I used the reference to the love of God to highlight the ridiculousness of such a comparison, but even in the realm of romantic or familial love such as the love of a mother for a child, comparing that love to being a skill just doesn't make sense to me. The bond of family and that of romantic couples suggests a much more indepth relationship built not just by skill but by intrinsic factors that supercede skill and are far more intangible and even mystical than we are often able to understand and appreciate. Just listen to the mountains worth of poetry that has been written paying tribute to the mystical nature of love. Such things are just not done for attraction. This is why I find this statement misleading because just a little bit of thought into the nature of love vs that of attraction tells me that the mystery of love far surpasses that of attraction. Learning to eliminate ego is an important skill upon which deeper more sustainable love can be built, but that alone is not the key to love anymore than saying the right pickup lines is the key to building attraction. There's so much more to it than that. This is why I say that reducing love to being a set of skills compared to the mystery of attraction is so disingenuous and just doesn't make good sense.
