Thank you!- for doing a review on the 420d, rather than another M440i review, which only a fraction of people will be buying. Great to learn more about one of the more accessible models.

It's a tricky car to photograph alright. People get used to the grilles, and with a number plate across them they don't look so bad. The rear quarter panel is a bigger design issue, as it makes the rear wheels look tiny. ^Dave

For the first time, in this colour scheme, I can actually say that I like it. I’d eagerly awaited the M440i, so I’m happy that I’m finally at peace with that snout. (Not loving it- just at peace with it)

As a current 4 series GC owner for 5 years now, I like the looks - definitely looks better in person, and it’s something different. The keyboard warriors were never buying one anyway - it’s like bemoaning a new Ferrari 😏

I love the grill, I notice other brands going the same way, so maybe this is a new trend we have to get used to. When seeing a 4 coupé in real it is a very luxurious car, good rear visibility, the interior is excellent, they did a great job. The frame less windows are amazing but you need to get used to opening doors and not touching glass :D going to order a portimao blue and cognac interior tomorrow and with the option that gives a black grill. Only decision left to make is diesel vs petrol but I guess it all depends the distances you make. So much in love with this car !

update to help potential buyers, since I now have it and it is just an amazing car, also technology wise it is a really big upgrade. Harman Cardon rocks!! Touchscreen i love it. Options that you can decide what it does and how fast excellent. I have taken all possible options for safety so it auto corrects in every way. Sometimes a bit too much but that is because I forgot to use signal indicators. :D in cruise control mode, it adapts speed very well, on any speed, even recognizes signs that were added, it reads them and adapts. Red lights though are still a human intervention. But... It breaks if the car in front of you breaks, it speeds up if you are too going too slow by itself. The on-screen display really rocks and when using GPS gives you very clear lane instructions which I just love. Amazing thing and very happy. Only two downsides but minor ones. If you want to open your door, you need a lot of space and if you park, well consider it is 4,7m. Enjoy! I sure am :) Every day ! ps: addicted to dashcam button haha
What else, i took adaptive suspension but I seem to switch back to sport anyway every time. Seems like it I am too much into sport mode. Ok there is a difference in feeling but I hardly ever switch to it so I shouldn't have taken it. It deals rather ok with roadbumps, just don't go 50km/h over them. but I did some at 40km/h and it can handle it.
If you are wondering if it normal that the car starts cooling down extremely now and then, like blowing hard, yes it is. It only lasts like 10 minutes. Not sure why it does that. but interesting. It seems to dispense all heat.
In my experience the voice commands never understand anything you ask but ok
      Score: 86/100
(I had 4 bmw 3 series and an X1 and by far this one wins in everything but ok, kind of a different car... )

I've heard the grill is optional. You can have it replaced by a chipboard or fibreglass alternative.

I love the overall design especially the front & the super design of the grill, BMW had lost their “Design Way” for a while and now they’re back with this design. I wilder if they’ll bring out a four door version as they did with the predecessor?

The grill grew on me, so much so that I've just bought the 430d in black of course. BMW went big and bold with the grill and I admire that, their competitors pretty much kept going with the samey grill designs but just bigger (yeah you Audi, boring).

Coming from someone like me who owned a total of 7 BMWs in his lifetime, a car with an atrociously fugly grill like that will never belong on my driveway. Thanks, but NO.
BMW is turning into a victim of it’s marketing department trying to keep up with the trend and what other manufacturers are doing. You don’t buy a BMW because the front end looks like a Hyundai’s or an Audi’s or an F 150. Just keep it original, it’s that simple.
