  • On this week's episode, we do a side-by-side comparison of Jason's swing breakdown from 12-months ago to see how it has changed. Watch as we review the mechanical changes that helped convert a baseball swing into a much more effective slowpitch swing.

    Best breakdown for a baseball player converting their swing to slow pitch! Exactly what I was looking for an can’t wait to implement the necessary changes to improve my OBP.

    These are probably the most helpful videos on CZcams. Most of the others are "how to improve your swing" and then it's a just a dudes HR compilation.
    You could really help a lot of amateur players (I'm talking church league baseball players) improve their game.

    Not sure how anyone could be negative about these videos. I love this, it was a huge adjustment from playing baseball and college ball and then switching to slow pitch softball full time. Keep these coming.

    Excellent video and I really enjoy the side by side comparison. I think the best advice for anyone trying to change their swing is to minimize the opportunities for errors. The change in your hand path and your use of a tee are 2 excellent examples of this

      Thanks for the comment. We thought it would be beneficial to show the journey to convert swings since many players newer to the game don't realize that adjustments are needed. We agree that minimizing excess movement has increased success by removing opportunities to make mistakes. Appreciate the feedback and let us know if you have any other tips/tricks for some of the viewers that has helped you!

      Thanks for watching! We felt it was important to share the mechanical changes many players go through when transitioning. Seeing it broken down makes it easier to understand how we can all improve.

      Hey Ian, glad you are interested. Shoot us an email with a few clips of your swing (side angle tends to be best) and we can chat. Our email is LeagueNightSoftball@gmail.com.

    Slow pitch is the only sport I've ever played. I've been playing for 34 years now, so I didn't have any of the baseball habits to break. Best advice I've ever been given back in the mid 90's from Britt Hightower was to be relaxed and smooth. I have felt for a long time that extra movement prior to the swing is wasted energy.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the comment Mark. We agree that is great advice and try to remove any unnecessary movement in our swings. We find that it creates more opportunity to be out of position when attacking the ball. Sounds like Britt passed out some great advice! Hopefully, we can hone in our swings to allow us to play for as long as you have!

    Are you doing any changes with your grip? Over 12 years of softball coming from baseball. I am doing everything you are stance and swing wise. But I added more pure power and distance to my hits by changing my grip. Pinky off the bottom hand and modified over grip on top. Faster flick and more leverage adds distance. Only thing I would add to your swing is finishing with one hand. Allows your back to not have to help slow you down. Can really help over the course of 6-7 games on a weekend. Love the video, keep them up.

      Hey Joshua, many softball players will adjust their hands when transitioning and will use a combination of hanging a pinky off the knob to overlapping their top & bottom hands. The theory is you will get better whip on the bat. It is a comfort thing so we recommend whatever feels best is what you should go with, but you might experiment off the tee to see if adjusting your grip makes any noticeable changes in your performance. Maybe we should look at doing a video on this in the future!

      @LeagueNightSoftball if you read my comment closer lol you'll see I noticed an increase in power when I changed my grip. At least that worked for me. I went from hitting HR'S 325ft to 350ft+ that said I would love to see a video of you guys trying a new grip and seeing if you see the improvement that I saw in my distance.

    Thanks this video was really helpful the way you guys broke it down!
    So before watching the video I was concerned that my hands were finishing too low on my swing (sorta like the bat wrapped around me). But it sounds like you guys are saying in slow pitch softball that okay, if your hands start high and you finish through the ball. Is that correct?

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks so much! We appreciate it!
      As compared to a baseball swing, you'll definitely keep your hands higher. The biggest key is to get your swing path either perfectly flat or even very slightly down on the ball. This will create that hard line drive ball path with a good amount of backspin.

    What’s your top 5 240 USSSA bat list? I try and get a new bat every year and i also switch up the brands so far i have the 220 Kp23, 2022 Demarani VG white, and a 2022 worth kretcher. Curious if i should look at suncoast or pure next?

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  Před rokem

      For me (Cam) I'm not sure I've swung enough bats to give a really comprehensive top 5 list but I can certainly tell you some of my favorites. LS Genesis is definitely #1 on my list. I really like the Monsta Trippin. I have yet to swing a 240 Dimarini but I would imagine I would enjoy it. I've always like Dimarini in the past. They generally have a stiffer handle and good feel off the barrel. If the new ones are similar to the 220s I would definitely swing them.

    Jason looks very stiff armed in his swings. He loops outside of the ball in most cases instead of hands straight to the ball.

      @@LeagueNightSoftball Personally, I start my swing with both hands against my back shoulder and when I stride forward try to keep them in original place (moving body forward but not hands) to get them back and connected. This leaves my back elbow tucked low and the bat flat the whole time so I don't have to reposition elbow. If notice your back elbow starts high and then tucks into the low slotted position.
