12 Biggest Changes In Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

- With the recent release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on the Nintendo Switch, we’ve rounded up all the biggest and smallest changes we could find between the new HD remaster and the Wii original.
After Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD changed a few things from their original releases, it was safe to assume Nintendo would do the same with the announcement of Skyward Sword HD in the February 2021 Nintendo Direct. But what exactly was changed? Well, we played both games to 100% completion and put them side by side to try and spot as many differences as we could, big and small.
Some of these changes include button controls for the entire game, brand-new camera controls, a new autosave system, character names added to text boxes, amiibo functionality, and a bunch of others, but you’ll have to watch the video to see everything. So stop reading this description and go do that if you haven’t already.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is now available for the Nintendo Switch. Alongside the game, Nintendo released a pair of Joy-Con controllers themed after the Master Sword and Hylian Shield, and a Zelda & Loftwing amiibo figure. If you’re looking for more Skyward Sword HD videos, we’ve got you covered here on GameSpot:

Hey everyone! Since a lot of you asked, here are all the Fi changes I noticed (not including the 5 pointed out in the video):
SPOILERS BELOW
1. When you're saving the 3 Kikwi Fi only pops out after you save the last one, when originally Fi spoke after each one you saved and said there were still more (of course).
2. In the original game once you complete the Earth Temple and get the Amber Tablet Fi will recap that Zelda is heading to Lanayru and you should place the tablet in the statue in Skyloft to create a new column of light. The has been removed from HD.
3. When activating the power nodes to unlock the Lanayru Mining Facility Fi says that you can "restore this device to an operable state by inserting a source of energy" referring to the Ampilus eggs you can slot in the foot switch to open the gates. This has become optional dialogue instead of mandatory.
4. When you get near the boss door in the Lanayru Mining Facility Fi says that there's a great door that is locked tight and that "It is only logical that something of great importance likely rests behind this door" and this dialogue has been removed from HD.
5. After you defeat the Imprisoned for the first time Fi will tell you that they "calculate an 85% probability that someone associated with the academy will be able to provide additional information about [The Ballad of the Goddess]." This is now optional dialogue instead of mandatory in HD.
6. When you first see the boss door in the Ancient Cistern Fi will tell you that, "I have taken the liberty to confirm that a door is located at the uppermost section of this statue. The lock is unfamiliar to me." This dialogue has been removed from HD.
7. After the cinematic showing you the boss key chest in the Ancient Cistern Fi would pop out to tell you there is a large chest in the area and there's an 85% probability it contains the boss key. This dialogue has been removed from HD.
8. When you get the Squid Carving on the Sandship Fi would originally pop out to basically confirm that it's the boss key and where to use it. This dialogue has been removed from HD.
9. Before entering the Fire Sanctuary, after Gorko says you'll need a big container to hold the water needed to put out the flames guarding the entrance, Fi pops out to say there's no water in the immediate vicinity and that you will need a large basin and water to proceed. This dialogue is now optional in HD.
10. To find said large basin you'll need to ask the Water Dragon for the one they were using earlier. When you engage with it Fi will pop out to say there's a large amount of water in the basin and it has an 85% probability of putting out the flames that block the Fire Sanctuary, and then Fi will ask you to attempt to borrow it. This dialogue has been removed from HD.
Now you might notice there are only 10 on this list and 5 in the video, but I said I had 17 total. There are 2 instances that, when looking back, were both optional in the original and in HD when I thought they were mandatory in original and optional HD so there are only 15 instances I truly noticed and not 17.
Any I missed? Comment below and let us know!
#10 dialogue was removed? When I played today I’m pretty sure she said that when I interacted with the basin but idk
Fi should have been removed altogether. We only thought Navi was bad. We were so wrong.
A minor change I happen to notice is that when bokonlins walk across the tightropes and they get hit or shook off they explode before they fall down unlike in the original. It still plays the same yell sound though for some reason
@@CaptainGibbons she wasn't even bad
@@CaptainGibbons I haven’t played the Wii version for a while but I didn’t remember minding Fi so much. Yes, the number of instances where she’d pop up and point out something _blatantly_ obvious was aggravating but you have to remember that this may be some people’s (or little kid’s) first time playing a Zelda game and they may need the help with less obvious things
One difference I noticed is that Luv and Bertie's baby at the potion shop had its near-constant crying removed. A merciful change.
Early game the baby didn't cry much originally either. It's not until the baby's pacifier goes missing that I really noticed how much they cried. Weirdly i kind of miss it.
Good catch!
I honestly find it more natural with the baby crying.
@@ShadowSkyX I miss it too, I always thought it was funny how the dad tried to quiet the baby, and how the mom vocalized as she was clapping
@@FearfulFellow Wait, it's gone?
