Scotland's Highlands - Glencoe Landscape Photography In The Rain

After stealing Roy's new Hasselblad X2D camera we venture off into the Scottish Highlands to capture some book-worthy photos in the heart of a rainstorm. The only problem is, we're lost!
After insisting that we don't need Roy's antiquated maps I have to eat humble pie and call him for directions. It doesn't quite go as I'd hoped.
Despite that, I quickly find some strong compositions in Scotlands Highlands without much effort. In fact, getting lost turns out to be a blessing in disguise.
Due to a very soggy hike, I succumb to the need to devour a massive curry but the atmospheric conditions in Glencoe force me to stop and shoot the image of a lifetime.
This is proof that you can capture top-notch landscape photography images even in sideways rain. The next day sees us waiting for the sunrise at Castle Stalker but the conditions might require a little finessing in Photoshop...or maybe a lot. Whenever you're visiting the Highlands you've got to indulge in a full Scottish breakfast so we splurge on our way back to Glencoe. It was alright.
By the time we arrive back at Buachaille Etive Mòr the light is kicking off and we get world-class conditions at this iconic Scotland Highlands viewpoint but alas, my drone is experiencing a major malfunction.
I decided to just shoot handheld with the Hasselblad because I simply don't have time to faff around with the tripod, the results are spellbinding.
Is this my best Glencoe shot of all time and what does Roy suggest I do with my failing GPS? Which base has been tickled and have I really been a bugga?
There's really only one way to find out.

@@fototripper @dgriffgallery What Dave failed to mention was the key to climbing the 'bastard' has to be preceded by 4 pints of the local ale and a huge burger & chips. Then its easy 🙂

You should ask Murray (@scotlandsmountains) for directions up Stob Beinn a'Chrulaiste; it's his favourite location at Glen Coe. There is no path; you need to do some bog trotting at times near the bottom and make your way up slowly. One for next time, but before May, and after September to avoid the midge would be best. Cracking shots - mood central!! Ian

Brilliant video. That light is more often than not like that here. Oohhh the lights rays. To get up to beinn a chrulaiste (opposite the Buachaille you need to walk towards the ski centre until you get to a gate then hug the right hand side of the fence and follow the track. I did a video three months ago (best location in Britain). The last waterfall is called The tears of Glencoe (glen of weeping after this waterfall). Or Elliot’s downfall after the family who use to live in the cottage. Great Castle Stalker. It’s owned by a family down south . I have been in it and it looks a bit 1970’s I am afraid.

I love seeing your work in Scotland... My story: My wife and I's honeymoon involved Scotland 25 years ago. The day we landed is the day my old Minolta camera died. Being young and stupid I didn't go buy a new camera while there. So, I spent 17 days in Scotland without taking a single photograph (no camera phones existed then). One day I'll get back there. Till then, I'll have at least your videos to warm the soul. Thanks for what you do Gavin!

Besides, you don’t get all that green without a lot of rain.

The hill you were trying to get up is Beinn a' Chrulaiste which has a track and guides galore on how to find it. However, for the the best view of Glencoe you need to scramble up the side of it on a feature known as Pink Rib. Quite a bit of effort but loads of fun and a special, special viewpoint.
