You said it! Not mention that a well writing story having its characters with unique personality, but Dunmesh is another level. In Dungeon meshi, no one is built to be a main character or a hero (Laios don't have super strength, Marcille can't shoot multiple piercing lazer beams, Chil is literally a locksmith, not even a rogue who fights, Senshi choose to be a true farmer) but we choose to follow their story anyway and see how hard they try. Every character has their own strengths and flaws, fears and desires, thoughts and feelings, purposed and choices and that diversity of indivitual interacting with each other. How they have plans and fails, how their choices follow by consequences, the story is thoughtful scripted by Kui Ryoko. And this's just about character building, don't even say about world-building and art style and many more that make Dunmesh is an absolute masterpiece!
People mistakenly that laios the main character , but I’d like to view it as the author chose to him as the viewer eye , if you take another perspective all the member have the same screen time and we can chose to see their perspective like playing an actual game
Marcilles outfit is more fashionable than the others but it’s use it to give her more mobility it’s more lightweight because she doesn’t need armor as a magic user, her attacks from afar she’s even sewn her sleeves shut so they don’t get caught if she’s doing a spell or something

@@kevinyoung9540 he's 29 human years old! Hlaf-foots just have a way shorter life expectancy than humans (about 50 years, though there are rare cases of exceptions) so him being 29 is roughly the human or "tallman" equivalent of 50- that's why, when he transformed into a tallman, he was abut 50!
@@nataliasonia8491 @DecafisHere the human equivalent is not 50. It will be around 35. Which is more aligned to how he looked in the lastest episode. Avg lifespan for half foot is 50 and tall men is 60. 60/50 =1.2. 1.2 * 29= 34.8.
@@angelferreyra1207 that lines up with how chilchuck had children before he came of age. 16 is the coming of age for tallmen, if chilchuck was a tallman he had kids at age 15
I love this show. It’s almost certainly going to end up being my favorite of the season, and I chalk that up to two things.
First, it has a very strong cast that amounts to far more together than the sum of their parts. Each character got time to shine in their roles and even opportunities to branch out from them as new challenges are thrust their way. No one ever feels one-note, even if they’re not the deepest characters individually.
Second, the worldbuilding is among the best I’ve seen. It’s not the kind of expansive worldbuilding seen in Frieren or Made in Abyss, but one that interrogates the setting, literally bringing the dungeon to life. From magical Winogradsky columns to cleaner organisms that repair broken walls to living armor that functions like a puppeteering clam to doppelgängers that wreak havoc for our heroes, it’s consistently a joy to see these worked into the story.
The small details makes me love this show. I recently started the manga :)

Also, yes, Senshi is my favorite character in the show too. The reveal on his background solidified that.
I remember this kind of video but with Frieren lol. But for me yes, Dunmeshi and Frieren is fantasy show that we need today. Plot, world building, characterization, and their artstyle is indeed what Tolkien's fantasy vision.
Small minor detail Chilchuck is actually not 50 he is 29 but since half foots only live to around 50 they mature faster so in tall man years he is around 50.

4:33 The amount of Dungeon Meshi reviews that have used Chrono Trigger or Xenoblade music is funny. IDK if most of the time it is intentional, because Yasunori Mitsuda is the lead composer on this anime.

Marcille being half-elf is not yet known even for the party. They still think she is full blooded elf and the reveal happens way later after they defeat Thistle and meet the Canaries
While not explicitly said. The anime did reveal the race of her father in the background photographs in the nightmares episode which wasn't in the manga
i mean, if you watched every episode (i forgot which one she mentioned it in, might be the newest one) youd notice she did state she outlived one of her parents due to the difference in lifespan, as the parent was human, though that might just be me inferring snippets of info throughout watching the show
I watched anime reactors and many of them picked up on the fact, though not all.
The rule of the world is so well thought out that it truly gives cadence to any time something breaks those rules.
Marcilles spell to revive Falin was completely against the natural order, even when considering how unnatural these dungeons are they have rules and ecosystems that can be damaged.

Between the casting of the dark magic and the immediate aftermath, it’s no wonder it’s illegal, they’ve easily could’ve summoned a demon.

SEASON 2 IS REAL LETS BE PATIENT
Although I haven’t watched delicious in dungeon and freiren, in my opinion, this is how isekai should be made - a vibrant world ready to explore, with characters and their unique personality traits, while having a theme that keeps the story going, rather than the edgelord / overpowered MC trope who ends up building a harem along the way without any depth to the characters themselves, and like you said all the characters looking the same.
Hopefully isekai anime can get a big comeback with interesting stories like this rather than the long title isekais
The only anime that can come to mind is Konosuba and Re zero. Other than that I’m not sure

early isekai was more like this, but then sao came out and the market got over saturated with the genre. honestly tho i think we need to move away from isekai for a bit and get back to some classic fantasy. maybe isekai will have its own renaissance one day but it'd be nice to let another genre shine for a bit

This show is the most wholesome shit I've seen since The Great British Baking Show, that's why I love it. There's _very_ occasional flashes of gross violence or nudity, but my goodness, it's NOTHING like the vast majority of film OR manga that's produced these days. It's not filled with sex scenes, it's not dark or gritty or nihilistically existential... it's just wholesome. It's about friendship, good food, going on adventures, loyalty, and lighthearted humor. That's 90% of it! THAT'S why it's beloved, I think. Most healthy people are sick of the sex, gore, and horror-filled film industry these days. Just tell GOOD STORIES without sex, shock-factor, jump-scares, or excessive p0nographic nudity. Just. Tell. Stories.

Chilchuk is not 50 actual years old, he states that he is 29 years old, and in a different episode he acknowledges that half foots have a shorter lifespan than tallmen. At 29 he is akin to a cantankerous old tallman.

You keep saying that Chilchuck is 50 year old man. Is that true or are you saying that just for lolz? I think I've heard him saying that he's 29 in a couple of episode before. Also, did he say that he's divorced? He did say that it's been some time since he saw his wife and kids tho. I'm currently watching anime (sub) only. If what you're saying is spoiler from manga, or in dub version, just ignore me.
Hes 29 in halfling years, 29 halfling years is 50 in human age years.
Ep 22 clarifies his age. He is 29 years old, but has 3 adult daughters of marriage age, is divorced/separated from his wife due to halfling lifespan, so for all intent and purpose, he has the mental maturity and life experience of a 50 years old.

I know that people hating me for this but I’m gonna say it anyway , I love the comedy in dungeon meshi more than konosuba, well both are good but in dungeon meshi you laugh at the situations BECAUSE the character you know they WILL behave and act that way => you grow closer to the character , so from then on they have different joke , dark humor , clumsy ,…. that I cannot name it all. But in konosuba most of them are just sexual joke that Kazuma use, well sure it was funny at first but as time goes on you know it’s gonna be the same thing happen over and over which you know boring
I never really like konosuba. It’s always the same joke. Kazuma makes the stupid panty joke and it’s just so not funny

I assumed and made educated guesses on Marcille’s Lineage. Chillchuck’s past is slowly revealed in later episodes. Even though I should have put a spoiler warning, I assumed that people would quickly pick up on the details. Even the manga drops a few hints

I mean when it comes to Marcille, you can guess what her heritage is. Depending on whether you watched the dub or sub. Marcile reveals that her father passed away at an early age. Elves don’t die at a young age. I just connected the dots. Also my bad for mispronouncing those names but it really doesn’t negate what I’m saying in the video