I can tell you FI in fact does not pop up every time you find a kikwi in faron woods, only the first one you encounter and the very last one telling you, that you found the last one. Major improvement
minor *
@@Phantron MAJOR
but but that first kikwi encounter where Fi concludes that the kikwi is not Zelda was one of the most hilarious bits of Fi dialogue!
This is true. I almost want it to have stuck.
There was always that 5% in the back of fis mind that zelda somehow became a kikwi
@@ruchick6155 I mean stranger things have happened in the franchise.
Agreed, it made me audibly laugh as a kid, sad they took it out
A lot of Fi's dialogue in general was actually really funny if you read it as dry sarcasm. I understand why they removed a bunch of her dialogue, because it genuinely did start to get pretty intrusive, but it's still a bit of a shame
I played the original version on the WII, and I NEVER knew that it was supposed to be raining inside of the thunderhead.
The biggest change for me is learning that she's supposed to be called "Fye" when I've been saying "Fee" for about 10 years. lol
Same!
Same haha!
I think it’s actually still fee
I’m still calling her fee idc lol
She's spelled "Phai" in German. So they actually made it easy for you americans by spelling her "Fi" and you still got it wrong. Its aggrivating.
5:20 fun fact speedrunners are actually not happy about this as that save prompt created a frame window where link could sidehop or backflip out of the trigger for a cutscene right after. In the original game. The entire loftwing ceremony could be skipped this way
Fascinating! I was not aware of this. Thanks for letting us know!
@@wholelottastairway8 Nah it just changed it so that they have to watch a crappy unskippable cutscene lol. Even when skipped, the Wing Ceremony gameplay still had to be done, you just didn't have to watch Zelda and Groose go through their whole thing. Gameplay is totally unchanged with this difference, but we get an extra 2 minutes or so of mashing A+B. :(
@@wholelottastairway8 And they weren't actually speedrunning before, how exactly? Something other than being full of yourself in your opinions at the very least.
I was actually like “I don’t know how, but I’m almost sure that removing the save prompt will make it so that it takes even longer somehow”. Interesting to see I was right, lol.
Actually I know the names of the guys sitting in the bazaar because if you target a character and press the button to talk to Fi she’ll tell you about that character. Fi will also tell you about the enemies!
I was not aware that Fi did this for characters, I thought it was just for enemies. Thanks for letting us know!
Locks onto bokoblin:
Fi: "This is Bob, he used to work at The Lumpy Pumkin, but got fired due to excessive shouting at customers and cutting the pumkins wrong. He later took on the life as a bokoblin, in search of a new life. Bob is sweet, charismatic and a little goofy, Bob also like long walks near the Lanayru Sand Sea..."
I thought this was going to be an incredibly clever segue into talking about changes to Fi :(
@@evanlanger98 Your Welcome!
I remember trying to get Fi to tell me how to defeat the enemies. But she wouldn't until I killed a certain amount which ruined the whole point of it.
The game files used to be colored feathers 😭💔
17:00 honestly when I played the original I never even knew it was raining in the thunderhead I couldn’t see it at all. That’s a really noticeable difference
I’ve played the original game a lot and I didn’t notice either
Same
i never noticed it either
Wow I never knew it was raining either
I didn’t know either
Just being able to skip dialog has literally halved the length of this game.
I was wondering why I was going faster this time around LOL
It used to take me about 2 hours to get through the skyloft prologue. Took me 30 minutes this time around
literally i wanted to get hero mode done as fast as possible so i skipped every dialogue and cutscene when i could and got the game down in just under 22 1/4 hours when my first save while going through everything was 30 hours
@@jellorobot not to brag but I beat it in 14 hours to get to hero mode
@@jellorobot is hero mode worth doing
12:33 there is one thing that i found out while playing, while if you pick up the gratitude crystals by yourself the text appears each time, but if you pick it up with the beetle it skips the text
nice!
I really like how they don't show their name in a text box until you know them. It is something i always wished was in Fallout, some dialogue options in fallout say "who are you" and it felt weird to ask when you already know their name by default.
The hd credits having different camera angles than the original is because the original credits were a pre recorded cutscene which had an aspect ratio of I think 480p, pretty interesting stuff.
It isn't the aspect ratio, it's the resolution you are thinking of
I love your profile picture!
That was a little funny to me. ZeldaMaster: throws bomb. Fi: “You blew up a bomb. Goodbye.”
You can actually see Link’s mouth moving when he speaks in the beginning of the game
I would honestly really like to see a comparison video of all the times Fi interrupts you in the original vs how how many times she does it in the Switch version. I think some people might have forgotten bis how annoying Fi was in the original!
It’s honestly not as much as you’d think, but I’ve seen some comments asking for the full list so I’m compiling that now and will post it in the comments soon.
Pepperidge Farm remembers. (As do I. She was worse than Navi and Tatl combined into a single being and put on an IV drip of straight espresso.)
She's not as bad as navi
@@daylinhesford3116 Navi has like, 3 instances of forced dialog. That's it. The rest is optional and the "hey!"s are not that bad.
