  • Ah yes, Fjällräven, or Fjallraven if you are lazy and not Swedish. Similarly the Kånken (or the Kanken, again if you are lazy and not Swedish). I am not lazy but also now Swedish, but I type all the dots out. Anyways LETS CHAT!
Ever heard of Instagram? Well me too let us party. @8thWeekday
So Fjallraven introduced a new Kanken backpack. This one is much more eco-friendly (they put tree in the name) BUT the question is does it hold up? Is it one of the best backpacks under $100? No. It's more than that. Best backpack under $150? Quite possibly, depending on your needs! The Fjallraven Tree-Kanken is interesting for many reasons, one, how it's made, two, how waterproof or water resistant it is (it's waxed cotton / canvas but without the cotton / canvas).
Today I went on a hike with this little backpack and also walked through Hurricane Ida unbeknown to me. How did it hold up! How waterproof is it! How eco friendly and sustainable is the backpack? Find out!

As a swede I find it really funny that the Kånken has become somewhat of a fashion item meanwhile here in Sweden it's always just been the standard sturdy backpack that everyone had as a kid or inherited by their parents

I didn't even realise that re-waxing is an option. Multiple product lines exist (wax sticks are a whole thing) and that you should be re-waxing relatively frequently. You're right, it's a good all rounder bag, it's not for anything specific, which is actually what makes it so good. Also it fits a crazy amount of stuff and is a perfect flight bag for under the seat. It's an every day bag or an 'i need a bag for a picnic' bag, or a 'i need an overnight bag for a flight bag'. It's superb for all those things....just not for hiking (buy one second hand and enjoy! They can be revived and re proofed....they live forever. I wouldn't buy new)

It happened to me once when I was terribly late for work b.c. my alarm didn’t go off. But then later thru the day, when the faded memory started to come back, I realized that it actually did, and what I did was that I briefly woke up and turned off the alarm. I was so so sleepy in that brief moment that what happened was neither completely conscious nor left me any memory when I finally wake up for good. Hence the “My alarm didn’t go off!” What I didn’t since is that I would leave my phone always a good distance away from my bed so that I’ll have to really get up and turn it off, from which the action would sufficiently wake me up also. :)

I got spilled tea inside the bag and even though of course it filtered, I was awed by how the liquid was still floating inside the bag, which means that it didnt filtered thoroughly, which means that for a tiny spray or small rain, it will totally be fine!
