I am definitely not a stunt rider but I am reasonably okay at doing a wheelie. Here are some tips: 1 Body Position, sit further back on the saddle with your back leaned back slightly (look up on the internet and try to recreate that), keep that position the same throughout the start till the end of the wheelie.
Try doing a wheelie in second gear if first is to scary this way you learn correct body position and correctly clutching up rather than using the power of the bike.
Always keep the throttle consistent throughout the wheelie, find what works for your motorcycle this way it’s easier to keep them consistent, last longer and improve upon. And really try to land the motorcycle smoothly so it doesn’t damage the front fork seals or otherwise your bike needs a little bit more than a top end rebuild 😅.
I learned to wheelie on a ktm duke 125 (15hp) and now own a 450exc sumo and gsxr 1000 k6. I used the same method for all 3 bikes, I know u can do it aswell! Keep looking back at the footage and compare it to people who have similar motorcycle and you’ll get the front wheel at 12 in no time!
    (Sorry for the poor English)

First of all, not a stunt rider, but i have a lil more experience on wheelies, and its all about body position, if u check the video, you all curved on top of the front wheel, thats what making your wheelies so much harder to get up and running and so unstable. My advice, try on second gear, harder to get up but way less scary and body position is way more important, then go as slow as u can, cluch up and relax ur back and arms, go back to lil baby wheelies until you get your body position right. keep checking back on your camera to see if you corrected it. it was my major problem trying to wheelie. Using the bike to fight ur body is a good way to get hurt. Have fun

Next time youre out training, instead of chasing the wheelie try popping up the bike and as soon as you get up, press the back brake! That will make you more comfortable using the brake (the break is key!) then do it over and over again and try to get higher and higher, this will also help you get over that scary barrier before balance point easier, quicker and more safely than for example chasing the wheelie 😉👍

My longest wheelie is 2 miles.. so I might know a thing or 2. Learn in first gear, you will crash so it’s better to be going slower. Practice popping the clutch and smashing the footbrake to build muscle memory and confidence. If you don’t you will not remember to use it when you go too far back. Slowly work the bike up to higher and higher and try not to chase it. When your forks are parallel to ground that balance point. Smooth throttle is your friend, don’t brap it! Stay the course and good luck! It takes time and practice.

Some tips on wheelies too (I sometimes find balance point but I´m scared to keep it there): leaning rearward and keeping your arms straight and keeping your back straight will make wheelieing so much more controllable, and also keep your feet on the rear brake. Constant throttle input but correcting using the rear brake. I bought a supermoto to practice wheelies but I went and learned a lot more on my MT09 😂

Nice effort. I can relate to some things, like having a nice bike you dont wanna crash / fear etc. The 10k hours is not needed, if one havnt ridden a bike before it might take some time ofc. No need to rush it, build on it. These bikes have much engine break so no need to keep break pressure for a regular wheelie but once you are trying to do things like 12o clock you could have a light pressure on the brake. Doing a high wheelie like that feels extremely wrong when learning it, hard to get over the fear aspect. For me it took only one night of riding in a parkinglot to scrape the rear fender, same for my friend. Was also on supermotard. One easy tip for you, go to a hill, try wheelie UP it, much easier to get a feel for how things works then, and you could probably also learn how to wheelie slower then! Getting the bike up high FAST will also help keeping the RPM down thus a easier bike to handle and more rev range to play with!

I am also learning wheelies on my DRZ400, I am able to bring it up in 1st through 3rd and can click into 4th. What I have found is when it comes up you let off out of fear and it drops, even when not at balance point, instead of letting off try just backing out of the throttle a tiny bit and staying smooth instead of jabs. When I began to be smooth I naturaully found balance point and just a few weeks later I found how to push the balance point and use the engine brake. I can now hold wheelies for essentially as long as possible without using brakes at all.

  • @guillaumetsogbe-hamel2145

Here is 4 top tips to learn how to wheelie safely and effectively.
Tip #1 and most important: learn how to use de rear brake. Alot of poeple underestimate its power and its the secretbto doing good wheelies. Start by lifting up the wheel of the ground and emediatly apply the brakes to get a feel. It needs to be a second nature so that you press it in panic instead of yeeting your legs.
#2 don't chase wheelies, idealy you should not take speed on wheelie focus on finding the tipping point. (quick trick apply a slight bit of brake when popping the wheel of the ground) it will prevent the bike from accelerating and give you more confidence safety, and controll to find the tipping point.
#3 dont fight the bike, follow it. you should have a relax position and be relaxed. Try finding an incline and sit on it just like in a wheelie to visualize the angle. As odly as it sounds y unlocked my fear of getting to the tipping point by riding a lawn mower in a steep incline.
#4 if you can try to practice on dirt with knobies at low speed or get propper slidd8ng equipement for you and your bike . Dont worry about the machine those thbings are cheap as fuck to fix. You can also try at higher speeds in higher gears the bike is much more smooth to controll and less edgy at lets say 50 mph .and try slowly raising the wheel without taking speed.

Actually, it's a common misconception that it takes so long to learn skills. What you have to realise is that people might do stuff for years, but not for very long at a time. Even if you go out to a lot, doing wheelies for 4 hours, if you stop for 5 minutes after every 20 second wheelie you're not actually getting that much practice in.
Actively practicing a skill humans learn much much quicker. I work as an off road motorcycle instructor and you'd be surprised that people, even kids that have NEVER ridden motorcycles before are competent enough to go onto a fairly rough offroad track after only 3-4 hours of training, of which at least 1/3 is just explaining stuff.
From there another 2-3 hours and they get comfortable off road to the point where they can actually put in fairly decent times. Then we usually move onto trials, and again they can clear some pretty impressive obstacles in fairly short amount of time. I'd say after 25 hrs of training they can comfortable complete most things in our trials park, even if not first try, or not perfectly but they can do it.
It's the same for wheelies too. If you go out and practice an hour, I guarantee you that after 5-6 sessions, you'll be consistently be able to pull off good looking, long ish wheelies. There isn't months of practice involved, if you decide to do 1hr everyday for a week, then that's all it'll take. Biggest blocks for progression are mental blocks such as "what if I hurt myself, or my bike" and not practicing often enough, having to re-learn things everytime, before you can actually go on to improve your skills.
Forgot to add, what you said at 7:40 is absolutely crucial, only practice until you start regressing. There your skills will NOT improve after that point. Either take a long break, or finish for the day. This is the same as with going to the gym, the first 30 mins are the most productive, everything after that is rapidly diminishing returns.

    Mmm, I have to ask
what practical benefit does this ‘skill’ reveal? Is it to escape invading zombies where you can smash through a pack using the hard undercarriage of the bike as a shield? Is it to prepare the bike for leaping over a log , trials style? Is it to get up a stairwell into your apartment? Is to flout the road rules and prove what a total rebel you are to the man?
In my 55 years of riding road bikes, I’ve never felt the need or desire to deliberately ‘chuck a wheelie’ , nor actually have I had bike capable of withstanding the mechanical abuse needed to achieve it!
My trials riding was a different thing altogether, however.
I guess Im just a silly old codger who thinks such activity on the road is but an embarrassment to one who does it. As my mum would say, grow up mate.

It's 10,000 hours to be an *expert* in a field. That doesn't mean "do a good wheelie" but rather "compete in a stunt world championship"
If you're looking at just doing a decent wheelie, it will take you a few hours

Stop giving excuses n keep training. Nobody need 10000 hrs to get wheelies. U cab get it in 8 to 10 months if u train 1 hr per day 3 to 4 times a week