Fi pops out to explain the absolute most obvious shit over and over again and it's almost all mandatory, slow-crawling dialog. Much, much worse.
@@CaptainGibbons but remember how Navi would tell you press a to open a door 😒
Great video but a little error at 11:18, it's the 3rd Zelda game to run at 60FPS as the Link's Awakening remake also did, granted it struggles with it unlike Skyward Sword, but still.
You are correct, and I didn’t include Link’s Awakening because of the issues you pointed but, but you’re also right that it’s still worth mentioning so thank you for letting us know!
Another error at 15:52, you actually didn’t have to do sword practice either on the wii version, he just tells you to and you can immediately leave. So there’s no change there
Link’s Awakening was weird.
They aimed for 60 but has aggressive v sync… making the experience worse than even 30fps lock.
I can’t believe links awakening HD is still version 1.0.1. It’s been over a year and they’ve done nothing about the framerate. Meanwhile SSHD runs like a dream with no dips at launch.
@@PassTheSnails Same goes for Age Of Calamity, DLC coming out soon and I'm still forced to play it at 10 frames per second.
I still want a Fi amiibo!
THIS!!!!! She deserves one!!
Yes!
They really should just make a Link companion Amiibo set with Navi, a new Midna, and Fi.
Yes

This would have more likes if Breath Of The Wild fans played any other Zelda games. lol
@@idontwanttoturnintoanahole5169 it really would lmfao. Also, it would have more if I said "ben drowned" instead of "Elegy of Emptiness statue"
I do miss the old look of the save slots though. I like the big colorful feathers used for the save slots.
Remember how this game wasn't well-liked when it was released? Now that the nostalgia is setting in I'm sure popular opinion has changed
People always complain when it’s popular to.
They're still complaining! lol
It's still bad
Always had more of an issue with twilight princess really. Motion controlls that didnt work very well, grey af everywhere, empty as hell open world. The dungeons and cities/towns where good tho
@@HOWEZY4769 Motion controls in Twilight Princess were fine, wym?🤨 At least on the TP Wii version. Honestly if you had trouble with them on TP, you probably had trouble with them in other games like Wii Sports
I was wondering if the missing guidance stone at the beginning was just me, but I'm glad to see someone mention it! I tried googling it within like two days of the release and couldn't find a mention of it. Glad to see this video now :)
Nintendo in 2027: Releases Zelda BOTW UHD Remaster for the Nintendo Switch 3.0
Edit: added 60fps support
I hope by then people realise how poor that game's story is. It's just a glorified Zelda sandbox
@@Sequelaboy7 No one plays botw for the story. There is no story really. It is just flashbacks. The game is amazing because it is this expansive sandbox with so many different ways to get to your objectives.
@@Sequelaboy7 Everybody already knows it's lacking in narrative, even more impressive that it succeeded with basically gameplay alone.
Where do I pre-order?
Won’t we be streaming games by 2027? Straight from Nintendo servers. That way your handheld will just need decent sticks, buttons, screen and battery. 4K or 8K at home I forgot to add.
Excellent video, I really enjoyed it. The game definitely looks much more changed than I'd anticipated. Now, I'm afraid I'll be "that guy" and point out the fact that in the original, the sword instructor didn't force you to do sword practice either, even if he did stop you to suggest you do. Besides that, everything else was great.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Also it’s cool to be that guy as long as you’re not mean about it. I made this video rather quick to get it up ASAP since the game is already out, so I appreciate people pointing out things I missed or potentially got wrong!
Made my way into the second dungeon and so far I'm not having that many troubles at all.
I preordered Skyward Sword for the Wii and got the version that had the Zelda-themed built-in motion plus remote (still have it) and had a flawless experience with it regarding motion controls. I couldn't understand why people hated it so much as swinging the sword around, being in control, was the real high point and made you feel badass and truly in the shoes of Link. I hope this version gives people who had a bad time with it the experience I had so many moons ago.
Having played every Zelda, I think SS has the best Dungeons and remember how incredibly fun they were. Groose is my homeboy.
Exactly the same! It was precise and fun
Did you not notice having to hit Y all the time when pulling out something like the sling shot or bow & arrow? I didn't mind the sword controls either but if I had one critique about the HD port, this aspect actually seemed to get worse with this version. No sensor bar to silently keep it centered so now you either have to religously keep the joycon aligned towards the screen the exact same way every time or you have to hit Y all the time. I sometimes forget to hit Y and end up with a cursor that's way off to the side and causes my character to turn away from what I'm aiming at. It's really irritating. They should have handled this automatically like Breath of the Wild does. Just use what ever orientation the joycon had when the item was activated as the center point. It's a easy coding mistake it seems like.
