I was obsessed for months, I can't believe chinese bl is back, but it's also one of my fav BL novels. back in 2021 I've been so freaking obsessed with it, I've read "Kaleidoscope of Death" like 4 times and never in my life would I think that my one true love Huang Junjie is gonna play Qiushi and gonna come back after the Reboot Pingxie that killed me to kill me again, I'm still shoooked I have no words, I still think it's some fever dream for real lol (you all know I love him a lot), bc I never actually had such an experience before when your fav got casted for the role in your fav book you thought is never gonna be adapted. this is insane and holy shit the CHEMISTRY THE CHEMISTRY I'm on the floor.

The beauty of censorship is how it forces clever use of metaphor and silent language, and we end up in that beautiful tension where love is "always implied, never expressed". And it sometimes makes for incredible cinema. That classic about how east Asians rather than say "i love you" would say "the moon is beautiful tonight" or "the nightbreeze is fresh and warm" is true in many ways. I like it. I like knowing love is there without being drowned in banal declarations and cheesy dialogue. Sometimes it makes it stronger.

So I just read last chapter of the novel to know it is happy ending or not just for satisfy my mind. And I come to know that it is happy ending in novel but it couldn't satisfy me beacuse I want to watch a proper happy ending in drama too though I know it won't happen. Damn!😭 After The Untamed this is the 2nd drama that made me overwhelmed.

This was such an amazing drama. The chemistry between Xia Zhi Guang and Huang Jun Jie was off the charts. There are not all that many Chinese "bromances" where the chemistry is as good as this. However, while the drama was so wonderful, the novel was 100 times better. These characters and this story was worth the second watch I just finished and will be worth a second read when I decide to do it. I loved Ruan Nanzhu and Ling Quishi so much!

I didn't want this series to end. I had a lot of scenarios for a better ending in the series, like Lingling's friend could've returned and it was Nanzhu all along or that Lingling created a virtual game in just 5years wherein Nanzhu is his exclusive NPC or that after 2 years, Nanzhu came back from the 12th door for Lingling and they created a normal but exciting virtual game or that the people from obsidian and allies from other organizations have memories of the doors like Lingling but only Lingling remembers Nanzhu. My only consolation in the series is thatthe friends who died in the doors are actually alive and healthy outside the real world, still, why Nanzhu didn't even come back in the end? I even wished for more doors to be unlocked..and with that dissatisfaction, I searched where it was based from and read the novel in just days. Still, I can't get enough of Nanzhu and Lingling's characters in my head. The actors are great in this series. Since I watched the series first, when I read the novel, they automatically acted the scenes which were not included in the series inside my head. I'm so obsessed. Spirealm is next to The Untamed and Unknown. These 3 are forever in my top 3 re-watch collections.

Omg 😱 I have been obsessed with Kaleidoscope of Death since February! I finished the novel in like a week and read all fanfics available 😭 The Spirealm was so good!!! Even though the actors were quite young when they shot this but they delivered!!! My new obsession is Xia ZhiGuang!! Like man can act and dance!!! He played Nanzhu so well!!!! I really hoped we could see him in cosplay as Ruan Baijie and Zhu Meng in the show but he played them so good that I didn’t feel the difference that cross-dressing element wasn’t there!! Also omg 😳 he is so hot 🥵 and handsome!!!! My new celebrity crush!!! Huang Junjie is so cute ☺️ I really shouldn’t ship the actors but 😭 they’re really cute together!!! NanQiu are just chefs kiss perfect shameless couple!!! The plot twist in novel took me out 🫣 I wasn’t expecting that at all 😅 Thank you 🙏 for putting together all of my favorite scenes 😊 I hope we can have more edits 😊
Ahaha high five, I’ve been obsessed with the book for 3 years, so as soon as they said the drama leaked fully I started watching it in Chinese without any subs only understanding half of it and the other half remembering from the novel, then I also reread it for the 7th time I think and that’s how I’ve spent the last month, I love huang junjie ever since he played zhang qiling, I wasn’t expecting him to occupy all of my fav books at once, I was so happy to see him back it’s unreal!! despite a lot of changes i can’t even complain, they got the relationships 200% correctly, I’m surprised they mentioned crossdressing theme and even included a photo at all, but so true I also wanted to see xia zhiguang fully like that like in the SOTMD with tang fan 😭❤️ I think it was a perfect casting really
Thankfully they have released it on Official Platforms! I am rewatching it with correct subs! I think there was going to be a The Spirealm fanmeeting with Xia ZhiGuang and Huang JunJie in May but one of the actors agency cancelled it 😭 I am just 2 months into the fandom so I can’t imagine how much you waited for the show! 😭 I want to gatekeep KOD but these amazing actors really deserve all of the attention and support!! Huang JunJie is such an amazing actor! I really loved him as Zhang Qiling! That 1 picture of Guang as Baijie was really enough for us 😅🤣 he is so pretty! Otherwise Chinese censorship would have come for the show 🥲 I was hoping we could at least get a hug between the main couple but I am fine with a piggyback ride and a handshake too 😭 I hope we can see them act together but I don’t think it will be possible 😭

