It seems like a bunch of automakers are now making these insane, V8, gas guzzling, cars because they probably know regulations soon won’t allow them to anymore.
Bingo, same issue with gasoline prices currently imo. This is their last chance before everything moves to electric and gasoline is going to be dirt cheap again due to low demand. Now is their chance to price gouge and they're definitely taking it.
Or they planned to make these during the years Trump was in office while gas prices were low. It's not a coincidence that gas guzzlers were popular in the early 2000s before gas prices got high between 2008-2010 and popular again when Trump was in office.

And they kill things off as soon as they finally get it right.

Love my moms palisade for that reason.
I’ve been in an Escalade V, the first “sports” vehicle I’ve ever driven that made me want to drive calm and quietly everywhere I went 😂
Cadillac has really changed in the last few years, I can't believe the _escalade_ is now the most powerful thing in their lineup!
GM came a long way too. I love the C8 corvette. I’m a Ford guy but in my honest opinion, GM doesn’t deserve hate. Yeah I’d honestly would rather buy a Mustang over Camaro NOT to crash into a crowd (overrated joke lmao) but the fact that it looks better then a Camaro.
Ever since Audi man took over the brand is in the drain IMO. I owned 2 gen 2 CTS-V's and an ATS , I don't think I would consider another car from them in the current lineup
Not at all. The Escalade always had a huge engine stuffed in it. They've just gone to great lengths to wring more power out of them because they don't want it to keep running long past the warranty. Heh, they should use marketing like, every time you drive one of these, you kill a baby penguin. For those who think I'm kidding, they are effected a lot more than I am by global warming.

Honestly I totally agree here 5:25. It doesn't matter if they don't have the brand name of MB. People who want an Escalade and can afford it will buy it simply because of that name, Cadillac Escalade. That's been the staple of American boss level luxury.
I thought it was a weird comment. "They don't have the brand name of Mercedes..." Yeah, the have the brand name of Escalade. The MB just looks like a fat wagon. This looks like a (frickin') Escalade.
I see way more escalades than gls. Escalades are every 5th car where I live or so it seems like
The 73 year old on their fifth wife that owns a local GM dealers in your area drives one of these.
“And can afford it” does not describe the typical Escalade owner.
It goes the other way, too. Anyone shopping for an MB isn’t going to consider a Cadillac. Money can’t buy class.
I like watching the back window noticeably drop down any time Doug hits the gas
Finally a car big enough to almost block off Doug in the thumbnail
I'm glad GM decided to make a V version of the Escalade. It just sucks that it's being launched during a time of historically high gas prices. Then again, it probably won't matter as much to the folks who can afford this.
yep gas prices have been this high in other markets for ages and it hasn't stopped the wealthy from driving cars with V8 and V12 engines. Gas expenses are pocket change to someone who can afford a car that costs 6 figures.
If you drive this, you are not concerned about the price of gasoline.
@@JohnSmith-bt4lf You're not wrong.

@@moflow99 Is a pickup truck worth 90 grand plus? People said the same thing about them; and I could say the same thing about a dozen other cars on the road.
For example, I don't think the Tesla is worth what they charge either. The interior looks like an economy car. At least the Cadillac does have true luxury feel and heritage. Even if it does include some flimsy plastic parts.
All the people talking about profit here. They gotta be Ford fans, I’ve never heard anyone talk about the profit of a Lincoln Navigator with a V6 engine.
Apart from the engine, and the better layout, and the brilliant idea of a button up front to drop the 3rd row (which I continually moan about in my 2019 XL Denali), I can't really see/justify the price tag. a Cadillac badge isn't enough. I'd be quite happy sticking with my Denali, which has been fantastic.
I was expecting a higher towing capacity with that kind of power and those brakes, especially with the new Sequoia being rated at 9500lbs
You need reliable torque to tow good, extreme power doesn’t mean extreme towing capacity
@@zn-n exactly, the Escalade V has more torque than the sequoia, Durango hellcat, and Grand Wagoneer but has the lowest towing capacity of them
@@oladeleayoola right but I meant low end torque, this is a high rpm performance v8 engine which has its power kick in past 6k rpms, Diesel engines have extreme low end torque which is why they tow so good
Making an HD version with high towing capacity would be better suited in the Suburban/GMC lineup than Cadillac. This is a vanity purchase not a utility purchase, since it's in the Cadillac lineup.

Saw this thing a week ago accelerate out of the entrance of the GM Milford proving grounds. This thing is insane!
I could be perfectly content with the luxury and conveniences at one third of that price, in a 2023 Suburban! (which is what the Escalade is at heart)
I really like how GM is trying to improve Cadillac’s image. Maybe Ford should try to sell high-performance / sportier Lincolns but really Lincoln is primarily focused on fancy. The Lincoln LS is pretty “close” to a sports sedan however. BTW great review Doug!!
I mean if you look into it a bit the new Lincoln’s aren’t sport focused but they also aren’t slow vehicles. Actually before the Escalade-V the regular Navigator was a bit faster than the Escalade.
Lincoln already threw the Raptor engine in the Navigator and the next generation will probably be electric so throwing the Vodoo engine from the GT500 and Raptor R just wouldn’t unfortunately make since given their imagine but it would make sense in the Expedition
Lincoln is focused on geriatrics. Ford has the SVT trim for many of their models. Don’t need a separate brand
I wish they would but Lincoln is purposely staying out of the performance brand. Not only with not having a dedicated performance line, but in general not building to that niche. So many luxury makers are all fighting over the sporty segment. Lincoln's brand pillar is "Quiet Flight". They aren't in this market and don't want to be.
GM as a whole will most likely not succeed their plan being the largest seller of EVs if not the largest in the US.
