    In short, the old set was the first portion of the chase scene, where Indy and Henry Sr use the biplane to escape (only for it to be accidentally destroyed by the latter), while the new set is second portion of the scene, where they take the car and go through the tunnel (and the third portion to an extent, where Henry Sr uses his umbrella to scare some birds into making the second fighter crash).

    I like the new plane Lego did, sure its not accurate, but it looks far more pleasing to the eye to look at. The new canopy is cool too, and with some custom mods and extra parts, you could make a pretty accurate model of the plane.

      Back then, yes they did. That’s one of the reasons their Pirates & Western lines exist, British troops & firearms included. But nowadays, not so much. Like the closest we’ve got to that nowadays are the sci-fi themes, which is widely considered fine for the company & most cultures due to them using lasers for the most part, and the cops & robber themed sets in the City line, but they don’t like including realistic weapons in them. They literally canceled a set centered around a dynamite factory & a Technic set that’s basically a military aircraft a bit ago due to their changing policies.

    • @LudwigPaiste28
      @LudwigPaiste28 Před 24 dny +5

      Laser guns are equivalent to a military vehicle? Lego never made one fighter jet or tank. We always had to make our own.
      That little fruit who works at Lego from ‘The Toys That Made Us’ said they changed the castles from gray to yellow because they didn’t want kids building military things.
      Also, a”a real Lego maniac”?So I’ll assume you’re also a member of the fan police? 🙄
      If Anyone from Lego is reading this, Breaking News!: everything we built was some sort of fighter jet or tank or military vehicle or spaceship bristling with weapons. Also, the people you advertise to and put in your ads don’t buy Legos. Give it a rest already.

  • @jacksprofessionalproductio9403

    Love the aircraft history there Michael.
    I know a few inaccuracies in the Indiana Jones films;
    In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indy carries a Browning Hi-Power which was barely a 1 year old Russian gun in 1936 and probably would’ve been tough for a private citizen to acquire. He uses this because he was supposed to use a Colt .45 but the production couldn’t get 45 ACP blanks.
    Also the Nazis and other bad guys use MP40s and Walther P38s which didn’t exist in 1936.
    In Dial of Destiney, the steam engine that’s hauling the artifacts at the beginning is a British 9F which didn’t exist until 1954, this engine is supposed to be a German class of steam engine called Merlin. Which at a glance the 9F does look like a Merlin, but there are still fully functional Merlin tender engines out there, so why didn’t they make an effort to get one? Oh wait consume product don’t ask questions (their strategy)

    • @C.JuniorsMagic

    This is an interesting point you bring up. See, I was an avid collector of the _Lego Batman Movie_ vehicle sets, which were the absolute peak - in my opinion - for assembly, functionality and overall aesthetic. Truly top notch Lego.
    However, not long after that line ran its course, I felt something... _changed._
    I don't know what happened, but I can't help feeling a switch in the design ethos for Lego post-2017, because the quality of builds felt quite downgraded and simplistic compared to before. That being said, there's plenty of good stuff available and I don't mind certain things being more *compact.* I actually plan to grab the Fighter Plane set while I still can, but I do see where you're coming from in terms of accuracy.

    As far as real-world military rep in official sets, Lego has two major exceptions. The first seems to be historical representations. Most obviously seen in the Knights, Samurai, and Ninjas seen in Castle, the various Navys seen in Pirates, and the U.S. military seen in the Wild West sets. Then licensed sets such as the Russians and Germans in Indiana Jones, WWII G.I.s done in the classic green army men style for Toy Story, and the updated U.S. troops seen in the Lone Ranger sets. It seems to be a rule regarding modern military, and not military in general, as seen in the controversies regarding the Osprey set. Just one of those weird rules which have gone in and out of fashion as the company has existed.

    Indiana Jones is not a high selling brand. No matter the company there’s always too much overstock at the end. Lego, especially at that time of design was becoming much more conservative. Even before that they had been hedging bets on questionable brands, like Scooby Doo, and they did many more Doo sets. With rising inflation the PPP ratios were and are getting worse and worse. These Jones sets are more like bases to start from that completed sets. Which is sad for a lot of reasons. I was disappointed with the chase set because it was too expensive and the plane is just not great. If they had just released the car and two figures alone I would have been happier because even though I have no villain I’d at least have a low cost to get Indy and dad. These sets are basically travesties and also likely the last we’ll ever see. It’s a shame the franchise went out on such a whimper in Lego form. At least with Hasbro I felt like I got most of the important characters, even though the line is severely lacking in numerous areas.

    As usual, after struggling and kicking around this topic forever here comes Retroblasting perfectly articulating those thoughts
    The Pilatus P2 that the german fighter is built off of is an interesting, well documented and easily accessible craft. Why LEGO cant seem to bring its own iconic shape into the set, even at a small scale makes no sense to me. Also, i think they are okay depicting that plane is because the Pilatus is a trainer, and their own website refers to all their planes as sstunt trainers. Still doesnt explain all of their other hypocrissies buuut
    Ultimately, though i love LEGO, the only way to get what you want is to buy the parts and build your own model

    Ah the indiana jones trilogy....its too bad the bad decisions by Lucas and Spielburg limited the franchise to 3 movies instead of making it a serial like Bond. Oh well its one of my favorite movie trilogy ever that I love to share with my dad and brothers. And the Last Crusade was a great way to END a franchise.
