I think back then it was just not acceptable to try to promote a fight that way. Ali is often blamed for that, but as he said at the time, he was mostly trying to promote the fights that he was in. Also there was an incident back then between Billy Conn and and Italian American boxer were ethnic insults were caught on a mike. Earlier of course we have matches Jack Johnson were racial slurs were hurled at him by the boxers he fought, and of course Harry Greb. There is even a story that after Greb's fight with Mickey Walker, they had a fight in the streets. Sugar Ray Robinson and Carment Bassilio hated each other. The thing today which is totally wrong is when they have tehse weigh ins, or press conferences, adn tehinsults start their. I blame this on the promoters.

I have a wall in my house dedicated to all the old great fighters of the past, Tommy Farr was shockingly cheap, only fighter I haven’t got is Jim Driscoll. It’s pronounced TON E PANDY and the marks on his back were blue lines where he’d scratched his back and the coal had tattooed marks on him which he told Louis “they were from his sparring partners who are animals!”

Im originally from Scotland, living in Canada now, but i share a last name with this fellah... he was some kind of distant cousin to my Grandfather and Dad... my Grandfathers name was Tommy Farr(1900) as well, and my Dad was Mike(1933), (amazing family resemblance to Dad and myself, very very close)... they were from Larkhall, (a village just outside of Glasgow), and still lotsa Farrs in Larkhall and surrounding area... i think he woulda beat Joe if he hadn't broken his hand on Joes head/face in the first few rounds IMO... wasn't he the only one to go 12 rounds with Joe and not get knocked out?... very kool!!
