In 1978, when I was 9 and already broken, abused and lost I stumbled across this guy through his music - he inspired me in every sense of the word and here I stand 40 years later.
I was 9 then also... and broken.
I was 12 then...also broken. Seeing Gary Numan, someone who received a fair bit of ridicule from the press, back now and seemingly stronger than ever - really feels like closure. What a vindication and testament to talent and human spirit. Thanks so much Gary, sincerely. Listening to this is like coming home, finally.
Music from a genius can heal like no other
Wish I had discovered him, then.
I'm still broken -- and nothing seems capable of fixing it, now.
But--hey--at least I can enjoy this incredible music.
Copy that!!!!!
WHo else is rediscovering Numan after decades not knowing he did THIS? Loving the sound here and a reinvention of self if you will.
This man never ages, he just gets better and better.
Love Gary and DRI
Can't believe I discovered him only today! He is amazing!! 😍
honestly i wish i could discover him for the first time again ya know?
This is my forty second year as a fan.😍 Although he never really went away, I'm so pleased he is having a sort of renaissance.🙂
Thats how I felt when I first came across his music I thought is was new but realized it was 5 yrs ago, he was definitely ahead of his time awesome music! ❤
same. I just discovered him a few days ago and he is so amazing
Better late than never. If you love Gary then you might want to check out some Skinny Puppy or some of the solo projects from cEvin Key. Gary and cEvin are good friends and although their music is different there's still some similarities.
He was years ahead of his time, and his music still sounds fantastic.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is absolute GARBAGE without Gary Numan.
he's so underrated
Wiktoria Haleks Given that so many bands openly admit that they were inspired by Gary, I don't think he is underrated at all!
Yes is so much not given his due! This man is my new never to reach goal.
SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!
Wiktoria Haleks, I totally agree!
He suffers from depression and social anxieties, and has had more than enough heartaches in his life. For him the world isn’t a bright and happy place, but he writes with the heart of someone who’s beaten the odds and thankful to be a survivor. I think there’s a lot of people that don’t appreciate his music because they want to keep their heads buried in the sand and pretend the world is full of rainbows and unicorns instead.
For me, I can relate to his music. It resonates with me and helps me feel like I’m not alone.
So true, James. He has had some tough times, yet still writes songs as powerful and beautiful as he ever has. I doubt Gary spends any time thinking about how others rate him. He figured out a long time ago that opinions others have are not the basis for living ones life. It's the music he cares about and the songs prove it.@@jamesstevens2362
Nearly 40 years on and yet again doesn't fail to deliver, take a bow sir you are a genius!
Gary é um artista simplesmente extraordinário. 💎❤️💎🤛
40?
No?
Aspie, yes.
Timeless, therefor, like me.
A very accomplished human being !! and NO! he is not done yet..
This is proceed from his wifes and family support. They are important part of his succesess. They are amazing together!
One of the best albums ever. Gary rips it up. As a big NIN fan I love the metallic wall of noise with the cut through melodies.
Tottaly, colours of Reptile by nin
Sounds like NIN mixed with Depeche Mode imo. Two of my favorite bands. Good stuff!
Trent is the musical son of Gary.
Think about it, Hes 62 today and he looks like hes in his mid 30s, Absolute legend.
Dad loved you since years ago.
Trent Reznor says he was a big influence on N.I.N. He said N.I.N. influenced him back. I can definitely see that.
Unfortunately he's allowed himself to become far too influenced by N.I.N. for my liking.
I was like; Damn, it sounds so much line Nine inch nails.
Never a bad thing, he makes that industrial sound his own with the synth in there aswell, im a big fan of both 🙂
Two of the greats, both humble, both an inspiration.
They know each other. They are peers and artists. They can drink coffee together and talk about what they think..
The similarity is more imagined than the work they put out.
The worlds most underated artist. I've listened to him since 1979. He's a genius for real.
I'm not a hero's story
I'm not a traitor's lie
I'm not everything they said
I'm not here to save you
I'm not your confessor
My sins alone can wake the dead
But do you understand
Nothing can make it better
Nothing can make it go away
And do you understand
That we are lost to ruin
And this will be your end of days
And when the sun fell down
And when the moon failed to rise
And when the world came apart
Where were you?
Were you with me?
When my light burns out
And when my fire is cold
And when my breath is the wind
Where will you be, dear God?
