmith
copy that
You guys are awesome! Great music takes influences from everywhere and that was Queen. Thanks for posting 🙏
Nice! Keep up the great work, Cottons. Cheers from Nova Scotia!
All the band members wrote amazing award winning songs. They are truly brilliant! Freddie is considered the greatest front man of all time.
The uncle of my friend was at that concert in Montreal. He always said it was the fucking best thing he ever saw live. I believe him.
Glad to see new people appreciate the talents of Freddie and Queen. Truly one of the GREATEST bands EVER. And Freddie the one of the most talented vocalist ever. BTW reason why Freddie could hit those notes after a beer is TALENT. They had no auto tune like those performing today
Freddie king of rock 🤘 please do live aid 85 queen reaction
Just subbed❤ loved your reaction.Much love from Canada❤🇨🇦
Thank you so much! Welcome to the family 🙏🏼🙌🏽
The greatest live performance every!!!
This is the greatest rock band in history and i will say this again warm tea and honey for Freddies throat
All four members of Queen write songs and each one has has at least 3 number one songs as well as all are in the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame and the band in the Rock And Roll Hall OF Fame. Yep this is the one for Aretha. Amazing performance by the entire band, thank you for your reactions, Roger (drums) and Brian (guitar) both have been lead singers in their own bands and do sing lead on a few Queen songs. John (bass) doesn't like to sing but occasionally will add backup vocals when they need a lower range voice. They all went to school, but not music school. Freddie Mercury (vocals, Piano) had a degree in design, fashion and advertising (he designed the Queen logo), Roger Taylor (Drums, Percussion) has a degree in Biology, John Deacon (bass) has an advanced degree in electronics and invented an amplifier known as the Deacy Amp from items he found in a dumpster that Brian used to create special sounds of other instruments with is guitar. To this day, nobody has been able to duplicate the Deacy Amp though people are still trying, and last but not least Dr. Brian May (guitar) holds a PhD in Astrophysics. None have formal music or vocal training and all play multiple instruments.
Great reaction. Queen was on a different level. They were extraordinary musicians. Each one of them was a song writer and composer.
With show time approaching, towels and drinks for the band’s refreshment on stage would now be strategically placed: water and beer for Fred, beer for Brian and Roger and the Backstage Bar for John, comprising water, beer, soft drinks, wine and whatever spirit or cocktail he fancied at the time: Southern Comfort, vodka or tequila.
- Peter Hince (aka Ratty), Fred’s and John’s roadie and head of Queen’s crew.
probably the best live performance of anything by anybody, absolute legend and rogers backing vocals ex ceptional
Great reaction. Thank you.
My two 13-year old nieces were at this concert in Montreal. They still talk about it. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Freddie didn't drink beer during a performance, he said he didn't want to risk burping into the mic, it would be disrespectful to the audience. Instead he kept tea with honey, to help sooth his throat during a long concert.
They didn't go to a music school but all four members have attended universities: Freddie Mercury has a degree in graphic design and illustration; Brian May is also an astrophysicist with a PhD; Taylor has a degree in biology; and Deacon earned a degree in electronics with first-class honors.
That was an awesome vid fam. ❤☮❤
Guys, I love your passion for great musicians and great music!!!
Great music trivia: Queen is the only band in which all members have written a #1 song.
And each member of Queen has written at least THREE #1’s.
Don't want to offend anyone, but the difference in bands back then and bands now, is sheer God given talent. They didn't have auto tune or any of that, they had to rely on talent.
"God ran out of talent sauce!"
I love it! xx
After the sip of beer and during his vocal climax, you will see a tear flow from his left eye and down his cheek. He preformed with such emotion!!
Yes, the drummer- Roger Taylor - can sing too . He has a solo catalogue and not long ago did a solo tour of the UK. He also had a side band at one stage called The Cross. He played rhythm guitar and sang lead vocals but not drums for The Cross.
Fantastic reaction 👍👍
Hello from Cody Wyoming! All are wecome to the Queen hole... you guys are awesome keep it up😁
THANK YOU!
I'm happy at this time you get too realize, something you had along time ago, music Universal,!
hell yeah. great reaction video. love the love for roger taylor.
I saw them on this tour in NYC, I was 13.
Queen = Legendary
Thanks, Cottons! Not just Freddie - this is the BAND.. (also, piano was where they put all the drinks.. Freddie sometimes took a sip of beer.. but also might have been honey/lemon drink... who knows?)... I love your reaction.. look forward to more...
yes! roger taylor the drummer has a solo carreer! he sounds amazing one of my favourite singers. he can pull of high falsettos (he sang the high operatic notes and sections in bohemian rhapsody) and at the same time he can pull of that gritty sexy rock and roll voice. freddie quoted roger with having "a dog whistle of a voice"
Love the band (truly, 35 year avid fan) but love the hat (Jordan, Pippin, Rodman). Way to combine two of the all time great groups!!
React to NOW I'M HERE, live at Wembley...super sonic energy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Ok, let's do it!" Legend.
STRAIGHT-UP LEGEND!
Great Reaction Guy's
7:25 "the drummer can sing" had to laugh so hard.🤣😂
This is the best version of this song! You should also watch the studio version where the harmonies are spectacular. Freddie was the man. RIP FREDDIE MERCURY 11/24/1991, 1946-1991, He was 45 yrs old when he passed. He would be 77 had he lived. THE WORLD MOURNED HIM ❤❤❤
Rip To A Great Singer, Songwriter Freddie Mercury, We Still Miss You Always
Hey guys, you have just witnessed the BEST BAND OF ALL TIME !!!
No Autotune, All Pure Talent!!
And that Queen band (half of them), despite Freddie dying, is STILL singing and touring (with Adam Lambert) today after 51 years!! They just finished doing a gig at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration in England!!
Lots of music out there (Queen catalog is over 200 songs), both Dr. Brian May (an astrophysicist and the best guitarist in history) and Roger Taylor (the drummer) also have very successful solo careers. Check them out, such musical geniuses!!
Thanks for the reaction... all Queen songs are gold, so you make the choice.
P.S. They also announced they are going to release a "new" Freddie song (old demo never released) come September, "Face It Alone", cannot wait to hear Freddie's voice again.
Blessings to you all... thanks again.
0% autotune 100% raw talent i saw them in 1978 been a fan for 48 years
"May I have some tea with honey, I've got a note to hit in a moment...."
Until today I have not seen and heard a most impressive live performance than this rendition of somebody to love in Montreal
