      I'm trying to understand the process of yours of your thinking. So at the beginning of the process, you browse for things that you wanna have just out of interest or do you actually have the intention of buying them? and if you have the intention of buying them, do you arrive at the very last moment before you actually need to perform the purchase and then you suddenly think clearly and decide that you don't really need it now so there's no point in buying it?

      @HarukiMiyazawi Před 3 lety +11

      @@itayifergan it all starts with a possibility... Like, there's a chance that I might need this if this or that happens... Or simply someday.... And then I'm like, what's the best for different price ranges? What are the pros and cons of each.... Then I get to those conclusions and end up satisfied... Don't buy anything in that moment.... Sometimes when the scenario I was thinking of before doing the research comes true, I proceed with the actual purchases.

    INTP - Exploring the possibilities of backpacks is a good example. I spent six months studying backpacks before buying one. I scoured the internet for backpack companies, backpack reviews, I'd read all the feedback (comments) on Amazon reviews for all backpacks that interested me, I went to 10 different stores and studied the brands and the features of the backpacks they carried. I watched youtube videos on travel, organization, cruise ship travel, and anything related to backpacks. I laid out my typical carry on supplies on my bed. I laid out my typical day at the office items next to that. Then I bought one bag. Once I used it for 3 months and knew it was the bag for me, I bought a second because I hate it when something breaks or wears out and they stop making the exact thing you wanted. Plus, I can keep my carry on bag packed and ready, save for a few items I use daily. I enjoyed exploring the possibilities. However, backpacks are boring enough that eventually I had to just buy one because I ran out of things to research.

    As an ENFP I spent two weeks to find ... the "perfect" car
    Or days on Amazon or Etsy to get items I know I will really use and really like even a long time after purchasing them , or items that can be purposed for multiple tasks instead of getting loads of items filling my space , since I know I am not that good at organizing
    Compare it to my mum who's an ESTP she will instantly buy a new pan to the point of filling her kitchen with loads of different pans cuz she never knows when she my need a specific one for a specific purpose
    Many times I did spend time to get the item I thought I'll be using and it turned out to be still just a momentary desire , and I dislike having a house filled with stuff I'm not using or rarely using (my Te managing my Fi )
    She is right , often after all this time spent exploring, no purchase is done and I move to the next subject

    "The Introverted Intuitives will use the same backpack until it breaks" - Me, but with shoes. Seriously, my shoes were worn flat years ago, look pretty manky, the thing that goes around the lacing have come off and if I go through puddles, lets just say my socks are getting wet. But they're still useful for what I need them for so I still use them (and if I need to look presentable for whatever it is I'm doing, I have another pair which are slightly less comfortable but not unwearable. They do cut the back of my feet after too long though so I try to wear them as little as possible). This is me with anything really. I have very strong Ne, and i usually have trouble living in the now, the current moment, present, current minute, when that comes naturally to Se. Se knows how to live in the present. I am very curious, introspective, taking in whats around me, and storing it for information. If i visit somewhere, i will remember the place, and use it as a reference, seeing all of the possibilities. Im more of a theorizer rather than a Do-er. Se knows how to take action right away, while Ne says that they are going to do something, but they don't do it.

    Anecdotally, perhaps Ne -> Si may have explored to the point that if they do find the right one, once it breaks down, then they'd buy the same one over again (or even before then once it's proved its value). I do this all the time with shoes I love, or bags, or shirts. Tried and true. Inferior Si tends to be pretty neurotic, especially when an object is tied to a strong sensory impression/experience/feeling. ENFP here.

    Great insight. I'm savior Se and my roommate is savior Ne. We recently moved and have experienced this exact thing with acquiring and exploring. 🤣 he wants to keep everything that he has literally ever owned (including the packaging that his items come in). When moving in I realized I had a lot of unnecessary clothes, so I got rid of them knowing that I would want more eventually. We brainstorm together and when it comes time for action, he let's out a sigh and says "not today". And I end up doing it myself 😅 (which I don't mind. I'm energized by having something to do) I've developed 2 businesses moved to another country and back again. I've created action steps for his dreams because I really want to see him succeed the trouble is, he doesn't actually want to do it!
    He likes to cook and has thrown around the idea of starting a food truck. He wants it to be themed with potatoes. (Fries, baked etc) I said "great idea. Although cooking potatoes starting off might be tricky. Maybe try something that requires less finesse. How about a donut truck? You can perfect your own signature batter then create a donut of the week to keep it new and interesting?" He is stuck on potatoes. 🤣

This makes the Exploration-Acquisition divide hinge on whether OPe or OJe is the more convergent observation function. Guess which falls on which side, it should be very easy for you to get right.

