10 years later and this video saved me a lot of time thank you.
What year is you're Explorer? Does you're Explorer lean slightly to the right?
you need an updated video on removing the assembly itself. all i need is to remove the bulb, but i can't get it to turn either way. i read that counter clockwise is the right way, but it is tight. so i am going to just pull the assembly out so i can get it out. but your instruction on how to remove the assembly is very vague. just push down on the little teeth on the right side? i couldnt get anything to move. much appreciated if you have any tips. I really dont want to go to a shop to have this simple thing done. The hood has fell on my head three times tonight so I am done for the night and will have to sleep on it lol. Looks like i need some new hood shocks as well.
Ordered new headlights and turn signal lenses..followed the video instructions...easy peasy!! Explorer looks great!!
+L Jac Thank you for your feedback and your business!
You guys save us lots of time $ and headaches. Thanks for taking the time to show us the right way to do things, even if you have to redo some part because your hair got in the way. Really appreciate it.
+Newtire No problem. Glad to hear it helped you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
They sure do!
Bought two headlights for 99 Explorer from you all. I just replaced the passenger side. I had to loosen my chrome trim in order to get the headlight in.
Everything works. Thank you! Great video.

I've had to remove my headlights several times now due to a hid projector retrofit and I've found that a 12mm socket will fit over the back of the clips that hold the headlights on. Just slide it onto the clips and wiggle it while pulling on the headlight, and it should pop right out. Make sure to tie some fishing line to the socket so that you can retrieve it, if it falls behind the grille.
+TheKing0fHalo Thank you for checking us out, and providing this information. It will certainly assist other viewers! 1aauto.com
Thank you!!! I finally just busted the thing out! UGH!!!
This video is great...if you want to change the headlight or lamps on the passenger side. If you want to do it on the driver's side, you'll have to navigate around a stupid post/brace because there's stuff in the way where you would just put your hands in like in this example. So unless you've got teeny-tiny hands, you'll either have to disconnect the battery to go in from behind or take the whole assembly out and do it the hard way.
true that. I JUST finished the drivers side. it was a pain in the ass...
Exactly! Every moron shows everybody how easy the passenger side is and fails to show what a number one pain in the ass it is to get at the driver side bulb just to change it out. You have to disassemble half of the truck just to change a stupid bulb and you can imagine how many people just throw their hands up and take it to Ford for $125 an hour.
Wow, its easier than I thought. just getting everything aligned and remembering the order in which the parts go. I saved this to my favorites.
Thanks for the video it helped a ton. But I found it easier to take two or three minutes and remove the six screws that hold the grill and remove it. Makes it much easier to mount the headlights.
It comes off as one piece but it its actually three pieces. They will stay together.
@ 3:20 I found that if it is very hard to get that piece out with your thumbs or a screwdriver, using a pair of needle nosed pliers and squeezing the black plastic piece works nicely.
@VictorKane115 you're welcome, thank you for checking us out.
Wow thanks for the video. I have a 96 ford explorer and was trying to figure out how to change the bulbs properly.
Driver side was a massive pain but this video helped a lot lol
We currently do not have an auto repair video on the 1993 Ford Explorer headlights. We'll keep this in mind if we ever need to make this repair in the shop. We do carry the replacement lights on our website. Here's a link to them. 1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/Ford/Explorer/-/-/1993?ATony
Wish I had a "prop" vehicle with all tabs and screws aligned perfectly like you have.....must be easy.
Great help! Seems like it should be fairly easy. This said of course, before I attempt to replace both sides with both complete set of housings. By far, it looks like one of the easiest change outs I have had to try. Thanks for the helpful video.
5 STARS!! I replaced my sons taillights and headlights with your videos. Great videos. Thank you!!
+Joanne Teik Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Thank you. Had a burned out headlight. My small little girl hands had some trouble getting the circle thingy back in place, but I did it. Yea me!
I find my small hands to come in handy at times and some times not so much :)
Straightforward and really helpful. Thanks
It works....But if you have large hands, it's challenging.
Is there a way to line up the fixtures like the originals were? The headlight appears to be more recessed into the grill than the parking light assembly.
