Thanks for this. The opening of a tale of two cities feels appropriate for our community at the moment it was the best of times it was the worse of times. It’s going be very difficult for all the obvious reasons. On the Posstive - our planet getting better, the outside world is the most autistic friendly it will be and something else for the first time NTs have had to experience a taste of our world being isolated from people, nervous about the outside world and other people. I hope it might build some empathy that was not there before to what our lives can be like.

I'm watching this at the end of 2022. For me the pandemic was a true eye opener and changed my life for ever. I agree with Dr Tony that the lockdown restrictions were very austism-friendly and probably helped a lot of people on the spectrum to remain calm. I loved the restrictions as this most closely resembled my ideal way of living! Unfortunately my work place at the local hospital turned into a war zone during the first year of the pandemic and I also lost my mother to Covid that year and couldn't travel overseas for her funeral. These events brought on a major breakdown last October but have since led me to the discovery that I'm on the spectrum. Suddenly my whole life makes sense.

Shopping today was the best shopping experience I have every had. It was quiet, organised, there were rules about us being 2m apart, not many people around, it was fantastic. I wish it wasn't under these circumstances but silver linings! It made me think about the autism hour some shops have 9-10 on a Sat in the UK and how this is like that on a bigger scale and how great it is, not that it's practical in normal city life to only have about 15 people is a shop at a time.
Thanks for the great video as always.

Thanks Dr Tony. As much as I'm certainly not a child, this was really helpful.I had a huge attack yesterday and my parents have a habit of following me around and demanding I explain why I won't calm down (I don't live with them normally and my symptoms seem to be becoming more visible as I get older). I will share this with them.

I can relate to your anxiety issues. I was close to a panic attack last night. I’ve become so tightly wound that I struggle to fall asleep, and even my usual calming rituals don’t work. I hope your anxiety improves and you can find some relief from it ❤️

I enjoyed this. At first the "person with autism" language rather than autistic person made me cringe a bit but was some really useful information. I came across this video by accident and it has helped me with some stuff I was thinking about yesterday so great.

One thing I would also say, and this is NOT about spoilt brats, but if you have an autistic child, or you are an autistic adult, if they are you have a preference of doctor, DO NOT force anybody to see a doctor with whom they are not comfortable. My mother did it to me, and it caused a serious ruction in our relationship.

Peter Wynn I hate that word brat, was called one once as a kid by a right bitch of a woman who had zero understanding of anyone with anxiety mental health etc! She changed her tune when a NT student put a protractor straight through her hand in class for calling them a brat!!!

I am not afraid of Covid-19, but I don't trust the news at all nor my government. What's hard for me is that my whole family is at home 24/7 now and that my routines have changed. I try to keep them up as good as I can, but it's still different. Gladly, I don't experience anxiety or so, but yes, my stress levels are higher than usual. I have stopped watching/reading news in 2005, because it stressed me too much and these day I know again WHY I stopped it...
But to be honest, I think being an Aspie helps me a lot with the quarantine. I'm not too interested in the world outside, so I don't miss it. Moreover, due to other health problems, I'm at home 24/9 since September. Some more weeks don't matter to me.

If i don't walk for at least an hour a day I have terrible depression and anxiety.
I hate people getting Covid but I love masks and everyone avoiding close contact. And no touching is awesome for me.

  • @515aleon

I'm an older Aspie, and am much more anxious than usual. I've had to stop watching/listening to certain people I used to like. Also OCD has very much increased. I am, however, quite able of telling that some of the news is sensationalized. I'm very happy that we still can walk the dog in a park or go for a hike (at least so far), as long as we stay 6 feet from others. Yep people in the US ARE hoarding tp and lots of other things. No crowds? We defintiely have them in grocery stores. Still very good video.

  • @strawsofftheneurodivergent4221

Skype or Zoom is PERFECT for Autistics. We do that in our community.
And do whatever you like to do at home, this is what autistics love to do anyway, follow your special interests, or start to learn a new craft (I wanted to get into leather working, but unfortunately my tools have not arrived yet) or you can finally read all the books you have on your mile-long list..
Actually the time spent at home, not having to go to work or not having to socialize, it is something autistics do naturally anyway.

CARNIVORE EPIPHANY 21 I agree been doing this for years! Teaching some of my own kids NT music teachers recently how to use zoom with my kids now that they can’t do face to face teaching. I like my interests and being an artist and crafter is perfect but I don’t want too much clutter as I need to make sales I am losing out now with this virus and pandemic and people frightened to even send them items!

I'm just really irritable but it helps a lot that I'm not being judged for my reclusive nature. Sorting out boxes definitely relieved the high stress of moving.

I have OCD. I have symmetry OCD. Can OCD be characterized as an extreme form of perfectionism where anything can lead to anxiety, fear, and distress? Could you be my friend? 🤗😘❤️Your charm is irresistible!!😁 You look energetic.💪 Now, the world can be a nasty crazy place out there, We cannot control what happens but we can use what happens. We have so much reserves of love and support inside us, if we can just remember that in our mind and move on.

Thank you to Dr Tony for this broadcast. I have Asperger's syndrome and I am familiar with long periods of anxiety. However, I am also very logical.
Try to remain logical during this time. I am doing as recommended by the government, washing my hands and social distancing. I am also eating fresh fruit and vegetables to keep me healthy and taking some exercise. I am making sure I read something to make me laugh every day. This is what I can do for my community. If you do get coronavirus, it may be very mild. You may also get postviral cough. I had seven weeks of postviral cough following an unknown infection in 2017. It is quite normal. If coughing is disturbing you, medicines containing a small amount of alcohol will help ease the problem. I hope this comment helps someone.