It seems like they did with this the sword/beetle? because I never noticed that being wildly out of calibration so the core mechanic of the game is better at least. But damn is it annoying using the motion controlled items now. :(
Because people is bad playing with motion controls. The same thing happened with Star Fox Zero.
same over here! i only found out people didn’t like this game when they announced the switch port because i played it on release and loved every second of it
I don’t know if it’s me… but I remember the wii motion plus being MUCH more easier to use than the Gyro on the switch. Just seemed more responsive.
Yeah, even in galaxy HD, it is cumbersome to use the motion control to spin attack. That seems effortless in the wii version.
The Sensor Bar really helped on the Wii. Skyward Sword silently recalibrated the Wiimote's gyro based on it...
Yeah the issue is Nintendo seemed to keep some of the Wii like behavior on how calibration is handled. With modern Switch games like Breath of the Wild, it calibrates to center the position of your joycon when you use an item that needs it. Not sure how other games do things but in Breath of the Wild I recall it used what ever orientation the JoyCon was at as the center point anytime you pulled a bow or used a rune. Joy Con gyro controls are better...when used properly like it is in Breath of the Wild.
But with Skyward Sword...they got lazy. They just retained the original code but removed the sensor bar related stuff. So now it just retains that s**ty hit Y to recenter scheme that the original had. The sword/bug net motion controls seems about the same so it looks like they at least put work into translating Switch gyro to that. But they definitely didn't with motion controlled items like the bow & arrow, sling shot, and beetle (when you are aiming it. Not while flying it. Flying it seems fine).
Almost always have to use Y to recenter when pulling these items out because otherwise the cursor ends up way off to the side somewhere and causes the character to turn away from the enemy it was originally aiming at (if an enemy was being targeted when the item was used). It's the one thing that's really disappointed me with this game. It seems so easy to just re-center automatically when you pull out a motion controlled item. I don't understand how they missed this...
I noticed it when I started using the bug net last night. Seemed a bit harder than I remembered it on wii
i don’t have a switch so i don’t know about the gyro but i played SS on release and never had a single problem with the motion plus so for the longest time i had no idea people didn’t like the original game for the controls lol really some people went as far as calling it an unplayable mess when i remember it being extra smooth and fun to play
Most biggest change is for speedrunners; ''back in time'' is dead!
lol its not like anyone understood it anyway apart from said speedrunners
i hate how nintendo remove glitches in games that do nothing but make make that game better like back in time or the moon cave skip in smo
@@fugglepik9763 while it is sad, it has to happen. they were not intended to be in the game and because of that it had to be removed
@@fugglepik9763 they didn't intentionally remove it. It is gone because the switch doesn't have a reset button. Same with Twilight Princess HD
@@PokeMario-pk4ot oh haha lol im dumb that is true but they do remove glitches in other games
Personally I bet they removed the sheika stones, because they couldn’t bother to upscale the hint cutscenes.
Orr they wouldn't just hint but blatantly show you the answer/how to do it. That's doing your homework, not giving hints. They meant well with hand-holding the non gamers, but It was excessive and I'm glad they scaled back.
It also took a lot of storage space
Exactly what I was thinking too.
And absolutely no one will miss it.
@@ShadowSkyX I'm not commenting on the stones' quality.
I'm commenting on Nintendo's will and resource designation for releasing this Switch version.
I'm calling Nintendo lazy, ok?
Wait, it was raining inside the thunderhead?
Haha, I know right!
Well, it is a thunderhead. But yeah i never noticed either
The biggest change about Skyward Sword HD is the price. It went up $1 for every year since its original release haha.
Didn't stop this Zelda fan from pre-ordering it though 😔
Bought it at Walmart for $50 🤷
Like the dollar going up since the original release ; )
No at walmart it's 50 same price 10 years ago
u know inflation exists right?
It's great to see the hot demon lord Ghirahim in HD!
Ghirahim was the main reason I brought the game tbh
Ghirahim is one of my fave villains ever
I love Ghirahim as well, but I definitely don't admire him like y'all, lol! My favorite Zelda villain, hands down.
I really appreciate how the skyward sword characters have lips, it just gives their faces so much more expression
Another small change is they don't have 25th anniversary highlighted when it's mentioned by the instructor
Dude... I legit didn't know (or rember ever knowing) that the thunder dome was supposed to have rain in it lol.
The one thing I don’t like is how flat the hearts look now, they used to look more shiny but now they mostly look like one color.
Yeah I agree, I prefer the design of the hearts I’m the original
okay good, i’m glad i’m not the only one
I prefer them being less shiny because now I don't mistake them rupees.
Uhhhh… so you mistaken the hearts at the top left of the screen as rupees…. Huh, well thats a new reason I’ve never heard before.
I agree, they looked colourful and vibrant before now the hearts look like they are one dull colour and flat......not sure why they'd change that to look worse
Hopefully, they remembered to correct the game-ending glitch during the “Song of the Hero” quest like they did with the “Twilight Princess” game-ending glitch at Eldin Bridge in the HD Wii U version. I can only imagine the pain of that Goron not appearing in Faron Woods if you completed the Lanayru Desert part first after many hours of work.
