      Can't agree with best overall. RX 5700 XT's power consumption is too high for a 7nm chip. Just imagine a 2070 Super at 7nm; it would probably be a 125W card, 150W at worst.

      I don't understand the "enthusiast" award at all. I've always understood enthusiast to mean top of the line... Or very near top end. In what world is a 5700 non XT an enthusiast GPU? Are they saying that it can be "tuned" or OC'd well? If so, that still is not what most people consider enthusiast category. Comparing a 5700 and a 2080ti Kingpin for enthusiast category is just absurd imo. Newer PC builders would really be thrown off here....

    I'm very happy to see some budget GPUs being optimized for 1080p settings at even High graphics. Especially with energy efficiency. I appreciate smaller builds now, with much smaller energy footprints. It saves power for other things, and I don't have to worry about random circuit breaker issues in winter (heaters cost a lot of energy). In this way I can get better quality monitors/TVs and play games clear with higher Hertz and still have clear image quality. I've been using a 1660 Ti (which isn't budget per se, but very energy efficient for the power) recently and it's nice being able to take my PC to a friend's house or otherwise with no fuss. I can even transfer it between rooms with little effort. I'm very excited for the mini-console style PC builds that might be possible in the future, so long as they still let me mod my build, we cool.

    Correction, power input matters as much at the low end, or maybe even more. It's rather bizarre to say that budget buyers "don't care about a couple of watts". Budget gamers who also have to pay for their electricity SHOULD be worried about a 75 watt power difference. If you game for an average of 3 hours per day, thats roughly 10-30 euro difference in power cost per YEAR (depending on your electricity cost at 10~30 cent per kWh). If you plan on using the card for 2-3 years that can ramp up to quite a difference for a "budget user"

    • @paranoidrodent
      @paranoidrodent Před 4 lety

      While I agree that the 2080S was a disappointing refresh of the 2080 compared to the 2070S in particular, it was a pleasant arrival for me as I did my 3900X build this summer. I paid 2080 prices for a (moderately) faster card (2080 prices only started to consistently drop around here a few months later) and OCed it further (that new VRAM is underclocked in stock configuration and has tons of headroom to go further). It's in a nice sweetspot of performance for ultrawide 1440p monitors like my new one. Enough grunt to keep up with the monitor but without the 2080Ti's price.

    • @mduckernz
      @mduckernz Před 4 lety +1

      @@Bruno_AFK This is a problem I can't see being fixed until they earn some more money. NVIDIA can afford to hire many more people to develop their drivers - games are often shipped near-or-outright-broken in the graphics department and rely on GPU vendors to fix their shit. This is easier to do with more and better people, which costs money.
      It's really unfortunate but a basic consequence of their relative sizes I'm afraid.
      It's already incredible that AMD can successfully take on Intel, a company many times their size - but it is really stretching credibility that they could do the same with NVIDIA at the same time. One or the other, but not both I think.
      This will change once they start earning more income from their Ryzen and EPYC (especially this, the server market segment - big and reliable money therein).