I have no forgiveness
I have a heart of stone
I am a lesson born of greed
I am torn and twisted
I am a broken bone
I am what you made of me
But do you understand
That none of this will matter
Nothing can take your pain away
And do you understand
That everything is shattered
And so the whole world ends today
And when the sun fell down
And when the moon failed to rise
And when the world came apart
Where were you?
Were you with me?
When my light burns out
And when my fire is cold
And when my breath is the wind
Where will you be, dear God?
And when the sun fell down
And when the moon failed to rise
And when the world came apart
Where were you?
Were you with me?
When my light burns out
And when my fire is cold
And when my breath is the wind
I will find you, dear God
UncleHappy5 sounds pretty accurate to me! Good job!
PureSplinterRising I am a lesson born of greed.
PureSplinterRising My sins alone can wake the dead
Well done. Broken bone mayb.
Su Numan sounds more like bone than bond but I couldn't be sure
I appreciate this man even more at 59 than I ever have as a teenager. He's brilliant.
I totally agree. Cars and Are Friends Electric take me on a journey back to my high school days of a 14/15 boy just enjoying life here in the UK. Fast forward to a 57 year old man who recently read Gary’s’ (R)evolution book and simply couldn’t put it down. A fantastic read. A fantastic humble person who’s music and genius lyrics has certainly got me hooked once again as I was all those years ago. Brilliant indeed…..
Holy crap. I thought Gary was a washed up 80's guy. He still kicks major butt! Sounds incredible.
In the early 90s, his music was a complete trainwreck, but he changed his direction, and has slowly evolved into the great artist he is today.
No kidding there! I was 15 years old racing MX is southern cali when his cars song came out. I am now 53. I was floored to see he was back. I am amazed!
Check out last 5 albums!
Amazing song ... and love the lyrics:

I was in 4th Grade when he came out with "Cars" he made his mark. He inspired me to start and sing in 5 bands. Love his newest album!
been a fan for years and years ..... this bloke gets better as he gets older!!!
Amen!!!
His inner soul never left us... listen to the beauty of this track... beautiful industrial celestial Numan
im only 14 and damn gary is a really good at what he does ive been a fan of his for about 8 months im going to one of his shows in about 3 months and im really exited.
He's going to blow your mind young man...Enjoy every second.
Yes welcome to a wonderful world of synthesizer and industrial music....Gary Numan was indeed a pioneer and you have very good taste.
Same ,which one r u going to ?
Welcome aboard, Enjoy his back catalogue, enjoy the gig...You will love every second of it.
Aww enjoy! You have great taste 😊
With every track I hear, I'm more impressed with Gary Numan. He's had this massive shift in style and tone and it is brilliant. I love this new sound, this new darkness that yet is a mature darkness; it's the kind of thing that develops after you've lived a couple of years and been kicked around a little by life. It feels authentic which is something sorely lacking in so many things these days. Thank goodness for Numan!
Very classy engineering, there, Mr Numan. Clean and dirty at the same time. Excellent arrangement.
He should make dubstep it would blow minds. I know a lot of people aren't fans but I think he'd be amazing at it with his voice and sound design. This is kind of close with the heavy industrial feel
Love the fact that you recognize the trickery. This record is EPIC.
It’s fucking amazing .. less is more!!!
Does this mean where was Gemma?
I can't believe I discovered him today and I've been a big fan of Nine Inch Nails since the 80s and I'm 39 years old
One of the best concerts I have ever been to, and I have been to A LOT!!! Gary is amazing!!!!!
God fucking damn, that's all I can say.
Very good vocals on this Track
Very Dark
Absolutely brilliant..roll on Frday❤
I agree great vocals from Gary but the song itself has too much stuff at the same time. He really needs good producer that can honestly say what is working or not.
Psykox666 I disagree. The production sounds great, and Ade Fenton had plenty of input. I love it.
But it sounds the same on every track and thats not good well thats my opinion
I suppose it's a matter of taste, but his early hit album The Pleasure Principle was a classic, and it almost sounded like variations of one continuous track. I think it's a style preference, not a lack of ability on the producer's part. For contrast, I listen to groups like the Super Furry Animals, where it can almost sound like a different group from track to track.
