Its less about X-Drive vs. Quattro, but about the BMW driver knowing how to drive on snow controlled, while the Audi-driver tries to force it.
And tires of course are extremely relevant.

@@semicki135 your argument kinda implodes on itself... i agree with you the audi has a better 4x4 system but if you think thats all that matters feel free to explain how the bmw who manages his throttle respons up that hill and has better tyres has a much smoother and straighter ride up the hill without crashing into stuff

1. tyres matter the most, way more than how many wheels are being driven. I guarantee you that a FWD car with snow tyres is better on snow than an AWD car with summer tyres
2. quattro isn't the best at snow, Subaru's S-AWD system is superior in snow and dirt. xDrive is the best in sporty driving, both on snow and on tarmac. Quattro is a very good system, but it isn't actually the best at anything.
Also, you didn't say which quattro you're talking about, there are about 3 variants. The one in Audi's electric vehicles is the best by a good margin.

You actually have more traction on fresh snow as opposed to compacted one from the car infront, and tyre wear doesn't matter, it matters how old is the tyre

In the snow I'll put my money on Quattro over Xdrive ANY Day. It's probably the best AWD there is. I happen to own a Audi A6 4.2 and I've never had an issue in the snow, I've never had to shovel my car out either. My car has no problem plowing out of 18 inches of snow without hesitation. Quattro is designed better than other AWDs, Quattro sends torque to each individual wheel depending on the conditions, and can send up to 70% of its power to either the front or the back. So if your back tires spin out it stops sending power to that tire or tires and compensates by sending more torque to the other tires. Quattro is king

No tengo intención de beneficiar a ninguna marca pero, el audi sube cuando hay menos nieve y hay una capa de hielo lo cual dificulta un poco la subida, aún a si sube de una manera bastante solvente. El BMW sube con más nieve fresca lo cual mejora la tracción de los neumáticos de invierno y la tracción haber película de hielo. No lo veo muy bien pero el BMW parece que tiene cadenas de tela en las ruedas delanteras. Habría que mirar ese dato. Ver qué tipo de neumático llevan ... Pero para que fuera un prueba precisa habría que haberla hecho en el mis.o momento y condiciones. Con hielo la cosa es difícil para todos incluso con cadenas.

@@asandrius86 The BMW made micro adjustment to find grip along its path. The Audi used too much throttle.
Where I live we have to do a course in climbing slippery hills and the first thing they teach you is a slight movement to look for better grip.
The Audi has summer tyres on, the BMW has winter tyres on. I live in a country where we have snow 6 months of the year and you can hear a very distinctive difference trust me.

@pertturaussi9973 It doesn't, if it did there would be snow stuck in the tread. If you've ever seen a snow tyre even once in your life you'd know that. They have what's called sipes.

Both have winter tires. But there is a difference in performance between them. Here I think it was part driver skill and partly the Audi went first.
Theres a difference when you do different throttle and steering inputs and it also looks like the Audi had traction control disabled.

You‘ve clearly never driven in the snow. If you’re going uphill in the winter, it’s better to turn the traction control down because the car will keep regulating the power until you don’t have enough and stand still. What you’re saying actually benefited the Audi because it can put more power down when struggling.
@@Knofris I know. Also, I didn’t say that the Audi drove bad up that hill. I also like Audi and bmw similar. (But Audi Quattro more than bmw xdrive). For a better comparison they could have disabled traction control on the bmw.
@@redgavril I haven’t driven any (non electric) BMW AWD, so I can’t judge that. I think the BMW electric AWD works really well. Quattro feels like driving on rails, it works perfectly (with the right tires).
I just think people put too much weight on this comparison that wasn’t even under fair circumstances😂, but you’re right, it looks like they even had different electronical settings

My a4 b5 on all seasons never had this issue or any issue in the snow lol and it was a bit lowered. But good tires and a driver that knows what they doing can do that lil hill no problem
This is a BMW It's an all-wheel-drive BMW, not rear-wheel drive. If you notice, the front wheel is throwing snow. It's hard for tow cars to get out here

Let's see ... the Audi has 20" wheels (with wider treads), and probably All-Season tires. The BMW has 18" wheels (narrower treads), and snow tires.
