Man, I love everyone telling me "I can't believe you support them selling this back to people at full price."
I don't. I would implore everyone to watch the video to its conclusion before commenting (I know you won't do it, but hey: I tried)
Actually, to add onto this, if you don't buy your games digitally I would actually advise people to buy SSHD used, because then Nintendo won't get your active support for pricing their games too high.

I was unable to get into Skyward Sword previously. I'm glad to see the QoL features are significant enough, and the gameplay experience smooth enough, for you to definitively recommend this over an emulator.
The $60 price tag is pretty steep, though. At $20 I'd almost certainly have picked it up. $60, though? And as you mentioned, one of the most major QoL features is locked behind an Amiibo...

im pretty sure you can emulate the skyward sword HD switch port on the switch emulator, or at least will be able to very soon, so i dont think people really need to buy this game, if they already played the wii version. Also is skipping cutscenes and dialogue really that great? you're essentially skipping the game, which ideally, is what we are trying to experience. If we are skipping it, it maybe wasnt that enjoyable to begin with.

Silent realms are arguably lazier than tears of light in TP, they didn't act as a barrier to an unseen location but rather a way to fart around for 10 extra minutes pretending it's engaging gameplay. I didn't fail a single one of the silent realms, they're an actual cakewalk and serve little to no purpose. Additionally, having to fight the imprisoned 3 times was also excessive. Coupling recycled areas with recycled bosses was why the reception for PH and ST were so bad.

@@Poefred Agreed. I'm thinking that those people just thought the silent realms were too hard or unfair. In my experience, they were exciting because I always knew there was an awesome item or something for me when I completed it.
Also, after playing through them repeatedly, you learn how to be quite comfortable with them and play it strategically. Knowing the landscape really well, using the beacon fruits strategically, and saving easy to grab tears for later are key to completing the silent realms most successfully and quickly. And replaying the game will help you learn the landscape really well.

The dungeons really show how weak BOTW's dungeons were. Don't get me wrong, they did open world right but Skyward Sword's dungeons are simple divine. Proper 2 hour challenges in their own right. Better than the divine beasts which could be done in 20 mins.

Honestly, the time is only one gripe to be had with the BOTW dungeons. Their biggest setback in my opinion is the homogenous collection of settings. Setting, time, and as John C. said, difficulty is what makes them fall flat (with one (dlc two?) obvious exception, but even then that's mostly optional (in spirit of the game)).
The overworld is beyond any other Zelda though, and it's well over enough needed to balance out the lackluster dungeon. But I did miss dungeons when playing the game.

Speedrunner here! Just to let everyone know how substantial instant text is, the previous world record for any% (no BiT because without a reset button that glitch is impossible and it saves like 4.5 hours) was 5 hours and 36 minutes. The current record in HD is 4 hours and 52 minutes.
Also, the amiibo saves a little less than 4 minutes in the any% run for those who are curious. It’s annoying.

They actually did this with a bunch of stuff, like claiming Fi triggers were reduced but all the footage showed that attempted to show the Fi text was gone were in places where there was no Fi text to begin with. Here's a minor gripe I have that I haven't seen anyone else talk about. In the first 5 Zelda games as well as the 3DS & Wii U remasters, there were 2 options for targeting. Either press the button and it'll keep targeting the enemy until you press it again, or hold the button to target the enemy, and it stops targeting when you let go of the button. But Breath of the Wild took away the first option so now you can only hold to target, and that change is also in Skyward Sword HD so it's technically a removed feature in the HD version. It's not a huge deal, but it still bothers me. I actually used the press to target feature in older games, but in BOTW & SSHD I can't do that anymore, and I probably won't be able to in BOTW2 either.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had all the paid DLC, a more fleshed out Battle Mode, faster loading, and better box art (don't @ me). Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition had a complete art overhaul, remastered music, added epilogue story content, and Expert Mode.