    I am struggling with typing myself. I come out as INFJ on every test I do and I do really relate to that. I relate to what you say about Ni on your videos. But I also really relate to Ne. For example if I needed a new backpack I would do exactly as you have described Ne to do. And I do it with everything. Even holidays. I research so much I then feel like I've been and don't need to go! But if I buy something I literally keep it forever and feel relief that I don't need to get another for a while. My choices are always practical and quality driven. I research so hard because I want to make the right decision. The best decision. I went ten years without buying any clothes at all. I've recently updated my wardrobe. I still wear t-shirts from twenty years ago. No need to replace. They're fine. Lol. So does this sound more Ne or Ni?

    As a Ne dom.... Idk what to say, yeah you got us. But I think when we actually need something or convince ourselves we need smth, we kinda go to the Si way and just buy things in a hurry.
    The other day I went shopping bcs I needed boots, winter is coming, my boots are old, my sneakers aren't winter-appropriate, so I needed boots. Got in my car, went to a mall, and went to a few stores (I hate shopping btw) and just focused on boots, bcs I don't need anything else right?
    The funnier thing is that I didn't actually have to get boots THAT day, I could've seen my options in other malls, online stores, etc. But I set my mind on getting boots THAT day, so I had to get them THAT day. I still looked at the options (Ne) but in a bit of a hurry and just chose some that I liked and were in the price that I agreed with myself, so I got them without that much thought (Si).
    And this happens with other things. If I convince myself I need something, even if it's something really stupid and I don't really need it or I don't need it NOW, I still need to get it asap. Luckily for me, it's usually cheap things 😅
    I've been trying to figure out my husband's type and he actually had to buy a backpack recently... But I still don't know what kind of type he is. I know he is an intuitive type, but idk if Ne or Ni. Leaning more towards Ne, but Ni makes so sense as well. He's definitely the type to use things until they break, but is that bcs he sees so many options that he doesn't know what to get (Ne) or bcs he doesn't update the sensory (Ni) like u said? 🤔 I talked mostly about Dom vs Inf functions, but what would it look like if they were 2nd and 3rd? They would be more balanced in a way, no?
    Like..... Ni-Se (2nd and 3rd), someone would use a backpack almost until it breaks, but then buy a lot? Se-Ni, would they buy a lot of things but then use them all until they break? Si-Ne, would not give it much thought but at least look at some possibilities? Ne-Si I can ask a friend, maybe she can help me, but it would be more like, see all the possibilities, but then choose one without much thought? But in a more balanced way than a Ne dom, ofc. I would really appreciate the help on this, thank you 😅

  • @Lexx0787
    @Lexx0787 Před 2 lety

    I kinda do all of it, so I am a little bit confused. For example, when I want to buy something I will explore everything about the thing, read ton of reviews and finally make a decision to buy the best thing I found. If it is something that I am really interested in for that time being (for example, I was interested in perfumes for some time) I may think about another one for another occasion and again read everything and possibly even buy another one. But, in most cases I will only buy things if I need them for a longer period and try to decide which is the best one I found. I don't buy things just to have them, I generally always look for the purpose of the thing. On the other hand, I bought a car in such a way that when a friend's friend was selling one I started to think that it could be a good idea. Before that I didn't intensely think about getting a car, but rather thought about the situation as if it is some kind of fate. And I did look at alternatives, but somehow the fact that it is someone I "know" was good enough (of course, I did some checkups with a mechanic). But, I didn't explore all the possibilities in that situation. Third situation. My soccer shoes which were the best got ruined so I had to buy new ones. I did a lot of exploration but ended buying three pairs. First ones I bought weren't good fit and I don't want to wear them anytime ever. After that I bought one pair for turf and one for indoor and I think I will use them until they get ruined again. I think all of this also depends on how much money do you have. If a can afford only one pair of shoes I will choose the best ones and use them for any occasion. If I have more money, when the need comes I will explore all the possibilities and buy five pairs if needed for various situations. Sorry for the long comment and please feel free to express your opinion on which function I use more.