Seems as though it is fixed!
They did. I actually went to Lanayru first and then talked to Golo and everything still went smoothly.
They actually fixed it in the original version, you just had to download the patch...
Wish I knew about that before I reset the game, lol.
@@optillian4182 That’s good to hear. I did intentionally try to activate the Eldin Bridge glitch in “Twilight Princess HD” on the Wii U, and noticed they fixed that one, too.
@@whichcache2517 That must’ve been excruciating. I never did Lanayru first in any of my run-throughs until recently in the Wii version. I only knew of the glitch because Nintendo put it on the Wii Marketplace, so I downloaded it just in case (years ago).
6:06 you could find out the names of those characters in the original using Fi's information when Z-targetting. The characters you couldn't do this on were the bird riders that save you when you fall off Skyloft, now we know their names in the HD version.
I feel like if you played BOTW now with a Skyward Sword HD save file on the switch, it BOTW should give you something like an outfit or at least a weapon related to the game.
BotW is an old game. I don't think they're still thinking about making new content for it, especially with the sequel coming out relatively soon.
@@Novarcharesk You can already get the goddess sword and outfit of the sky in botw from the skyward sword version link amiibo
Only thing that game needs it's the missing heart pieces
Hyrule Warriors AOC would be be more likely to get that...or BOTW2.
I was surprised we didn't get a Spirit Reward in SSBU tho TBH.

Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it
@@evanlanger98 Great job man
@@notsocooldude7720 Thank you!
I was going CRAZY looking for that Sheikah Stone, because it was there when I played the original game. Wonder why they removed it.
I've seen 1:1, controlled comparisons between the Wii and HD versions, and I can safely say that HD has a slightly wider field of view. It's just a bit different, like 5 degrees of difference or so. But it is a difference being overlooked.
Great analysis! Thanks for uploading!
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Great video guys, I am watching this as I play through the tedious beginning for the third time in 10 years, but the first time in HD 😉
Glad you liked the video!
so glad they did this. this game is literally my most memorable childhood game
Never played it, but now i might pick it up.
Ocarina of time was way better. They need another OOT style game- dark, but also good heroic story, a lot of big and epic temples, linear quest but lots of side quests and collectibles and Easter eggs
@@charlesg7926 He grew up with the Wii. I like oot more but opinions are subjective, so don't be a toxic fan
@@charlesg7926 I think it depends on your age, I grew up with twilight Princess being the first game I ever played, I prefer the happy of skyward sword more than the dark of twilight Princess
@@kaliwatson3948 Exactly. While I don't have a preference when it comes to dark or light-hearted, I played oot first, so it is my second favourite (behind Majora's mask)
I prefer playing the game with motion controls overall. I wish I could just choose button controls for specific things like flying the loft wing. I hate motion control with the loft wing, so I’ll pause it and swap controls just to fly it, then swap back when I land
Same here. Flying with motion controls is almost impossible.
i kinda switch between the two, maybe its just me but the but the button controls seems a bit slow at times and that becomes a problem when it comes to the Ghirahim fights.
@@pforgottonsoul i can imagine how those fights go with button controls. Seems a lot harder than with motion.
This this this. I would LOVE if we could customize to do just sword/shield with motion controls and everything else with buttons.

In the original game, in the first kind of mission where you rescue the little cat, you could throw it over the edge and Horwell (The teacher) would scold you. Now he says "You didnt learn anything" and its the only important change they did.
I’ve been loving the game so far! I just got the whip. So much nostalgia. The first time I played this was my freshman year in college. Can’t believe it’s been 10 years haha
Some of the polygons were changed. You can see this at the end of Link’s shirt sleeve… it seems more circular rather than like a pentagon or something like that. This same thing has been applied to multiple shapes and character models
I wouldn't be so sure, you'd be surprised by how much smoother you can make things look with shading tricks. Although granted I haven't actually looked at what you're talking about, but it's something to look out for when you think the model's been altered.
if they did increase polygon counts, great, but it looks like there's plenty of room for improvement =\
I personally love skyward sword. Such a classic tale of a heroes journey, that tried and true formula. PLUS the tried and true zelda formula. Beautiful art style, nice humor and gameplay mechanics. And great dungeons. Can’t go wrong with this game
mein bruder
Skyward Sword is favorite Zelda, along with Majora's Mask
In the original Wii version, the game was constantly saving - but only in terms of which cutscenes you had already viewed. So if you got quite far in the game, then reset without saving, you could skip the cutscenes when playing through from the save point again. But if it was your first time watching a cutscene, you were forced to watch the whole thing.
