    The reason for putting the grill on the 4 series compared to the 3 series was so that the 4 series would become distinguishable. They didn’t want the 4 series to be a “3 series with 2 doors”

      @@manoszervas9613 I have seen it and no, did not change my mind. Unique? Yes the grill is unique, but still ugly. The rest of the car could just as well come out from Korea, and from the side it has lines that is similar to a Mustang. Mustangs are ok, but I would not want a BMW that has copied design from a Mustang, and korean cars, sorry. BMW have messed up their designs many times, and this is one of them. Look at the classic E30 from the 80`s, a fantastic design, what on earth has happened??
      History will of course judge these cars, I predict that in 20 years when these cars start to become classics the price on the older model will be much higher.
      I also doubt that this model will sell well compared to the old 4-series that was always well received, sold in good numbers and we all agreed they looked great, not only on paper but also in reality, no controversy at all...

      I have a 2019 430i Gran Coupe and it's still beautiful after 5 years. I would love the new interior, but can't get past that pig snout grille. I removed those hidious Pirelli P7 tires and replaced them with a radically quieter Michelin MXV4s. I know they are not run-flats, but now my car is very quiet even at 100kph.

  • @truxton1000
    @truxton1000 Před rokem +2

    Some people say the old model look “dated”. Well I don’t agree, but even if it did a new and “modern” design is not any better because it is new, as if the new and more modern design is a failure it’s not any better. It’s a bit like saying that Jaguar with the predecessor of the E-type made the E-type look “dated”, well the E-type was and is the much better design, and history judge it like that. Same as history will judge the F32 to be a much better design than this Mustang-BMW.

    For me the front grill on the 2021 doesn't look bad at all. The problem is that if you live in a state that mandates front plates, the plate goes right in the middle of the grill which ruins it. In effect the smaller grill with the plate underneath is a better look.

    Talking about tech - when you remove all the design aspects, what does the new version actually bring in terms of functionality? Bigger / more screens, everything touch, no more physical buttons.. This is a step back, I think. What do you actually get in return? I would still choose the old gen because there is no real reason to go for the new one, except taste / fashion. Engine is also the same (B48).

    • @alexorton4583
      @alexorton4583 Před 3 lety +2

      @@SamCarLegion yes, new one is heavier, bigger and slight taller - it could be factor. Also, driving bigger cars you may not feel speed but I don't think that's the case. Perhaps 2020 430i is more aerodynamic? Also, tires may be factor - some tires can make your car slower.
      BTW. I'm not suggesting you are lying. I believe you, but i'm trying to figure out why new 2021 430i would feel slower. Maybe different xdrive system?

    The new model does not look good compared to the old which had a more clean/precise and classic design language, the new model looks like a badly designed Mustang, random lines, half finished.. That the new model is not as sporty to drive, feels slower, has bigger screens inside which I absolutely hate, more difficult to access the rear seats, is heavier, electronic handbrake. It`s larger, heavier, taller. It`s not the first time BMW design a car that is inferiour to the older model. Where did the Hofmeister kink go?? The rear fender looks like a cheap feminine Korean design, and the grill?? No, I much prefer the old design, that the new car is quieter and feels more stable on the road is irrelevant as the old model is still excellent in those respects. I drove recently 1600 miles in two days in my 2019 430i, got out tired yes as it was two days without sleep but what a brilliant long distance cruiser, good seats and a very good package overall.

      Only people with no clue of design would say the new looks better, but a lot of people always prefer the new regardless of what I looks like, for no other reason that it’s new.

      @@truxton1000 that argument could stand for people who say the older one looks better. Each to their own. The fact is that now the older models look dated as all cars regardless of the manufacturer will be going this way in the future. In every design there comes an evolving replacement this is inevitable so love it or not it’s here to change. You don’t have to by it so just stick with the outdated version

      @@danceallurlife3508 You are wrong, a bad design is a bad design regardless of age, the F32 was a good design from day one in 2014, and the new 2021 model is a bad design regardless how old it is. You must be a person that think the New model is always better regardless how ugly it is, says something about how you cannot buy good taste.

    I thought this new design was hideous when it came out, some say it would “grow on you”. Well the more I look the worse it gets, it’s a VERY bad design. Looks like a smaller version of the Mustang, and not a very good one either. Only people with no aesthetic vision would say it’s a good design. Well if it was a Ford it would be acceptable, but NOT as a BMW. I am 100% sure when this car gets old enough to be a classic it will be regarded much lower in price than the F32, as that was a well designed car.

      @@truxton1000 not imo. They refined the design. Softened it. Kind of like the Z8 bmw. The design language isn’t even Close bro what are you saying… I think it looks good, that’s why I bought one. I like the headlights, taillights, 3/4 view, the front end looks odd stock because of the grill color, the silver dashes make it look cheap. In canada they offer a M performance variant that has a Carbon Fiber Kidney Grill and gloss black mesh finish, looks 10 times better. I was originally buying an M340i but when I got to the dealership I picked the M440i as I tend to like coupes better.
