Serbs are very warm and good people. I am slovene and was always welcomed there. Amzaing people, very kind and loving.

that is very interesting! krusevac is my hometown and I've never met a foreign person here before. whenever I even run into one on the street, I'm slightly taken aback, considering krusevac isn't really as popular or "flashy" as some other major cities.
i'd love to know what your experience has been like. how do my fellow townsmen treat you? does the language barrier set you back in any way? and most importantly, how do you like the food?

What a BLAST of USEFUL info Brad. I'm older and have been thinking of retiring in Serbia. Since I lived in Prague for nearly 15 years (working back and forth on a ship as a seaman) then I'm experienced. Everything you said had the details to make it work (and life is in the details). If you are about to visit Novi Sad I'll be glad to be your tour guide. Serbia is so divers country full of contrasts and different mentalities but people are generally very friendly towards foreigners. Serbia is close to all major European countries and flights to Egypt, Turkey, France, Germany, Moscow, Rome take 1 to 3 hours. Plenty of ski resorts around, 5 to 7 hours car ride to Greek or Adriatic coast make it really a good destination to work, live and enjoy life.
I just received a big surprise. I was reading the menu at Bagdala restaurace and noticed the similarity of Serbian language to Czech. Plus they have things on the menu I would like to try. WOW!

Sure, the language is almost identical but our Slivovitz is stronger than Czech's Slivovitz!

Kruševac is very very good city to live. Not so big, not even small, it has almost everything in it but in the other hands peoples are great which is most important fact. I know by visiting kruševac many many times.

The only problem is that Merima has been missing in Krusevac for a long while.
Serbia is finally beginning to improve its rail system. Agree the new Belgrade-Novi Sad high speed is one of the best Ive ridden in Europe(October 2022). And yes they are rebuilding the line in both Hungry and Serbia for an improved Budapest-Belgrade higher speed route. May be another 1-2 years before completion. Unfortunately Belgrade-Nis may be five years away. But Serbia is on the right track(pun intended)
Belgrade-Budapest will have been finished by the start of 2025.

You inherit that railway from Yugoslavia Partizans, mostly serbs built that railway. Your country didnt exist in history until 1991 and you dont even control majority of your country, you control minority hahahah
Interesting fact: Krusevac used to be a capital city of Serbia back in 14 century, under Emperor Lazar Hrebeljanovic, who fight against Ottomans on Kosovo (1389). Today there are only some parts of Donjoan Tower (largest tower of medieval fortress) left in Krusevac.
Lazar was not an emperor, he was not even a king. At the time, he was the most powerful noble. But yes, in our minds, he is more than any of these titles.
@@danicadabic9789 Well, after emperor Dusan Silni, he was one of many nobles, that took his part of country. There were Vukasin and Ugljesa Mrnjacevic, Brankovici, Uros (Dusans son), and many others.

Russia is not just Moscow and S. Petersburg, only a person who knows very little about Russia can say that... there are nice places all over Russia. Some of larger cities that have a lot of attractions are: Tula, Volvograd (also known as Stalingrad), Krasnodar, Sochi, Rostov on Don, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok...
He means economically. So much financial power is concentrated to especially Moscow, somewhat St. Petersburg and the rest is distributed to the rest of the country. Maybe a bit less today than 20 years ago.
@@emilpopovic6167 Russia was part of Soviet Union. S. Union had other cities the size of Sankt Petersburg like Kiev, Minsk, Kharkov, Baku, Astana... Economical power was spread to rest of the country true this mayor economical and industrial centers. This is the reason why now days it appears like only Moscow developed and other places in Russia stagnated true history, but that is only the case because Russia was part of larger entity and Moscow was capital of that larger entity. Wealth and resources like Oil, Gas and other ores from Russia were distributed to centers witch are no longer part of country, to build industry in those places. When Soviet Union collapse Russia had to pay the debt of all former Republics and it did by 2017. Now days Russian resources are spreed to Russian cities but Moscow still grow because it is central financial hub, all the banks, bureaucracy and insurance companies are there.