    Hahaha! Lots of items in my online shopping cart and they stayed there forever!!!! I always search for other same items in the shopping app, looking for better deals or better product... I always tell myself I will check them out next month... but I never check them out because I found another thing that I thought is better than the ones in the cart. So I add those new items in the cart and tell myself I will check them out... until the next month comes and it becomes a cycle.
    When I decide to check out or pay something, especially those I really want/need, I always have this feeling of backing out or feeling unsure of my decision...a thought comes to me that what if there is something better, I might regret my purchase. Even when buying groceries online, it takes me a long time to pay because I keep reviewing my items if I forgot something to add ("missing info" feels).

    i think i relate more to se, if i want a backpack ill just buy the one that looks good, i wont search for long for reviews, pros and cons, or specif things that i might think before buying one, i think thats why i always do the worst choices, i get annoyed if i think of much possibilities for long. Plus when i see that another backpack is getting popular, i just get bored of the one i just bought and want to buy another one, and another and another, (im not talking abt the backpack metaphor on the second paragraph btw)

    We all buy things - regardless of type. Se users and Ne users love to buy things due to their Fi auxiliary function or Fe child function.
    Ne users buy what they like but prefer buying unique items. Look at the character Holly from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. She buys unique things for her NY city apartment and she buys Tiffany jewelry and can dress with class or very unique. It all depended on her second function more than her firsr. She named her cat Cat. She wanted to be different. Her vice as an ENFP is depravity. She hated the thought of having not enough money she dated rich men to buy things for her.
    Se users buy only what they have always liked or what their friends have bought. They mostly buy things because they want what others (especially those whom they admire) have. If their friend buys a certain blouse and their second function likes it too then they are buying it. I remember wanting Champion sweatshirts because others had them.
    I am an ISFP who is high in Se and I hold onto things I like but I do buy multiple of what I like. Sometimes I can be like ESFPs and want to buy things that others have. I can become interested in things because others like it too.
    Se doms don't normally know what they like till they see if others like it too. Se users tend to like what is popular. ESFPs will buy a lot of bright colored stuff like they are drawn to pink. ESTPs and ESFPS love to shop - ESFPs shop more thi.
    My mom is an ESTP. She loves to buy anything with cardinals on it. Maybe that is due to both Se and Fe child. Se dom and Fe child function is all about experiencing things like a child. My mom also loves Minnie Mouse and Tweety bird. She never knows how she feels but loves to live life in the moment, go against rules she finds stupid and thinking for herself not giving a darn what other people think. She is a true ESTP. She reminds me of Madonna and Angelina Jolie.
    My niece is an ENFP who loves to buy things she finds interesting or likes because she likes it not because others have it. It is an Fi auxiliary function or an Fe child function to buy things you like. Ne users will buy a Coach pocketbook or Tiffany jewelry because they like those things not because others have those things.
    ESFPs don't know what they like right away till they see what others have - especially what people they like have. If their friends or movie stars they like have it they got to have it.

    Are you people really going to take advice about the difference between Se and Ne from an INTJ who uses Ni and hardly ever uses Se? Ni users don't know what all Ne users do. Sorry but I know a lot of ENFPs who love to shop and will buy multiple backpacks that are different like a Mickey Mouse pumpkin backpack and a Captain America backbpack because their vice is depravity. Anyone with Fi as their second function or Fe as their third function enjoy buying things. An ENFP female will buy Minnie Mouse ears at Disneyland and say she is a mouse because she loves to live in fantasy land due to Ne. ESFPs will buy things that are popular or colorful like all ESFPs love bright colors - probably because they have such a bright cheerful personality. ESTPs and ENTPs love to shop as well.
    By the way, I gave this video a thumbs down because it is inaccurate. Ne and Se users love to shop when they have Fi as their auxillary or Fe as a child function. Ne has nothing to do with not acquiring things it has to do with expanding on ideas and looking at the world thru imagination that is how it is different from Se. My niece is an ENFP who calls people unicorns and she loves to shop because depravity is the vice of an ENFP.
    Sorry but I would rather listen to CS Joseph who is an ENTP and thus uses Ne. He knows ENFPs are out to acquire things while at the same time expanding on ideas.