I wouldn't say that Fi talked too much, it's just that Fi was poorly written. Considering animal crossing characters won't shut up over furniture, it's still fun to hear them. As a computer/sword she lacked any personality. Midna was beloved because she was cryptic, and when you looked something up she would say something sarcastic. Fi just stated the obvious, not even on par with Data, "it's Elvis Presley, a singer of the 1950s, died on a toilet." It's not so I loath Fi, I do enjoy her dance after every temple, it's a unique problem.
Nah its two different game types, she constantly interrupted you when you just wanted to explore and play the actual game. Vs Animal crossing which is all about interaction with the animals and living a chill social life.
@@marvelgamerz892 it's not about comparing. The Treehouse team is really talented with their translation, they could always have done better.
I do think updated versions of Zelda games are necessary. Quality of life and higher graphics quality really does a lot, especially for a beautiful game like SS. I do hate that Nintendo has pushed for the simplified aesthetic. Little things like the feather save slots, the Sheika stone, or the 25th anniversary opening were so charming. Those inconspicuous ornaments amplified the experience.
I’m sure no one cares for it since gamers usually like the functions of gameplay more than the charm. Still, I do miss when games felt more than just a game.
Camera is awful! The camera should follow behind you and let you adjust it as needed. I hate having to constantly micromanage the camera. They should have scrapped the entire control scheme and designed something better.
THANK YOU!. Somebody finally summed up the amiibo issue in this game. its just a OoT Farore's wind substitute. Now i can get this without grief, still going to wait for a discount though
Yes, I would really like to know how many changes they made to Fi’s dialogue
I like that the text in the dialog boxes is now in HD, but why make it smaller so it's both harder to see for people with bad eyesight and obviously just much harder to see in general if viewed on the Switch's relatively tiny screen. That's not user friendly UI design in 2021 imo. The text size was fine before, and this kind of now-common practice of using often very small text--this game actually isn't THAT bad in this regard--is just annoying.
Ya
I thought the same
And it's also in a different font, thus making it more compact on top of being smaller. Also they made fi's text box worse. Before it was at least readable...mostly. but now has a texture that brightens the background...and they still used white text over it. I'm thankful the normal npc text boxes got fixed at least.
You can always get spectacles for your eyes if they are crappy.
@@Novarcharesk That's not a defence of bad design. Making the text smaller serves literally no good purpose here. The new HD sharpness combined with the original text size that's more readable by everyone, even on a tiny screen like the Switch's, and actually matches the rest of the game's texture scale and the like a bit better too, is just better design.
I love zelda games so much. I already beat the game with all 20 hearts and a few other collectables including the hylian sheild. I have yet to upgrade everything or get all gratitude crystals, however. Took me only 2 days and 23 in-game hours. Even then, I didn't skip a lot of cutscenes or dialogue so I probably could've even completed it hours sooner. I adore this game.
Thanks for your video ☺️!!!
Loved the video bro! 😎
Would I be able to get a complete list of all the dialogue changes to Fi?
Can't tell you for sure since i only got to Lanayru since yesterday but from what i've noticed until now, almost all of her interventions that interrupt gameplay and/or repeat informations have been removed. Some of them still occur at the beginning as mentionned in the video but i'm assuming it's even more toned down later on. The Beetle dialogue in Skyview still exists for example. But ever since i got to Eldin, she's stayed quiet almost all the time if not for giving you some story dialogue or a new dowsing target. Nothing that messes with gameplay too much though.
@@skadi2911 Thanks man!
@@christianmcbrearty You're welcome ;-)
I feel like I played the original wayyyy too much, as I seem to be the ONLY person who’s noticed that they drastically increased Link’s stamina wheel. I don’t have the means to do a side by side, but I’d say it takes 30-50% longer to run it dry.
More than anything else, the toning down of Fi and only describing items once actually got me interested in this remaster.
lol
I don't like Fi as a mechanic, but as a character
She was pretty good in Hyrule Warriors.
I noticed that the item check girl quest has shrunk.
She already asks you if you missed her the second time you talk to her.
I don't get why they removed the stone that gives you hints.
Yes, it's a bit hand-holdy, but it always helped me as a kid when I got stuck or lost, which happened a lot.
Plus, it gave me hints about things I didn't even know were things.
It's not like the forced messages from Fi, as you never had to revisit the stone for any advice.
Maybe someone will mod it back into the game. It seems like a waste, but it's saves the trouble of having to leave the game to go online and search for hints.
I'd seen some crazy mods for Mario Odyssey.
people seem to forget these are games for kids :/
Yeah, I don’t think they needed to remove it entirely either, but I can see why they did it after all the backlash the original game had.
Yeah but you also have the internet at the tip of your fingers. Any guides you need are all there on youtube or online guides. Even back in 2011, you did not really need it.
Well with the internet is pointless yo waste space data to include them when everyone van look up in youtube for the solution
Is a nice move since that allow another improvements like the 60fps
@@anemite2 How does removing the stone give 60 fps?