The Spirealm is now my number one, side by side with The Untamed. I just love the series so much. I've also finished the novel and it's good tho but for me, I love the series more. The things I like in the novel are the gory scenes, the extra doors and some sweet scenes between Nanzhu and Juishi. But the changes in the series made me love it even more. The added stories for every ghost doors, the changes in some characters like Zaozao and Li Dongyuan. They were more loveable in the series so I really became attached to them making their death more painful. I love the series Nanzhu and Juishi more and some may disagree but I like the series ending more. Maybe I'm just into bittersweet endings. Idk. Overall, this series is a 100000000/10 for me. I can't move on from them. 🥹❤️

The spirealm is the best, nothing can beat this masterpiece.. when I see the part where cheng qianli, lee dongyuan and the female actress die in that story, I cried watching plus reading them.. And when the twelfth door of the game ends and Nanzhu goes.. I am still little sad about the ending of that story.. but that's okay.. because after 30 years, Lin jiushi recreated that game.. it's the best bromance I've ever watched.. ❤🥺🥀🫂

The ending was bittersweet; this series made me cry so much. I am happy they reunited afterwards, but 30 years is such a long time. And Ling is already old when they reunited. I have so many questions, like why did it take 30 years to create the virtual reality again? And did Ling meet his friend who created the game? If he had met his friend, then it would have been easier and faster to create; it wouldn't have taken 30 years. And about the ending, even though there was no kissing scene, since I understand they made it as a bromance, but I wanted them to at least hug each other.
After the Spirealm I really hope we can get other dangais 😭😭 Would love to see Haoyixing, Fenghuo Liujin and Eternal Faith 😭 I don’t want to be old waiting for them to release!!!

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of chinese drama, not until I watched The Spirealm. At first, I thought it was kind of dramatic cinematography because I'm not used to watch a series like this one. However, as I keep going, I find myself being addicted to this drama, because these series is such a wonderful drama that I've ever seen. Even with the censored they put in this drama, you really can feel the longing in their eyes, the words that coming from their mouth, and allllll. I was hoping that people will recognize and appreciate this drama. Too bad that it was taken down after they released the series. I'm sure that it will be a big hit if only it was promoted properly😭

PS: I'm reading the novel 'Kaleidoscope of Death' if you didn't know. It's quite different from the series but, both of the novel and the series is a masterpiece. You'll never regret this one!

Both of them suffered so much. Losing dear friends and then losing each other. RNZ Not being able to change his destiny and LinLin knowing he couldn’t do anything at that moment. Making promises to each other that they tried to fulfill but destiny had other plans. LinLin dedicated the rest of his life to meet RNZ again and make their promises a reality.
The ending of the drama wasn’t so bad for some people. I still prefer the one in the novel. The actors did an excellent job portraying their characters. And this is a really good drama. ❤

Finally an update, As usual it's amazing. I will definitely put it in my playlist along with The lost tomb ones. I watched the drama only because of Huang Junjie and I don't regret it. Their chemistry is amazing and the subtle hints through out is cherry on top. While I was watching the drama I decided to read the novel being the scardy cat I am it took me a whole week and I only read it at daytime. I guess its time to rewatch the drama.

@@pabixiao yes, that’s in general just my own problem tbh bc I really love an emotional rollercoaster, that’s one of the reasons why I’m so obsessed with Chinese bl stories :) and I’ve always known that gmm’s audience is mostly teens and there are times where I also enjoyed their “feel good” series and also just loved the lore of gmm in general (loved it since 2017), it’s just lately something to me feels off in their series and I can’t quite explain what it is, those soft series do not touch my heart the way their old ones did and I just keep seeing things that give me a feeling like ppl who are working on those got a bit tired of making them (could be just me, but I doubt it haha), but we’ll see, maybe things will change :) for now their late feel good stories fail to make me feel good, I’m just robotically make it through the episodes just cause I don’t lose hope and want to stay updated on my gmm universe lol
but in everybody’s defense I’m very picky about chemistries, characters, dynamics and the kind of love I love, so I haven’t felt much ever since nlmg, I’m still stuck on this, I’m watching ‘we are’ and my heart is still back somewhere on the island 😂
The drama ending will always traumatize me. Thankfully I read the novel but still the pain😭

Have carefully stayed away from Mainland Chinese bromance - after Addicted and Advance Bravely. Both with abrupt ending ... Addicted, in particular, forever hanging, unresolved. Such a bad experience, could never move on to The Untamed, Word of Honor, Justice in the Dark, etc.
Mostly, bromance is a particular kind of frustration hell. Lol.
So ... what is the recommendation? Read the novel first before giving this bromance series a chance ... once it's re-release with better subs?
Even tho there's no any sexual touchings the gazes they share makes me shiver!! ❤❤

I still need to finish this drama, got 10 plus episodes left. Bilibili annoyingly took down the good translated videos, so I now have to watch a poorly translated version. I also finally found the novel today (27th April 2024) and read 4 chapters, still another 130+ chapters to read.🫠😭

Hey, guys, what do you think about the novel? Are there the same relationships? I enjoyed watching the drama, i loved the chemistry between them, but I'm a little bit afraid of starting reading the novel.
I really like reading bl, it's just i don't like the relationships of "Uke" and "Seme"(if i named them correctly, hhhhh). I mean i don't like when a character in a bottom position is weak and shy and a character in a top position is very strong and cold-blooded