I think it’s also important to say that it’s ok to not buy the game AND complain as that lets Nintendo know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable, and warns customers.
Mass complaining works as EA found out with Battlefront 2 where they actually changed course and everyone got a better game and service, and EA was, for a while, hesitant about adding in more predatory micro transactions in other games. All thanks to complaints from social media; people who bought the game and many who didn’t. Thankfully, only a few defended EA’s crappy behavior. Usually with tiresome “if you don’t like like it, then don’t buy it” phrase which usually means the person has no argument to begin with.
The criticisms about full price for a 10 year old remaster with minimal effort, compared to the standard market price of AAA remasters which have a lot more included, are entirely valid and deserved. And then there is the amiibo of course - pure greed as he video rightly says.
As a paying customer who is enjoying the game, I am also entitled to complain about my purchase.
I have no problem with others who don’t mind paying and defending Nintendo(their opinions are just as important as mine), although this does mean that Nintendo is more likely to raise prices in future if lots of people accept this and don’t complain.

Even if i was a big fan of Nintendo, i agree with you, 60 dollars/bucks, even Euro it's priced at 60, it's way too much expensive for what it is, i remember getting the original games brand new, yet were cheaper in terms of price, not in terms of quality.
I am a nostalgic by times, but even i, think they could have lowered the price of their ports, i do hate when they goes on a crusade against any emulators, CZcams channels that share the soundtracks from their games, i also wish they could fix the joycon drift issues, from what i heard, they have lawsuits because of their refusal to fix the issue properly.
I remember when the remake of Bowser's inside story was blocked behind a paywall, and you had to wait for buying the game.
The retro-games are also locked behind the Nintendo Online and this is an obligation to have it in order to play some games.
The switch made me realize how i actually loved the previous consoles, the DS, 3DS, the Wii too who had an awesome library of games and it wasn't an obligation to have any pawall to buy them.
I am mainly on mobile to play games and discovered more games i have never heard of, like Sky Children Of Light which is made by the same people who made Journey, Flower and Flow, other games i could play without having an internet connection.
If Nintendo could fix their strategies, i would be interested in buying their products again. But as they don't want to listen to their customers, then i don't see the point of supporting them again.
Edit: Mario Run is also stuck behind a paywall, you need to pay to unlock new levels, Animal Crossing Pocket camp requires you to use your money to build things faster.
Another thing is, they discontinued the 3DS family, the Wii U and they are still updated..
People say, "oh but the online isn't that expensive", it doesn't look expensive, but they take more money than the amount they have shown, that happened to me, personally and i barely even used the online.

It also happened to me in the past. And guess what. Now I'm actually enjoying it. Now I see that the motion controls for this game were in fact a drawback to enjoy the experience for more time. These can be tiresome and even frustrating sometimes, but having the chance of turning them down is something more than welcome. You can play more time and now resume straight from where you were thanks to portability. Visually this edition is not having any improvement whatsoever, but HD plays an important role at making the art look at least "bearable" now. I mean, it's still cheesy but it's HD... And the other main drawback is the level design. If you're not a completionist and skip it right to the juicy parts (dungeons and bosses) you're definitely going to enjoy this. So yeah, it feels better. It's still not among the best games in the franchise, but if you can leave that out of your mind then I can recommend it to you. Just wait for a discount.

SSHD’s improvements are great, and are a sure welcome to anyone who might not like motion controls. However, as you went into on the last section, it’s the business practice and amiibo silliness that completely blemish the inspiration to me. I agree. I'm not left-handed, but it was one of the first things I looked for in the options and I think it's inexcusable to not include it in a game like this. I imagine Nintendo's excuse would probably be something like, "Oh, but Link holds the sword in his right hand so it'd be too awkward for lefties to play that way," (this is literally why they mirrored the Wii version of Twilight Princess, so the right-handed majority would be able to play it properly) even though we all know that's BS since the original Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess worked perfectly well with the ambidextrous design of the remote and nunchuk.

@@MarisaReset I personally would've wanted a left-handed mode for the motion controls to also mirror either Link or the game itself to make Link left-handed to match, simply because the only feedback motion controls can provide is visual feedback and Link being a lefty would help (also, I'm just used to Link being a lefty from literally every other Zelda game except Breath of the Wild), but I agree with your point overall.
The worst thing about that BS is that, if they actually said that, their reasoning would quickly become circular:
Nintendo: "We can't add a lefty mode because Link holds the sword in his right hand"
Anyone: "But Link is normally a lefty; why isn't he in this game?"
Nintendo: "Because it would be too awkward for a righty to play if Link was left-handed"
Anyone: "Then why not have both? i.e. Link can hold the sword in the left hand or the right depending on the player?"
Nintendo: "Uh... Uh... *(their brains desperately struggle to avoid exploding)* …Link is actually ambidextrous; it was only a matter of chance that he was left-handed in the older games... [other nonsense, other nonsense]".