Also, people were asking for more dungeons and such for the remaster, but a couple of video files to help the younger audience find all these secrets and tips is too much data space?
It's like how people were annoyed that the lore for Destiny was required to go online, instead of having it in the game.
There's one change I was looking forward to with an HD rerelease, making the skybox look more like a sky and less like a gigantic room with a sky wallpaper painted on.
Did you get that change?
Ohh
I love the music it play when that stone show us video hints
RIP, thanks for your hard work and hints in the OG
7:11 "[a guidance stone] will pop out, say "boing-oing", and..."
the deadpan delivery of "say boing-oing" had me CACKLING
I’ve had this game probably since it came out (the original) and I didn’t realize I could shake enemies off of the tightropes.
guud lawd
I still can’t get over the way this game looks in 60 fps. Like it’s not bad just a weird feeling.
It looks phenomenal compared to the old
Great video!
The graphic improvement is noticeable right from the first cut scene. When Link is first dreaming about the Imprisoned at the start of the game in the original O could absolutely not tell there were trees and junk around him and now you can see every little detail.
Yeah and the pastel/painting effect used as the depth of field effect for the game is massively toned down so things didn't get all blurry in the background for any object more then like 20 feet away. I went out of my way to disable that crap when I played the game in Dolphin. :P
Thankfully I won't have to do that with the Switch version. :D
Anyone else remember the goron that could softlock your save file and Nintendo actually had to put SS update 1.1 on the Wii shop channel to fix it?
Please explain I have no idea
@@zeldaenby224 There was a point in the game where you have to complete three dungeons to progress past a checkpoint in the narrative and game state. You are allowed to complete the dungeons in any order, however if you do them in a certain order the game does not properly recognise you have completed them all and because you can't complete them again your save file is now soft locked and you can no longer progress through the game any further using that file. Nintendo had to release an SS update for free to fix the issue and it was done in the form of a Wii channel that could be downloaded from the Wii Shop channel.
@@TheCookieFlavaJAR Nice explanation...But you didn't explain how the Goron was involved with this softlock. :P
@@TheCookieFlavaJAR oof
@@MagnumForce51 I think it only happend when you talk to a certain Goron in between the quests ... but I am not sure
I was fully expecting the dialogue in the Loftwing race to be slightly altered from 25th anniversary to 35th to honor the franchise anniversary like in the original...I was a bit disappointed they didn't 😕
That’s because it would be a change in the canon.
GameSpot: Let me explain...
*A wild ad appears.*
Me: I see...
Hope that nothing goes wrong with Zelda: Skyward Sword in Switch version like they did it on Wii version. On Wii version of Zelda: Skyward Sword, there are few problems, including motion controls not working right, or Link does run around without touching the motion control, just a name a few of malfunctions of Wii version of Zelda: Skyward Sword. At least I finished the game with Goddess Shield, the second best shield of the game, and that is a good news. The bad news is Link does double the damage in Hero Mode. If hit by an enemy, Link does take half heart damage in Normal Game Mode, but take a one heart damage by the same type of enemy in Hero Game Mode, or one heart damage if hit by boss enemy at the end of the dungeon when playing the normal mode, but two heart damage if hit by boss enemy when playing hero mode. Also defeating Demise, the final boss enemy of the game does unlock the hero mode of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which is my favorite Zelda game title. There are few of Pieces of Heart are too difficult to get, such the expert version of Rickety Roller Coaster Ride (after clearing Sandship Temple), Fledge's Pumpkin Pull Game (also clearing the Sandship Temple and a bow), and Dodoh High Diving Game (Scrapper is required and must defeat Imprison for the first encounter).
The motion controls for aiming bow & arrow and slingshot seem to actually be worse in the HD version. At least with the Wii, the sensor bar kept the thing from going wildy out of center most of the time. But on Switch it happens pretty much all the time.
I'd go to pull out my slingshot and the cursor is off to the side which causes my character to turn away from where I wanted to aim it at. It's super annoying. I don't get why it just doesn't auto center the moment you pull out a weapon that use motion controls for aiming. I think Breath of the Wild did this and I never had this issue. I have to remember to hit Y pretty much every time I intend to use said weapons. I shouldn't have to do this. The game could have just used what ever the joy con was pointed at when the weapon was pulled out as the center point. I hope they address this in a update or something.
especially if enough people whine over email
This is why i use the pro controller gyro
I remember when I first beat the game I deleted the file by mistake with the hero mode option… I was so sad 🥲
6:02 You would know it because Fi tells you their name along with other interesting information if you target them and ask her. But yes, having the name in the text box is an awesome improvement.
idk, I still found myself screaming "THANKS FI I GATHERED THAT" at the screen constantly. The items not having popups anymore is incredible though
6:02
Actually even in the original Wii game, it is possible to learn the names of those characters without having to go on the internet. all you had to do was just z Target them and then press Fi's button at the same time. A little awkward seeing how her button is low on the same controller at the Target button so I had to reach down with my thumb but doable
I didn’t realize you could do this for characters as I thought it was only for enemies. I appreciate you letting us know!
