Feathers are stiff. Seriously go get yourself a large wing feather and wave it around. They have to hold the literal weight of the animal. Of course you want them to have SOME flex cause they would be fragile. But that doesn't mean they have to be so flexible that they will sproing about just from being rotated at not even that great a speed. It also makes it seem as if the feathers are heavy, but those strong feathers are incredibly light, so they don't have to react so much to changing direction.