Problem with my explorer is the part with the teeth with removing the headlight projector is stuck and it feels like is stuck so I canât remove my headlight projector and replace the bulb
I will be buying the headlight assembly for my 1998 Ford explorer Eddie Bauer thank you for the awesome video help me a lot I will continue being a customer thank you from Newport Beach California..đșđČ...
Thank you for the video, going to replace headlights on a 1997. :) This is a big help :)
Good luck just replaced mine
Great video thanks, What if I'm just replacing the bottom portion of the headlight?
It would have been handy to know that the cap holding the lamp to the car was a locking cap & not a screw cap- first push in then turn a quarter turn counterclockwise to loosen, We wasted 10 minutes trying to unscrew them. Otherwise very helpful
The headlights are fused together and can't be taken apart. The whole light would need to be replaced.
About to attempt this today. Battery in the way.
I'm trying to replace my headlight bulbs with new bright white bulbs. But I don't exactly know which one to buy
should i unplug the battery when i make these replacements?
Going to pop out my assembly and attempt a restoration of the lens before I buy new. Great video! Looking at my vehicle it seemed a bit daunting. You've made it look easy! Thank you for the video!
Thanks for watching Don. We have a really good deal on these lights. We offer free shipping and a lifetime warranty too. What typically happens with trying to restore them is that they tend to fog back up and become yellow again after a few months. The plastic degrades on them over the years. Here's a link to the headlights shown in the video if you would like to check them out. www.1aauto.com/headlight-pair/i/1alhp00054?CZcams&CZcams&ATony Hope this helps you out.
1A Auto Parts Wow, nice price on the replacement parts! You'll have my business when the time comes. Two things I wanted to add to your video: first thing is that I found it easier to get a squeeze on the lower adjustment holding things at the back by coming up from underneath with a longer set of needle nose pliers. The other is about getting to the lower front squeeze thing. If you remove a bit of the plastic that covers accessing the squeezy thing it makes it much easier to get in there with some needle nose pliers. Those are the two things I ran into on my 1999 Explorer XLT. Thanks again for your help.
Love you guys always save me bunch of time and money.
The adjusting screw may be stripped in the headlight housing. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Man.....this video helped me a 1000% yo... It saved me alot...Thanks a Mill.
What about a video for this car but an 02 Headlight Replacement
the battery is in the way on the other side.
Can you do a video for a 1993 explorer?
Great video, thanks for the help. I didn't buy my headlight from 1A Auto because I didn't know about it. I will be sure to check out 1A for my next purchase.
i happen to purchase these headlamp housings from you on eBay and worked out well for me, good quality and price and delivery and add the great instructional video makes all this a snap, seems the OEM housings fail rapidly as the heat from headlamp burns off the reflective chrome in the housing or maybe its also oxidizing rapidily and you lose a lot of brightness...ty
+soupercooper Thank you for your order. If you would like to leave us a review on Google it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to our reviews section. Have a great day! goo.gl/i5JFNY
actually after my install my story has changed, the worm gears on the adjustment screws do not work (they slip), and the fit wasnt perfect either, I had to make adjustments to get headlamp housing to fit in the slide track. this is not a fun project by all means,
+soupercooper Our headlights include a lifetime warranty on them. If there are any issues with performance or fitment please call our sales staff at 888-844-3393 and we can help you out.
soupercooper this totally sucks! Wish it was as easy as the video makes it out to be. Now getting rained on in the dark while my Hubcap sits inside watching a movie!
Thanks for posting this video it really helps to know what your doing before you do :)
I canât access the whole assembly. For some reason with all screws removed the headlight cover is so tight it wonât come out. Luckily I could work around that and access the bulbs.

He does not show you must remove or free the bottom of front grill to have room to pivot headlights into the opening. Once after you have this room at the bottom of lights I installed within 20 minutes. I had tried the night before without loosening the grill and it could not be done.
Muchas gracias, aunque no entiendo el inglés, es muy fåcil y pråctico
Thank you for the help!
It should be done in pretty much the same way.
And what am I to do when the bulb ring does not want to turn more than 1/16 of an inch and will not release?
Very helpful video!! Thanks so much for posting these!!