So to reiterate stuff that people are probably tired off but which discourse around the game recently reminded me of... me and my sister were talking about our experiences with it (me playing it, her watching me play), and reminded me of what I truly believe is it's greatest flaw... it's lack of charismatic characters.
Here's the thing, we all love Groose. If one cares about character one is almost GUARANTEED to come to care for and cheer on Groose, he is just that good. Ghirahim is a striking villain who didn't let as many down as Zant because we knew he was a servant from the get-go, so we just enjoyed what he showed us. I also see a lot of love for this Zelda, and I think she's fine even if she's sidelined for a LONG portion of the game's run as seems to be the eternal fate of all Zelda, being dragged around by Sheik and pursued by Zelda and thoguh she does A Thing at one point she's not really THAT much of a mover and shaker in the plot. But because Zelda and Groose leave such strong impressions one kinda forgets that aside from them VERY few characters in the game are... ANYTHING, really.
In my opinion, this is MOST prominent in the races encountered in Hyrule. My sister is a MAJOR Gerudo fan, and when she heard this game was gonna go to the very roots of Hyrule's history and featured Hylians separated from everyone AND previews showed a desert area she was dead CERTAIN they were gonna feature the Gerudo. Maybe adress the different perspectives and circumstances between Gerudo and Hylians and possibly foreshadow Ganondorf? Suffice to say she was GRIEVOUSLY disappointed. Gerudo aren't even there. The Gorons were just a brief cameo, mostly replaced by the Mogma. The Zora are... MAYBE gone? Were the Parella supposed to be their pre-evolved forms? Maybe? And the Kikwi MAY be an earlier form of the Kokiri, but they're not quite the Kokiri.
"Ah", but I hear you argue, "It sounds like she was introduced to Legend of Zelda with Ocarina of Time, and is thus letting her nostalgia color her expectations! Of course she couldn't take the new features into her heart if she's constantly looking for the old and familiar instead of taking in the new!"
And I would say that's a very astute argument AND you're on the money on what was her "first" Zelda game, but just one more thing... WHAT 'new' were we given?
The Kikwi are a forest-dwelling race of jovial sprites.
The Mogma are the coarse but good-hearted hard-working inhabitants of a mountainous region.
The Parella are the aloof and etheral dwellers of a water-logged world.
And I had to look up the wiki for both Mogma and Parella's names because they did NOTHING MEMORABLE to make their names stick in my mind.
(The Kikwi at least had the decency to sport a punny name and look like adorable little bird-beaked scrotums.)
These races are just the Ocarina of Time-races remixed but with WAY less charisma. They don't have any memorable settlements or give the impression they've much of a culture or community. They don't really have any sidequests that can develop them or their histories, and while I get why they're split up and don't interact because ancient and wild Hyrule, they end up feeling like disjointed pieces rather than a cohesive whole, they don't come together to form an engaging world (they don't even talk about what THEY'VE been doing or how they've been surviving while the Hylians chilled up in Skyloft. There's nothing that really SEPARATES them from Gorons, Zora and Kokiri. The impression the left me with was the writers / designers going "Well we can't just recycle the old, we can't let ourselves be tied down by preconceived notions- let's INNOVATE!"
... And all they could do was reskin what was already there. And somehow this took so long there wasn't any time left to give the reskins a story.
Okay, that's me being facetious- I know Skyward Sword's focus was on creating puzzle overworlds, so it was probably intentional that they didn't create any towns or intricate NPC:s- that just wasn't their goal. But it DID have the unintentional side effect of making me MUCH less invested in Hyrule, because when the Mogma were chased out of their homes and I had to Solid Link my way around, or when the forest was flooded troubling both Parella and Kikwi, I just... didn't care. At no point did I feel endeared by or engaged with these races. I just saw them as checkmarks I had to run around and talk to in order to progress, because there wasn't anything to them to make me see them in a different light. And just look at the fandoms treatment of them- when was the last time you saw Mogma or Parella fan-art? They've done VERY little inroads into fans hearts. There's just no hook to them. If you're not here for the puzzles, traversing Hyrule in Skyward Sword is BORING. And yeah, I know you can't expect Nintendo of all companies to care about story over gameplay but I'm just saying- Ocarina of Time managed the balance better and that game became an instantly beloved classic. Skyward Sword can't reach that far because they put it all on one card, and much as I LIKED that card I'm the type who needs both to LOVE a game.
I will admit I liked the Hylians more than my sister did. Due to aforementioned reasons she felt Groose was the ONLY one who left an impression, and I won't exactly argue that. Groose is beauty, Groose is grace, but a game cannot survive on Groose alone. Still- I also felt charmed by Peatrice and her infatuation arc (if only because it asked us to make a dreadful choice), Fledge's journey from twink to twunk (though I admit I had to google his name, could have sworn it was "Pieck" or something) and of course, the OG Dampierre and his adorable quest for humanity. Buuut... we had BOTH let ourselves be swayed by previews saying Skyloft would have a lot of sidequests to think we'd be getting something like Majora's Mask. NOT the case. Charmed as I occasionally were, most of the errands in Skyloft were dull fetch quest with little to no story attached to them and NONE could stand up to the greats like Anju and Kafei, or Anju's extended family, or Gorman drowning his sorrows in milk or the guard and carpenters arguing with the mayor, or just about any of the mask-providers and their tragedies. Just like OoT's races, SS just couldn't stack up to the greats in the series.
Wherever you stand in the "gameplay versus story" balance I don't know, and I do acknowledge SS is more fun to PLAY than OoT... provided you manage to get the motion controls which I could but it seems a lot just plain couldn't, and if you're one of them then yeah that's a BIG negative. And I will admit I flubbed the first sailcloth test a TON and couldn't quite get the hang of Loftwing flight until later, and funny story- The Ancient Cistern, the temple and boss so many love? I spent SO long on that boss because I UTTERLY misinterpreted what you were supposed to do with it. I think I was down to like three hearts before I FINALLY grasped the trick. In my defense I IMMEDIATELY got Ghirahim and handed him his ass in ALL his encounters, so it's not JUST that I have to Git Gud. But in the end I felt it's worldbuilding was FAR weaker and less engaging than OoT's, with the charmless races and characters contributing to a large portion of that. Again- the ones that work are like charm ICBMs, so overwhelming and accurate that it's easy to forget that when they're NOT on screen what we get is cardboard stuffed with sawdust. But I'd say it's not right to ignore the lows when casting judgment on SS as whole.
So yeah, sorry for the impromptu review in the comment section, I just wanted to word-vomit a little on something that bugged me with SS for a long time and that I don't really see a lot of discussion on. I'd say it's a 7 / 10, 6 / 10 in it's weaker moments. Overworld is fun, the world-building is not. Some think that's important, some don't. I think that in the end there probably won't be some DRASTIC re-evaluation of SS in the coming days. Those into gameplay over story might finally be able to engage with it on better terms, but my (and those like me) issues remain so I'm gonna keep thinking what I already think. Glad it's remade so it can remain accessible moving forward, at least.