#11 Streamlined Item Information
This honestly infuriated me on the original, I only get to play games little and infrequently so inevitably had to keep turning it back on and getting explained what a butterfly is for the 500th time… it’s a sharp edged tooth, right?
Someone made a code for Skyward Sword so that there's no notification the first time you pick up a bug or treasure. I had to play with that code (even if no other cheats were on) because the notification was so annoying!
Do you have any game data saves that you can share from nintendo switch or if you use emulator? I want to swtich to nintendo switch but i do not want to start from the beginning!
Thank you! It was very valuable.
So mirror mode is for left-handed people right?
I whish you good health and enlightmant!
Kinda sad they didn't make hero mode available from the start.
I Love to have that option with games I played before to go on straight away with the harder version.
Ah well...
In the original Legend of Zelda entering your name as ZELDA (instead of LINK) puts you into the 2nd quest version.
Greatest final boss fight in the series is with resurrected Demise.
CHANGE MY MIND.
Battling the recurring giant stomping boss in the original was more annoying but that's because I was battling him the hard way. Now I know how to make it so that he stops shooting out shock waves for a while I believe I'll do much better this time with the HD version
I mean.... You raise your sword and lightning strikes you instead of the Master Sword charging up for a skyward strike. That's what made Demises boss fight the best for me
Ghirahim > all
I loved Skyward sword wjen it released, but Fi and the motion controls were always a huge barrier to replay. Glad to hear they addressed it
Im going to buy this game on monday and im so excited to finally play this again after 10 years
The original Skyward Sword is a good looking game but. . .holy damn this HD remake blows it out of the water! They managed to make everything look smother and cleaner while still making the Watercolor-esque colors work. It is especially prevalent in stuff that has a sheen, like Fi, or Ghirahim's earrings
really?
I needed to see a side-by-side comparison because I would not have been able to tell otherwise. Kills the whole "HD" shtick of the new release for me and makes it come across as a lazy, overpriced port.
im loving it rn!!!
If you pick up some individual Gratitude Crystal with the beetle tool, the explanation text won't show either.
I never finished thee original because it felt like a chore so when they released a HD remaster I didn't care but this video has convinced me to try it again. Thanks a million!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
Never got a chance to play it the first time so I'm so happy I have a chance now to play it. Link is my favorite game character ❤
You’ll have a great time 🥰🤗
Its so good espacially after the first 3 dungeons
But I liked Fii 😢 She was Useful for giving you information maybe I’m just dumb like if Fii didn’t tell me about the Kiku The little creature I’m not going to bother to spell it I would not have known to go after it
What I don't understand is when Nintendo was advertising the new changes, they list Fi's menu of information as new, write the fact that menu of information was actually there in the original Wii version.
Don't worry you can still summon Fi anytime you are stuck or when pointing something . It's better this way as it's ok to guide the player but Fi was a bit too much hand-holding.
15:52 actually you dont need to do sword practice in the original either. it's an option, you can say NO and continue on
I’ve seen every upgrade, but it’s so small I didn’t notice it was the flame! Also, I got up to the 4th key piece in the second dungeon without help. I watched ZeldaMaster’s playthrough 2/3 of the was, almost to Din’s flame. I’ll continue the Eldin dungeon in the morning because it’s 0:41 and I’m going to bed soon. (I don’t know why I have my phone in military time, I just did that for no reason since I understand it now.)
May we also get ports of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD for the Switch too, please???
Patience
@@mistressofdreams6031 There's no way they'll just let those HD ports waste away on the Wii U. They have to be waiting for a good time to re-release them. I wonder if they'll release them as a bundle towards the end of the year for Zelda's 35th like they did with Mario 3D All-Stars.
@@RyanStorey1231 Why do you think I said patience? 🤫😉
Damn ngl seeing all these positive comments about this HD port makes me happy
Enjoyed the video^^
Just some additions:
16:05 Fledge also gives you 20 Rupees if you talk to him after you delivered the barrel to the chef.
Also the motion controls are different. I know everyone is hyped because they don't have to use it, but I like them and so I couldn't help to notice that they are different from the Wii version.
Before, it didn't really matter in what direction you swing your arm, the sword strike is always in relation to how the Wii Mote is moving (e.g. in the direction of the face buttons).
Now, it doesn't matter how the JoyCon gets twisted or turned, the sword strike is more like the motion that you, the player, actually do. It took me by surprise and took a bit to get used to, so for people who like the motion controls, a noteworthy change imo
Glad you enjoyed the video! Fledge gives you 20 rupees for doing that in the original too so it’s not a change.
@@evanlanger98 In this case I wasn't careful enough in the original, thanks for letting me know^^
