Great video Nigel, My favourite was the vertical image of the Cuillins from Elgol really beautiful, I get criticised when I take a vertical image with such a bold foreground but I love this type of shot and you pulled it off, I was only there a few weeks ago this time staying at Harlosh, and I was out walking over the coastline with the Cuillins ahead of me and slightly to the left and to my right were the Macloeds Tables with the sun hitting the tops of all three at the same time just spectacular , also I do not know whether you have shot a bit further round the coast at Ord looking out across the sea too the Cuillins, look forward to seeing more, regards, Colin.

I think, if anything, this goes to show that none of us are wasting our time with whatever photos we take.
I think you’re right, that flexibility is important. Most of my best shots are found in those last few minutes when I’m actually thinking of packing everything away and heading home. You have to take the chances that you’re given.
I think that goes for your compositions as well, trying portrait when you might only have had a landscape before.
You’ve got some amazing photos here. I don’t think you can say anymore that you haven’t taken any good photos of this location 😜

We came over to the UK for a holiday and Elgol was on the to do list. When the day came we ended up with a flat tyre on the hire car and sat on the side of the road for 5 hours waiting for a spare tyre that should been in the back but wasn't. Needless to saying we missed our window. Sooo gutted! Glad you ended up with good light on the day. At least I get to see it through you. Great video as always!

Elgol is such a stunning location. I spent a sunset there a couple of years ago and got an image that I was semi happy with. Struggled to balance the cliffs on the right (as per your vlog) and the Cullins. You’ve really enticed me to head back and have another go. It’s a simply wonderful place to head with your camera.

The first photo is my favorite. The little house adds the needed scale to appreciate the size of the mountain. And of course, the light is perfect.
One sort of off topic question: “What ball head are you using on your tripod and would you recommend it”? I purchased the Benro tripod you recommended and I love it, and I’m looking for a great ball head for it. Thanks for the video, and more importantly, your inspiration!

The photos this week are great-- I especially love the abstract grass photo-- It does remind me of a Picasso drawing. On you second shot, I love the light but in my opinion, I felt the rocks in the foreground are a little much, a little heavy. When you were introducing the shot in the video and and it was panning back to the full shot, I love the shot when it came to the break line between to heavy foreground rocks and the mid ground rocks that are lit up. I even ran the video back and forth a few times. I would crop this at that break line. Again only my opinion.

Another great Vlog Nigel, having just yesterday returned myself from Ballachulish it's great to see your shot's and thought process, how I would love to go to the locations you shoot from.
My issue is that my wife who has just recently started getting into photography is disabled and access to a great many places is a non starter, as such I/we are limited to the more wheelchair accessible locations, I have learned a lot from watching your vlogs both technique wise but also location wise, I just wish someone like your good self could do a vlog with the disabled in mind, i,e, more accessible locations, yes I know these are the kind of shots that have been done to death, however I'm sure a fresh pair of eye's and a different approach would bring a new perspective to the pot.
I know that there are a great many disabled/less mobile photographers that would gain so much from watching such a vlog.

Hi Dave, Woodlands often have trials that are accessible and would be great to go early in the morning with fog. I realise though it must be tricky as lots of places I go are off the beaten track and I take it for-granted! Maybe others will have ideas as well. - post below.

Would you consider doing a video on the settings you use for your drone? Plenty online but none that I have seen from a landscape photographer that has their eyes keyed into the right look and flying to make it look cinematic. Look forward to your shots from Storr and Quiraing. 👍

On the one hand, nice timing, since I've just made arrangements to take my first trip to Skye just after Boxing Day, and I'm still figuring out where I want to go to get pictures there.
On the other hand, I certainly don't want to just shoot the same things you've shot, so I don't end up just being a 'discount Nigel Danson', so I'll keep looking for places in the books, Google Earth, etc.

You need the tide to play ball as you can't get there otherwise... it is a longish walk around the headland

Another stunning material, Nigel! The views are quite amazing, but without your guidence it'll be half the video it is now. BTW - is anyone having an optical illusion when it comes to the farthest tripod leg, starting in 04:00? ;)

I saw it, too, or didn't, depending on how you look at it. I'm pretty sure that's actually the centre column we see there, and the actual farthest leg is hidden behind the leftmost. But I'm having a hard time feeling sure about that!

Hi Nigel! Wanted to say congrats on the excellent photos, though I couldn't help but be distracted by your wellies :P Could you share where you purchased them?

Love the photo of the mountain in the background and rocks in the foreground. Thinking the light on the rocks really makes the photo standout. Was that a single shot or multiple?

    • @NigelDanson
      @NigelDanson  Před 4 lety

single as at 14mm everything is in focus.

Very interesting video and i love the image at 10:45 . I'm just a bit puzzled as to why you use 2 different camera systems on the same shoot? Is one system/lenses enough to cope with?

One for video (best is Fuji) and one for stills (best is nikon)

Hello Nigel I am curious what wireless microphone you are using to get such good sounds standing so far away from the camera on that cliff.

The drone work out-shone the photography by far this time. Wasn't very moved by any of the photographs sadly... (I usually adore your captures).

Some spectacular photographs, Nigel, and as always narrative was informative and well delivered. Audio in the studio was a bit off, maybe?? Cheers.

Hello Nigel, You've shown us where you get your music. Who is the artist for this video? Really appreciate the excellent quality of your videos! Thank you.
