Never stop girl. You're one of the few booktubers who call out the sexist shit they read in books and I really appreciate it. If I know a book is sexist beforehand, I wouldn't be disappointed while reading it or remove it from my TBR. Thank you for your honesty.

Sexism in sci-fi is so prominent and ridiculous. I find it to be more pathetic/funny than offensive. It does hurt the books immensely though and makes characters damn near impossible to relate to. I just read Armor by John Steakley and there was a scene where the main character gave a woman a black eye and bloody nose while sleeping with her and she had no problem with it. I don't consider that sexist writing because it's so stupid that I can't even equate it with real life. Best line of the book: "Leclere was pretty. Not blonde, though."

  • @tash.manian

I don't know why people are hating on the Red Rising series. Sure, it has 'some' similarities to Hunger Games but that was not the intention of the book. I think the space war was so amazing and dramatic and although the main character is slightly overrated, I feel like he had matured so well in the next books. But, it really is up to you if you want to read the second or third books, it's hard to just pick it up if you're not that interested. 😊 But I love the whole series.
Also, it was his wife who died. 😆

So I LOVE Sanderson and really do not like the Reckoners because of the main character and it does not get better and I found this ending to be super week compared to what I am use to from him. And I have read all of the Lightbringer series and I feel like the sexist descriptions get better but I tend to accidentally glaze over descriptions often cause I am not a visual reader, I do know that Kip does mature and in books 3 and 4 I was way less annoyed with how he viewed the world and himself. I loved the Red Rising series. Yes, there are definite similarities to The Hunger Games but the rest of the series is way different. Please read book 2! If you're not sold at that point then you're probably just not a fan.

I've read the Scythe series and I loved the second book so much I read The Toll almost inmidiately carrying great expectations about it's ending which ultimately.... were not fulfilled :( All in all, I think that as a whole the series are great and you should finish it but The Toll it's the weakest book of the three for sure.

The first two and the fifth Murderbot books are my favourites. I liked 3 and 4 but the others were better. The fifth is a full length novel but the one coming out next year is another novella.
Also I hated Red Rising and I only ever hear people saying how much they loved it.

ugh Im half way through black prism and honestly I wish I had read reviews before i started but now feel too invested to not finish it. I agree on the sexism and honestly the character of Gavin annoyed the shit out of me. Seemed like a narcasistic self insert mr perfect character with all the female characters drooling over him.

Just for the ones I've read!
-We can do this, Emily, we'll finish reading The Stormlight Archives in 2045.
-Children of Ruin was disappointing, imo, still good but almost pretty much a copy of Children of Time in structure and everything, except that this time it's octopus.
-I liked Murderbot, but not enough to continue the series
-I loved Red Rising, but the second book and beyond were by far better than the first book as it moves into space opera and military sci-fi!
-If you've seen on my review on Riyria Revelations, I was REALLY disappointed with Theft of Swords, but I must say that I suggest you continue. The series continuously gets better, the last omnibus is still one of my favorite conclusion to a series
-Lightbringers... ah this is a tricky, I enjoyed the series, but your complaints are valid. I feel sad seeing the comments on your reviews actually, so much anger over your opinion, it's crazy. Anyway, I don't recommend you to continue this one, the fourth book might make you punch through six walls.

      - OMG I can't believe it's going to take that long but at the same time I'm sure BS can do it!
      - I'll definitely give the Riyria Revelations another shot since I have the next ones on my shelf but I'm in no rush.
      - I really want to at least give a shot to book 2 but if I hate it I won't read more XD

Drop the reckoners if you don’t like it. Sanderson said it so themselves, if you don’t like his books, you don’t have to read them. No need to push yourself. Enjoy yourself with books you want to read. Plus it’s not a cosmere book, so if you’re really not into it, skip it. you’re not really missing out on any cosmere info. No loss. I suggest you read the books you want to read, drop those you’re hesitant to continue. There are way too many books out there to and too little time to be wasting it on a book you’re on the fence with continuing. Anyway, rhythm of war is coming out sooooon

If you continue with Stormlight and end up reading Rhythm of War way late, it may be a better option! Cos that way, it minimises your waiting time for book five AND you can consume all of the spoiler content that I assume will explode on the internet. :D Don't rush them, they're very worthwhile. And I reread the first three recently and blasted through them, they're even better on a reread!!! Basically, what I'm saying is, enjoy yourself. :D

I'd recommend The Dark Tower series, I know you did not like the first book, but the second book is way better, it is completely different from the first book, first book is more like long prolog to dark tower series, the second book is more representative of what the series is overall

I read the first book in The Magicians trilogy and found it pretty meh (I liked the concept, but the execution was not great). I kept going anyway and it's now one of my favourite series. I think each book gets better and the trilogy as a whole is fantastic. It does get weird, though hahaha

I wanted to say the same thing! Loved the concept, fantasy easter eggs and references, and although I liked it, I was a bit on the fence with the end of the first book and the beginning of the second one. It’s weird, but in a good way. The entire trilogy became one of my favorite fantasy stories. Lev Grossmann has also written a short story in the anthology “Dangerous Women”, it’s loosely connected to Magicians :)
