      Awesome Job! Quick question, can you skip the polishing and just level sand then go the the candy process and after that level sand and then polish?

      Hey @Iron Gordon i learned about a Denim compound cutting pad that can work out your 2k clear coat orange peel & imperfections without sanding, then move on to polishing,...& you know, careful on the edges.

    As an automotive painter, for an even deeper shine you could spray 3-4 coats of clear then wet sand it with 1000 spray it again and you’ll get a very deep shine, also you should buy a heavier cutting compound such as Wizard Mystic Cut (i prefer it over others because it’s water base and doesn’t leave hard residue) and then meguiars #7 or either the meguiars you’re using it will most defiently improve your quality

    okay, I am going to help you out. the job is nice, but you have to admit, it could pop a little more instead of having a milky reflection of the lights. if you want to really have a mirror finish where you can read a newspaper in the reflection, you have to use different polishing technique. First, you have to use a rubbing compound to remove all of the scratches!!! Otherwise, you are just polishing the scratches; which is what happened here. After the compound follow up with polishing compound and finally with ultra fine polish. each time using different buffing pads made for each job. Never cross contaminate. I am not writing to criticize your work, I think it is fantastic. You just need to finish the job.
    I hope this helps, BTW, I have been doing this for 35 years, I know what I am talking about.
    oh, and yeah. I like how you emphasized safety, most people don't read the can..

    • @JonnyBabyaka
      @JonnyBabyaka Před 4 lety +9

      That palm buffer isn’t anywhere near powerful enough to correct the wet sanding.
      Going to 3k then 5k and finally hitting it low speed with a foam pad and cutting compound then work your way back to polishes and a glaze with a DA will yield better results.
      That paint job is killer though!

      I liked it alot good job but he's right , when you learn to cut and buff with a automotive type setup it will take your art to the next level. I recommend practicing on your daily driver just to get a feel for it.

    PS, I love how people suggest an improvement, as if this isn't a video on how to do a quick and dirty rattle-can job. They all want to tell you how this could be improved, if you were to do a "Professional" "By the Book" "Top Notch" $2K paint job. That's NOT what this is. It's how to do a killer "At Home" job, with little-to-no "Special Tools". I just think that they should keep this in mind, prior to telling you how to do something completely different than what you have perfectly shown us. This is THEE BEST at home, cheap, totally "Work with what you've got", and be creative video that I have seen. So, again, thanks!

    • @IronGordon
      @IronGordon  Před 4 lety +12

    Okay, I'm gonna help you out. Ignore the boomers and know that what you've done here is nothing short of magic. There are a lot of young kids in my hood that wanna paint their bicycles or skateboards kandy, but of course they don't have the resources to do that. Now, I can point them in the right direction. Simple instructions and humble materials; it's perfect for those of us who love this style but are tight on money. With all that's going on right now, people need something constructive to pass the time. God bless, and thank you for the inspiration!

      yeah some of the experts have missed the DIY/budget friendly aspect of this project. could the results be show room quality if you used a $200 buffer and $40 bottles of polish? SURE of course it, can but if you want to make something shine with consumer grade supplies, its totally do-able!

    Hello; I just signed on my computer to drop you a comment and tell you how absolutely stunning your paint job on this guitar looks. I don't know how this video doesn't have 7 millions views instead. I need to repaint a vintage Japanese Les Paul I screwed up the paint on after having to move the bridge back with a neck replacement. I grew up with a dad who's a retired automotive paint & body man, so I kind of have an eye for what "perfection" looks like with people painting well... anything. These other "professional" guitar painters on CZcams I watched, some of them just don't look good, despite having the right tools & methods for professional painting. I'm just absolutely blown away at how good your guitar looks for having used only spray cans. The first video I was really impressed with, but this one took it to a whole new level. Using that fabric to create that layered effect in the beginning, it looks like a guitar a see-thru burst effect without you having used traditional methods to accomplish it. And your attention to detail on the backside, something most people ignore, taping all those intricate patterns and shapes. It's just amazing. I can't say enough good about your quality of work and guitar from this video and your other one, and also thank you for sharing your techniques for this. I left a sub and I'm going to share this video on some guitar restoration boards, people need to see this!

      People definitely tend to write off spray paint as something that is half ass. But with a little patience and practice
      Quality paint jobs can be produced.
      Good luck with your project, do you plan on striping it down?

    After activating your clear coat, if you want to get a bit more time out of it before it hardens in the can, lets say for another small project, through the can in your refrigerator till your ready to use it. It wont last weeks, but it will extend what they call the "pot life"

    The Bob Ross reference was awesome!! I'm getting ready to copper flake a project of mine but I'm not as skilled as you putting tape on. Keep kicking ass!!

      Thanks! Tape is cheap but a couple rolls and practice on some thing you don't care about first 😁

    5or 6 years ago,I painted one of my guitars using pretty much then same methods that you used on this guitar. Today the guitar shows it's age but all in all,it still looks pretty good.

    I've been wanting to repaint my drum kit but found all the spray paints available at home depot to be really bland or tacky. This spray paint is exactly what I was looking for, thanks man!

    Ok, first, I love you're keeping up with comments. Second, I use that 2k rattler clear on EVERYTHING. From preservation of patina on antiques to rc bodies to $40k car touch ups. I pay about $20 a can, so it's definitely not out of the question for the average diy projects. Love what you do.

    Killer job! Definitely mirror finish it with 800/1000/1500 (maybe even 2000 finish) to get the orange peel out, then a rubbing compound cut, machine glaze, and final hand rub paste.
