    Yes these are legends in the Netherlands, they are probably the biggest band we had.
    Sadly i have to say "had" because the lead guitarist (golden Gibson guitar) was diagnosed with MS a few years ago, the band decided to call it quits then.
    Fun fact few people are aware of, up till that point they were probably the oldest rock band still active in the world.
    Some will say "that has to be wrong, must be the Rolling Stones" who were founded in 1962, so yes.. old, the Golden Earring(s) was founded in 1961 and called it quits in solidarity in 2021.
    It's a shame they wont be performing anymore, but we got all those albums to remember them by, truly a great band.

    • @gfimadcat
      @gfimadcat Před 4 měsíci

      There's still plenty of super talented musicians around, but they don't make it to mainstream media at all, because they don't fit the image, or the demographic, or they don't sell., or they're just weird, or they're too "risky" to promote. So... they're still there. But you have to go looking for them these days...

    IMHO Dutch music often doesn't get the recognition it deserves . I think it may be because the majority of Dutch bands over the years have sung in English and I sometimes doubt whether people know they even come from Holland .
    From FOCUS and GOLDEN EARRING and SHOCKING BLUE in the late 60s / early 70s and in GE's case well in to the 80s . Then from the 90s onwards with THE GATHERING , AFTER FOREVER , DELAIN and on to the present with EPICA - and of course FLOOR JANSEN Dutch Rock and Metal has made an immense ( but often sadly forgotten ) mark on the world

Their history goes back to 1961 when I was just a young child, epic is what they became on an international scale. Always exciting on stage and super drum solo here by Cesar Zuiderwijk. Yes Radar Love is one of the best road trip songs.
    Yes their drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk is good, so good that he had been asked if he would replace Keith Moon, I heard.
    I think the bassist is absolutely fantastic. He is not the front man, but lies in the background and lays down an absolutely fantastic groove with the drummer. Also believe to have heard if he wanted to play with Jimi Hendrix as well as one of Steve Harris from Iron Maiden sources of inspiration.
    The first time I saw and heard Golden Earring was as a warm-up for the Who in Copenhagen in 1972, where he gave a bass solo that was absolutely fantastic.

    Broke my heart the day the Cassete Player in my old 68 International Scout ate my favorite Cruzing Tape, beyond Repair, that started with none the less then This Great Classic, of course it was not a Classic yet, way back then. That cassete soundtrack made the summer nights last forever. Where are they Now?

    Like others, have been listening to them since this came out in the 70s, I saw them back in the day and man, what a great band! Supremely talented musician, the album that Radar Love comes from, Moontan, is an all time classic and 4 of the 5 songs still get played in concert. This song also had incredible versions in videos from Ahoy 2006 and from Rock Palast early 80s. Also try Vanilla Queen from the later, unreal version, they just give me chills to this very day, a very great band from the 70s/80s. Enjoy! 🎶🎸🎤🎹🎶

    I have just Subscribed and 51 years late or later that, partially, makes up for me, getting the date of a London Concert wrong in 1973 and turning up to pay on the door with 3,000 others in Croydon, South East London the week after they had already performed.. The poster, as we arrived, told us that they were on the PREVIOUS week and we never did get to ever see them.
    I don't think my best mate as ever truly forgave my stupidity and it was a very silent journey home after the wasted journey and he never let me organize any more Gigs....LOL

    If you want to hear a dutch band that had two hits that were like night and day? Check out the George Baker Selection, first hit is little green bag, known from Tarantino reservoir dogs. Second hit is una paloma blanca a song I hate with a passion 😂

    They were a awesome band, and they always made sure everyone got the attention, not just the singer or the guitarist. Used to go them with my dad every year. Back in the early 2000's the Drummer would do amazing solo's were he would do all kind of tricks and performed a real show for up to 15 minutes. At later concerts the bass player would start this song off with a long solo. Sadly George (the white haired guitarists) go ALS so they stopped as band. They always had the mentality, we play till one of drops, they would never find another person to replace them, just them or no Golden Earring at all. They also broke off their American tour, even though that would have launched them to a much bigger fame, cause George got homesick. They just all decided to go back home then and perform in the Netherlands and other places close by. They always stood together and that is what made them so awesome and why you see them enjoy performing so much. They also lived for live performance, they hated recording albums, they rather played for their fans on stage.
