- To become an astronaut you need to be at the top of your game - physically and mentally, but not everyone at the top stays at the top.
"Lisa Marie Nowak (née Caputo; born May 10, 1963) is an American aeronautical engineer and former NASA astronaut and United States Navy officer. Nowak served as naval flight officer and test pilot in the Navy, and was selected by NASA for NASA Astronaut Group 16 in 1996, qualifying as a mission specialist in robotics. She flew in space aboard Space Shuttle Discovery during the STS-121 mission in July 2006, when she was responsible for operating the robotic arms of the shuttle and the International Space Station. In 2007, Nowak was involved in a highly publicized incident of criminal misconduct for which she eventually pled guilty to felony burglary and misdemeanor battery charges, resulting in her demotion from captain to commander, and termination by NASA and the Navy.
Born in Washington, D.C., Nowak graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1985. She was assigned to VAQ-34 at Naval Air Station Point Mugu, California, where she flew the EA-7L Corsair and ERA-3B Skywarrior. She earned a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering and a degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. In 1993 she was selected to attend the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. After graduation, she remained at Patuxent River, flying in the F/A-18 Hornet and EA-6B Prowler. During her Navy career she logged over 1,500 hours in more than 30 aircraft and was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.
In February 2007, Nowak was arrested in Orlando, Florida, after she accosted and pepper-sprayed Colleen Shipman, a U.S. Air Force captain romantically involved with astronaut William Oefelein, who had been in a relationship with Nowak. She was released on bail and initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included attempted kidnapping, burglary with assault, and battery. Subsequently, her assignment as an astronaut was terminated by NASA. In 2009, Nowak agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to charges of felony burglary of a car and misdemeanor battery. She remained a Navy captain until the following year when a Naval Board of Inquiry voted unanimously to reduce her in rank to commander and to discharge her from the Navy under other than honorable conditions after 25 years of service. As of 2017, it was reported that she was working in the private sector in Texas."

I don't think that NASA can "beef up it's screening process" anymore than it already is. It's probably one of the most intense screening processess there is. There's always going to be a person here or there that ends up having problems down the line. They could have a mental illness show up that they've never had before, and definitely didn't have during the screening process. Or certain stresses that build up and cause a mental breakdown. Plus a lot of "normal" people end up having strange abnormal reactions when it comes to love, or what they think is love. They could fight in a war, have no serious issues at all, but then have someone break up with them and they go of the deep end.

Stress and heartbreak hurt everyone. I am in the legal system and have gone through literally thousands upon thousands of cases like this in the Appalachia region of the US. Wild nonsense nobody expects - for seemingly no reason, until you look closer. People who are lawyers like me, doctors, scientists, pilots like you, etc, tend to get up on our high horse and think we are above "those", the poor people, and that we have earned our place, and know ourselves - but the truth is we are no different.
The only difference is that people like us don't get as externally stressed, find our dreams fulfilled, keep our loved ones close, or any combination of things common criminals do not have the privilege of at all. We'd like to think we have worked hard for what we have or deserve it, but we've also never seen the inside of a coal mine, we haven't lost friend or family there. We're lucky, for the most part.
But when we don't get lucky and life gets shitty? Everyone does the same stupid things.

I can understand why, she was an overachiever, never really failed at anything and she viewed herself as a high quality woman. @@Kingmeri , if you're talking about the astronaut Lisa Nowak, she attended USNA and The NPS. Not Brown.
What’s your point……
There are as many narcissistic egomaniacs hatched at the Naval Academy as anywhere else, and perhaps MORE…
I live in Annapolis and have met and talked to alot of those kids. The USNA degrees are "lite" versions of equivalent degrees offered in normal colleges, with a healthy side of Phys Ed. The kids are mostly connected as admission is related to getting sponsored by a state senator. As a group, they have the typical "yes sir, no sir" military persona and a need to be part of something bigger than themselves. No creatives in that group, just "work hard play hard" sons and daughters of narcissists. They are set for life.
Hey man, just gotta say you are my favorite youtube narrator when it comes to breaking down historical events. The artwork kicks ass. Youre respectful in the "last moments" series and hilarious in basically everything else. I appreciate it. I look forward to new uploads from you as much as vice grip garage lol. Keep up the excellent work man
Holy Shit that was quite a ride. Thanks for the video you got yourself a new sub.
Kudos on the high level of restraint you demoed in making this video. I couldn't have done it.
Dude, we love you and your work. Don't push yourself too hard. Take a break if needed. That's how you keep it up in the long run.
Had to subscribe! Absolutely brilliant 😂
“Apologise for causing misunderstanding”. ??? There was no misunderstanding. There was premeditated violence. There was pain and fear. And, there were plans for kidnap and murder (with a spot of naked bondage before the final act). But there was no ‘misunderstanding’.
Words have become meaningless these days, thanks to lawyers and PR types.
Great video like always and the animation getting really good!
My thoughts exactly
Your efforts are much appreciated 👏👏👏👏
Okay first time seeing one of those guys videos I'm definitely subscribing you are hilarious. People should understand that if you want to have a successful CZcams channel or twitch stream you got to entertain people.
I`ve just discovered this channel 10 mins ago, and I`ve never seen one that in the same time informs me and makes me laugh. Good job! 🤣 Subbed!
This was top notch storytelling of true events. Facts with such brilliant humor and that whimsical voice. I vaguely remember her from the coverage of the space shuttle missions but had no idea about her romp with Cosmonova😅😂 Yet Olf still ‘made out’ Thank you for that history lesson.
Nice Fallout New Vegas reference with the two bears high fiving, o see what you did there 😂
Also great attention to detail in story and art. I adore your work ❤
Qxir makeing a fallout new vegas refrence was the last thing i expected when i woke up to day
Well aint that a kick in the head
Pleasing to my brain whenever someone not talking about video games makes a new vegas reference
Any chance someone could explain this to someone who heard of Fallout but never played it? :)
@ChefGoreb In the beginning there is a rorschach test with ink blots that look like 2 bears hi fiving. He referenced that.
I've always seen it as two cats high fiving, but two bears does seem more appropriate for new vegas.
Two Bears high fiving 12:15
Nice New Vegas reference haha
Came straight to the comments for this
I always selected "man with a beard" and I dunno why
Fun fact, Lisa Nowak and the crew of STS - 121 visited the National Space Centre in Leicester, UK to give a talk. The pictures of all the crew are outside still, with handprints.
you've gained yourself a new subscriber
Thank you for your hard work Qxir
Omg this was hilarious! I’m happy this came up in my algorithm! I will be subscribing for sure! “Cosmic Casanova!” 🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Ditto! 😂
“This Guy!” *scoff-chuckle*
“Comic Casanova over here,” and the tone in which is stated it-was certainly my favorite part too. 7:00
Love your accent and humour … best wishes
What can I say.. Love makes people crazy.
You hard work is appreciated. This is one of your best videos.
This has to be the most absurd situation a NASA employee has ever been involved in.
I would argue the mystery floating turd in the moon orbiter is more absurd.
@@BastuGubbari would like to know more about this
What about in 2018 when an astronaut on the ISS went through a metal breakdown and drilled a hole through a wall to leak air out.
I’d argue giving birth to jack black while assisting in Apollo 13 is moreso
@hugiilopez2111 I thought the hole was on a poorly built Russian shuttle that had been connected to the ISS at the time?
Love your drawings
Set the tone
Good video. Good job.