      @Gernam12 Před 2 lety

I dunno if this helps, but maybe try using your whole arm instead if you wanna still use motion. The joycons are lighter than the Wiimote and the loftwing speeds up if you're pointing it down by even keeping your arm lowered. Use the charges to make the loftwing fly higher, and then keep your arm lowered to have him speed up by descending.
That's only if you're not just using buttons for the loftwing.

the loftwing controls really suck. The beetle for me is easy to control tho. Very hit or miss on the motion controls for this game. The swordplay espescially the percentage of times it'll go the way i want is pretty close to 50/50 now, which is poor. The way combat is set up keeps this pretty far away from my favorite zeldas list.

I just want the addition of a left-handed mode for the motion controls; it would be as easy as just remapping each form of motion control to the opposite joy-con (and both joy-cons have the exact same motion-control hardware, so it's more than possible) and then mirroring either Link or the game to make Link left-handed to match. It would take far less time to implement and test than the button controls undoubtedly took.

I'm glad they released it for the switch however so I finally have a chance to play it. Always been curious on it even though channels like this and others have given me the story of it. No spoilers warning needed, I'm a huge LOZ fan without being the one playing it. On my way now to go grab my copy and I'm excited to see what the first story in the "timeline" has to offer. Wish me luck. And thanks big time to you KingK for your videos brother.