@@IvansBikesBmws Charles Cather works for a U.S. State Department program which takes money and young people out of Serbia. It is not good for Serbia overall. The program costs Serbs and their families thousands of dollars and that doesn't even include their airfare and accommodations. All that for some low-skilled labor jobs in the U.S. during the summer months. Most have to get 2 or 3 full-time jobs to cover the costs of the program, airfare and rent. Many of these young Serbs find a way to stay, so it does drain the young people from Serbia. It is a program which helps the U.S., NOT Serbia. But Serbs don't see the reality because they are blinded by a few compliments he throws their way. He eats a lot of fast food in Serbia and says it's good, and Serbs think that is a good image for Serbia!? When he travels to other places in the Balkans he goes to nice restaurants, but in Serbia he eats cheaply.

Serbia is reducing the time to get permanent residency from 5 to 3 years. Definitely sell everything and come! Look up "Nix Serbia" here on CZcams, she's from Canada too.
@@bradbeckett Thanks for the additional rec! I'll likely be visiting in the next few months - have only visited Belgrade and Nis in the past and I'd like to check out some other areas. I've consulted with a couple of lawyers and there's a distinct possibility that I may not have to choose (ie. can hold active residence permits in both countries). Could be pretty useful to have options.

Paperwork (administration) used to be a hell but now is much better. I remember when I had to change my passport, I prepared myself to spend at least 2 hours on it, but actually, it took only 15 minutes.

i agree whit you that the government needs to invest more in railways and transportation in general, city busses have a ventilation but those who travel between cities need to be more comfortable, some of those busses are 20-30 years old for example
Tap to pay also saved me in Serbia when the ATM did not wanted to take my card, but Samsung pay with is connected to the same card worked. I started watching after googling how to ride the bus in Belgrade and when I went to buy the busplus card, the lady in the kiosk informed me that they hanged the system same week. So it's just SMS-tickets now and it was like 30 cents for city center zone for the whole calendar day.
Come to Leskovac in a week, there's a food festival called "Roštiljada".

If you are influencer, or you have any kind of job, that you can work from home, no matter where you are. Then Serbia is a great country. You have a same amount of money, but you have everything cheaper, also food in Serbia is so rich and tasty, alot of good places to visit, also nature is beautifull and doesnt look so wild, like somwhere in Asia or South America. But even average citizen in Belgrade, has only about 70000-80000 dinars (600-700 euros) salary. For food you need at least 25000, taxes somewhere betwen 15000 and 20000 in average. If you live in a rented flat of house, then at least 25000 dinars more. So it is very hard for us, to live here.

True average salary in Krusevac is around $400-500 per month ($5-6K yearly income). People can manage to make ends meet just barely with those wages and usually a few generations live under the same roof. On the other side, when the US citizen comes in such a small town with a yearly income of $50K, which by the way is nothing special for the US - it's obvious he can live like a king there and he's considered to be ultra rich.

Hey Bred I’m from Serbia living in the US. The best way to get cash is to get a Ria account /app and then send it to you. I pay like $5 for 400$ when I send it to myself when I used the bank. You can pick up dinars where ever they have ria.
I would recommend you to go to the city Kraljevo, It's a nice and quiet town and it has nice prices if you search the right places. I would not suggest you to go the big city's prices there can be a bit high and in 60% you can get scammed, If you are looking to spare some money i would suggest moving in a smaller city in Serbia and to get a friend to translate for you if you don't understand the language, You can ask people usually the young folk to translate for you cuz the do usually speak English, Hope this helps you people.

Unfortunately chances of people moving outside big cities are small. Big majority of constituents have left small towns to move to Belgrade. Villages were thriving only 20-30 years ago. Now only people left are the ones left to die. It would be great if it came true, because Serbia can easily live of its land.

i'm an american spending a month in serbia right now and i'm blown away by how much better life is here than back home. i dont know why anyone would want to live in america when serbia exists. honestly though, if you've got $1500 a month of passive income, you can live anywhere on earth. that's the catch of this tutorial - how do you get the passive income? my income isnt passive, i work for it and if i leave america, it stops coming in

Serbians are using busses a lot more than trains. Depending on which buss company you use you can get quality "service" (Buss).