You know *why* Gary's music resonates with so many people? Not only the great skill, but something else. It's *honest.* This message of this song has been on the minds and lips of *many* of us, who've had to deal with the violent opposition of mediocre minds, just as Einstein told us about. I have encountered *many* such people, who really should've listened more, and oppressed a *whole* lot less.
wow this and ruin have made my skin go all goose bumps so good
It's a fantastic milestone. It is rare you have a whole album that draws you in on the first listen - every track is good x
Lo Litre Every track is good. Not many albums I like from start to finish but this is an exception.
+Lo Litre You are so correct! long live Gary Numan
59 years old can always appreciate good rock .
Ditto on both songs.
I honestly still can't believe how amazing the new record is. Maybe it was just right for my ear or something, but really, it's so good! Not a single song is a filler. The concept works and can be felt throughout. Soundscapes (many thanks to Mr. Fenton I suppose) are just colossal. Choruses, synths, oriental nuances are all delicious as fuck. Don't spit in my face, but I don't care much for Splinter (except for the lead single, which I do love very much), but this record may very well be on par with Tellekon in my personal humble top 5. Very glad to receive an album that great!
P.S. Gary, please come to Russia!
Its not you ear,I'm a 90's nu metal fan, this is amazing, I can't get my head round this it's Gary numan have I missed something?
+james king bit late of a response but try out Splinter C: If you imagine this as a sequel, Splinter is the first.
A very late reply, but I'm the same as you. The textures in this record are beyond perfect. Gary does EVERYTHING right. The mix of long, long ago and right now has never been done so well. No one can do this like Gary does. I need a cigarette every time I play this record.
Black Star.
Absolutely beautiful song.
This album is gonna be amazing, loving every track so far.
The world is coming apart RIGHT NOW!!!
I dont know why, but it sounds like a dark industrial when the saints go marchin in version haha... and it's awesome.
Someone made the comment he’s the most underrated artist can’t be truer He is amazing seen the best and seen him many time. Absolutely blows you away. His concerts are tight well managed as far as sets. Can’t say enough especially about his last four albums. Incredible just incredible. People may say h you are just being a fan. No. This shits true he’s badass and getting better.
I feel privileged to have followed this man from the beginning ... Sure, he's had his bumps in the road musically but who hasn't ... This man opened the doors for so many it's impossible to count ... Pure genius.
The future has returned!
Gary if you read this, THANK YOU! I haven’t heard an album *this* good in years! This album will forever be stitched into me. I knew “Cars” and some remixes, I’d be lying if I said I have all of your music. I don’t- yet! This side of you is something your average Phish fan would throw out. But I’m not a Phish fan, and finding “Savage” has changed me. In good ways.
I just wanted to thank you, Sir. I’ll be listening until my heart bursts through the Moon. I didn’t appreciate you and your music before “Savage”. Now I’ve another discography to complete. I bought the full CD, as soon as I could click to order it. Now I better realize what you started with; a few “bloops/bleeps/blooopa/bloops!” (Roughly translated), now I have your universe to explore! And bet your biscuits, I will! Thank you, Sir (and Persia, if she chooses music, will Rattle the Halls of Fools!)
| a sidebar: | - I know she may not choose music , but she’s incredible- it doesn’t take much listening to know she has the Gift. I think it’s amazing that you brought her in- your voices together are very worth the ticket price (if only you had a gig in West Michigan to see live... I’ve seen the Cure, Depeche, Bowie- I hope to add youto the list! One advantage of more or less discovering you this deep into your career means I’ve many albums to go back to (and get you paid). No You = no music today. Rap, rock, current country (that’s a weird one to reconcile) - one would be here if you hadn’t found the emotion in the machines. Thank you, Sir!
This song is perfect from start to finish. Not a single part I would skip
If any of you haven't bought this yet, it comes with an epic surprise. The CD case is actually in a book form, like a child's hardcover book. Very nice touch and expensive to make.
3 years have gone!
My favourite track from the Savage Album, pure brilliance.....
I just discovered Gary and my life is changed
This man's back catalogue is truly amazing, from his b sides to his slower stuff ... His ear for a melody is so underrated it's almost criminal ... Genius.
Love it!
As always, fascinatingly expressive. I've been a follower since 1980. The perfect realisation of Futurism, there will never be a replacement for the authentic genius of Gary Numan.
Futurist Sorcerer of Sound.

It's probably more to do with not bowing to the labels running the smoke n mirror show
