      They may have created it. Similar to candied bacon

      I'm from bulacan,Philippines where chicharon was imported I would say caramelized sweet chicharon isn't a bad idea but salty chicharon is the best

      I am Filipino and in Davao or Cotabato where I came from, caramelized chicharron does exist. Idk in other provinces.
