    I had carry the SOCP dagger 178S (with one real cutting edge) about 2 years. It is lightweight and comfortable to carry. And can be use as EDC fixed blade and self defense tool. I have the SOCP 176 too. But both the edge are not meant to be sharp like knife to cut since they are support edge to the point, so it suck as EDC

    • @HardOnGearChannel
      @HardOnGearChannel  Před rokem +3

      Nice! Those blades definitely don't make for good EDC knives, but since they're so light and small, it really isn't a big deal to carry another EDC knife to serve those purposes.

    SOCP in the US costs like 110$ USD. I don't think it's worth that, I think it should go like 50-80 because it's literally 440c.

      Steel quality really doesn’t matter much when talking about a knife designed for combat, assuming it’s not so bad that it’ll break. A self defense knife only has to do its job once and it has to be really sharp that one time, but after you use it you will not need it sharp again for a long time, possibly forever, there’s plenty of time to resharpen.

    940 is my favourite edc. I try to find another edc that I love as much as my 940. Just can’t find one. I also own the socp dagger. It’s fun to have not something a normal person will use often or at all. But still fun to own.

    Bench made owners never have just one haha. But I picked this up due to profile and length. Very slim. The other you showed already had a bigger sheath. I like the feel and how it would be used. Nice addition/support.
    Agreed that it’s not a edc tool for cutting or whatever

    @canadafree2087 Před rokem +1

    I agree on the SOCP edge, many daggers are too narrow to have a sharp edge anyway. But the second knife you show has no excuse! When you are making a full single edge blade knife like that, there is no reason why it should not be ground so as to have a razor edge. Our ring knife laws does not include these knives, but some police may say it does. The ring knife laws are solely for rings worn as rings with a small blade(s) made to be hidden by the hand, such blades were used by Japanese ninjas to cause more pain when they grab someone. Also, we can have a belt knife or pocket knife for sporting use, but we can not hide it under a shirt. Any Benchmade will carry a high price no matter what steel. Benchmade markets themselves as a "higher brand" than say Buck.

    As someone relatively new to knives but very interested, in more ofna tactical instance, why not put a hollow edge, would i mske it bad at stabbing? Bc lethally, laceration is still good for stuff like fhe jugular?

    … Actually, one of the spots you’d hit in the clinch is in the ribs basically a little bit underneath the armpit. Through the ribs and into the lung.

      They make one where both sides have edges and one with only one side. The one with only one edge if for people that lives in those states where you cant have a dagger.

    Those laws are retarded. I can carry a much bigger folding knife that could arguably do more damage.. but because that knife is built for actual self defense it’s illegal

    You frequently mention you want to keep political opinions out of your reviews, yet you say this “after” expressing a political opinion? Yes, you expressed the idea of obedience to knife laws in a virtue signaling manner. Previous videos contain woke culture virtue signaling as well. An example when comparing the the Bradford Guardian and Eee knife you stated you left out whether they were manufactured in ethically acceptable places followed by your desire to leave out political opinions. Just pointing out what turned me off to this channel.

    • @HardOnGearChannel
      @HardOnGearChannel  Před rokem +4

      That’s all fair and valid. I’m surprised I don’t get more critique of this nature.
      When talking about anything self-defence or knife law related, I find myself using poor humour to walk around what are considered by CZcams to be politically edgy topics in an attempt to give myself a bit of plausible deniability. I SHOULD reshoot those cringe-worthy moments on the spot, but in order to not spend every waking hour of my spare time editing, I’ve allowed for what I’ve hoped is an acceptable level of imperfection for myself until the channel can become more of a priority in my life.
      I absolutely see where you’d get that virtue signally woke vibe. It makes me fucking cringe to come to terms with it, but I get it… I do have to edit my own content, after all. I don’t always catch the contradictions like the one you cited, so criticism like this are the only way I’m going to be able to improve on it.
      I currently keep myself anonymous in regards to this channel, HOWEVER, I’m still a government employee and I’m super limited in which personal opinions I can openly express. I personally do not morally or ethically agree with this, but I’m still going to play the game for a while…
      If I’m too open or direct about some edgy topic and someone wants to connect me to the channel, that’s leverage people could have against me if they want it.
      Hopefully this doesn’t come across as excuses or more virtue signalling. I just genuinely appreciate the comment and if you care to read this, just want you to know that I totally hear your concerns and am always looking to become less of an idiot.

      @@HardOnGearChannel Greatly appreciate your candid and sincere response to my unsolicited critique of your review. I don’t often reply in this manner, but I consider knife collecting as a hobby, and watch reviews for ideas on other purchases. Political correctness is not fun, nor is it what I am looking for, just opinions on knives, knife steels and the like. I am a volunteer firefighter and find a multitool useful or a knife from time to time, so like to keep up on new products. I am close to retirement (older) and hate how the younger generation is indoctrinated into political correctness and fed all sorts of crap that is spawned by liberal activist teachers, the media and now armed forces. So thank you, but no thanks in my recreational CZcams knife review channels, etc.

    At $80 I'd rather substitute that stupid trainer with socp 179.

    • @HardOnGearChannel
      @HardOnGearChannel  Před rokem +1

      Opinions vary. I see a lot of value in a trainer, especially with a knife this unique. The value of spending time on the mats and/or knife grappling/training with buddies can’t be understated.
      Having an exact trainer of the knife (I assume) you might be carrying for self-defence seems like it’s worth some money. Unfortunately to make it from quality steel and to have it precisely balanced and shaped probably costs money… plus, it’s Benchmade, so $$$ 🤷‍♂️.
      $80 is a bit steep, but I think it’d be kinda worth it for me.
