    Got for my kids Re-kanken. They have been using it for 3 years and still look good. At the end of each year, I just tossed them in the washing machine and it looks all clean and good to go. I like the fact that the kanken bag doesnt make my kids looks like carrying/ having turtle shell on their back.

    Never heard of the donut macaroon until this video. It’s really nice! Might have to put it on my short list of bags to try out.

      They are a brand out of Hong Kong and have some interesting designs. Worth checking out!

    I own a macaroon and a kånken backpack. Even though the macaroon is more padded, I still prefer the kånken. The macaroon, though more practical for those want to carry 3x more than normal, is much heavier and its material isn't as durable; the kånken backpack, though little to almost no pockets (the new version has one zipped inside), is lightweight, can withstand years of use regardless of weight, and for those of us who experience back pain it is as light as a feather even when packed. Never trust someone who claims a kånken (or any fjallraven bag) isn't durable; if bought in sweden or from their official site, you will be able to use it for YEARS. I don't know about the other brands, but the kanken in my opinion has worked perfect for my needs. The macaroon worked better for university, but it was definitely heavier and at times uncomfortable.

      Great insight! One area where Fjallraven dominates is their quality. Their backpacks are all built to last!

      @@Backpackies Not a very fair comparison between Kanken and Doughnut. The umbrella fits in both backpacks. And bottle you can put it in both backpacks in the same way. The pocket inside for a bottle does not make any sense, as for me. Sometimes my shoulders get really tired from thin straps, so I bought shoulder pads. And if I need pockets, then I bought an organizer from Kanken. I have a Doughnut backpack large, I use it for travel. Apart from the pockets on the front panel, these backpacks are almost identical. Except that they are made from different materials. Therefore, I think that design plays a major role here.

      @BrightHopeAndOurPride Both brands offer a range of backpacks for every need. If the square design isn't to your liking, you can choose a different model. The kånken was designed with school children in mind to prevent back pain; it works perfectly for that. It's not meant to be used in the same way you'd use a 24l tactical backpack, for example. The Hong Kong brand did take the idea from fjällräven and put their own "twist" to make it with westerners in mind, so yes, it is a fair comparison considering which came first and how it's now labeled as an alternative.

      @@myrkvdr but the price point is not worth the lacks of the kanken, unlike the doughnut

      A kanken might be "durable" but it quickly looks like its decades old and you can't properly cleant it without ruining the bag lol

    I mean, you can get most of these features in a Kanken Laptop version in 13" 15" and 17" sizes... none of these are enough of an upgrade to bother with.

    • @Backpackies
      @Backpackies  Před rokem +3

      Sure! The Kanken Laptop versions have padded shoulder straps and a laptop pocket. But we do think these bags have more pockets and more comfortable straps in general. When you compare the prices, these may be a better value for some people.

      And she was trying to give people an option that is more affordable and trust me not everybody wants a trendy bag that's not waterproof like I live in the PNW and a kanken will get ruined in one rainy season geez