Thanks a lot! Much appreciated!
Mike thank you
you just save me a ton of time..
thanks again!
Never easy on a 95 that's not been touched! However I found it much easier to deal with if I removed the grille. That way 25 years of dust etc can be brushed away making the job both easier and cleaner.

Thanks for very useful video and greetings from Poland!
Hey, greetings from the USA! Thanks for watching the video, we're glad it was helpful for you. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
just got a 93 explorer. do you sell the white brackets that keep the headlights in place? this explorer hit a deer and both sides are broken! they had duct on the corners of each light housing to keep them in place!
+Michael Coombs We carry the replacement headlights with the brackets on our website. Here is a link to them. Hope this helps you out. www.1aauto.com/1993-ford-explorer-headlight-assemblies/y-mo-c/1993-225-19?CZcams&CTA%20Comment&
No.... where do you find the parts to purchase? If you open your eyes, yes they should be there. how about a part number for the 2 different adjusters? Do you sell those?
+Devin Stout HI Devin, we do not sell just the adjusters for these lights
Can anyone who has done this replacement tell me what direction the driver's side main headlamp bulb's grey fastener turns to unlock it? The passenger side came off counter-clockwise, but the driver's side fastener on my bulb is stuck and I cannot get it off. I'm afraid to muscle it, or use a tool because the plastic is dry and brittle.
Thanks in advance.
Can you do a video on how to adjust the headlight aim on this explorer. I have a 2000 explorer and I need to adjust them
+Corvettes 706 We currently do not have an auto repair video that covers this particular repair. We will keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. 1aauto.com
I second that
What about fog light bulbs?
I'm about to go try this right now! Thanks for this video!
what about for a 91? im having some trouble
Thank you for this AWESOME info/video!!!
I will bookmark your site and pass it along to my friends.
Thank you!
Thank you
On that last adjuster to remove at 4:30, any advice on when its stuck? I cannot remove either side.
+Ian Nelson You may want to see if that little tab shown in the video is moving up far enought to release it for you. Hope this helps you out.
A 12mm socket will fit over the rear of the adjusters. When you get the socket on and wiggle it around a bit, it'll compress the clips and the adjuster should slide right out. It's kind of tricky to get the socket back there and on the round clip, so make sure to tie some fishing line to it in case you drop it.
helped alot thanks
Thank you thank you thank you!
Thanx for making this vid, its gonna be a great helpđđ»đ
thanks! i know i can do this myself, these video are great to have.
so where do I find the adjustment parts? can't find them anywhere.
+Devin Stout The adjusters for the main beam should be on the back of the headlights. If any of our viewers need to replace their headlights, we carry the replacement set shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to them, we also offer free shipping on all orders in the US www.1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/Ford/Explorer/1ALHP00054?CZcams&CTA%20Comment&ATony
What the tool to adjust them
I couldnât get the old bulb out.

Nice
+ANCIOLA 11 Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Wat about 2002
This is getting aggravating how do you get the headlight back in its not lining up properly
There should be an adjusting screw on the back of the headlight. If you turn it the headlight will go up and down. It's easier to do this with the headlights on pointed at a wall, preferably 25' away, so you can see the beam move. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Same not the adjustment weâre talking about lining it up to get it in
Youâre not telling me enough
+John Wells The full instructions are written out on the website if you need more information. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for checking us out Joe. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
@isitasmith Thank you for watching our video. We offer great deals on headlights for many different types of vehicles on our website 1aauto.com
Save yourself big headaches and remove the grill first. It will save you much time and aggravation.
+rick pavek Thanks for sharing the tip!
I don't care that your hair was in the way. You made up for it. I'm glad you get right to work vs spending a lot of face time in the camera. We don't need to see your dog, kids, long unnecessary flashy music
This is not accurate. That ''clip" doesn't release at all. It is completely lodged to the headlamp.
+Bill Niemann Thanks for the feedback!
Fuc! Thanks man!
Can't turn clamp locks so that I am able to use needle nose pliers to depress tabs to release the old headlights. Once again, a waste of time and money due to another vague video that shows little instruction. Would like to see this guy change them since it's so damn "easy".
