Really glad to see this review as I only added this Walkman to my Amazon basket two days ago. What's even better is that you've got the same Ex-1000 that I've been using for the past number of years and I love them. However, mine on my left channel, have stopped working and I'm not sure if it's my cable that's broken or the actual earphone. I've sent a message to PETEREK so we'll see what he can do. In the meantime I have been looking at the FiiO F9 Pro (watched your review on those as well) and depending on how expensive it is to resolve my Ex-1000 conundrum I've been investigating either those or the RHA T20s, but not cure yet. If you've done a comparison with the F9s and the T20s that would be interesting to know how they compare to the 1000s.

For now I have IFi-audio’s Nano iDSD Black Label bricked to a phone, or an iPod 6th gen, or us with a laptop. Been using it for or over a month now. I have no problem with the sound, sounds great, but with some recordings there is some early clipping, I can’t go too loud (with less efficient planar magnetic over-ears).. I’m curious about its S-Balanced Circuit (3.5mm TRRS), if it can make a difference.. I could have custom cables made for my cans for about $150 but that’s no assurance. Not sure if it will work with a 3.5mm female to 1/4” TRS adapter plug too.. Or I could just upgrade to a more powerful amp/dac like the iDSD Micro Black Label, or a Sony Walkman DAP.. Sony. Best balanced devices I have used are the PHA-3 and the zx300 and wm1a. They do it in a way that seems to work beyond the others. I thought the M1S was great though. Build not so great on that. I'd pick the zx300
I have. Good budget player. Little bit under powered but with most IEM that is not much of a problem. Good U.I and everything works as promoted by company

I’m just getting into audio - picked up iSine 20s (Cipher cable on the way), AKG7xx, and have the Audeze Mobius on the way; have some Shure E2Cs from long ago (my Etymotics got destroyed). I’ll use the iSine20 with the iPhone X... but a DAP might be nice. Agreed with re to Sony. I had Walkmans until they shifted to the old Sony Way. I looked at their Palm OS device back then and that rootkit was some bullshit, as was the ATRAC need. I believe in cry once or cry many times when it comes to spending on good gear, but not sure I’d hear the difference.
The Q1mkII is very slim and had a lightning cable think and pairs really good with isine20. Really good and has a hardware bass switch to put some thump in those when needed

They are not that different actually. Sony went for a particular sound and only the WM1Z is voiced different on purpose These all have the S Master HX and have a certain clarity because of that and a shared Sony house sound. Power output is the diff but if you use easy to drive gear like IEM you should be good. Sony finally made some good DAP's
Quick question. If I use a 4.4mm adaptor to 3.5 mm, and use the balance output line. Will I still get the benefit of using that balanced output. Meaning will I get better output and better Fidelity? Thanks!
I lost my Sony NW-A55 yesterday and I've been looking to buy a new one from Sony and this review really helped me on my decision. It was either this or the NW-A55 again. What won me, is that this one had a better drive due to the Balanced Output option.
@@theprince08853 i have A55 and just bought ZX300. I use balanced XBA-N3 for the zx300 I kind of dissapointed because for me A55 sounds better. But then I read the setting of zx300 that to get the full potential of this player, you have to keep it played for at least 200hours. They say to burn in the capacitors or something. When I said A55 sounds better, I mean it has better bass. But maybe since I am a basshead and using mdr XB75 which has 12mm driver for my A55, compared to 9mm driver of XBA-N3. But if you prefer balanced output, maybe zx300 will suit you just fine. We all have different prefferences after all So yes there's that. I just gonna wait until my zx300 reach its 200hrs milestone. To hear if it will get better. I am still at 70hrs playback time
@@fajarkurniawan9434 Hi there. I actually acquired a ZX300 in this time and I WM1A (which I've returned). For me the A55 with the walkman mod sounded better than the ZX300 with the walkman mod. I found the ZX300 too clinical/accurate COMPARED to the A55 which as a more "fun" sound and adheres more to the Sony "house sound". I'm using balanced output on the ZX300 with a pair of HiFiMan Sundara's (or Starfields). I also got a WM1A from Japan but apart from better soundstage and separation there wasn't much different so I decided to just return it.

I did actually and they sounded like a good pair. I have not heard the FLC8 not pair good except for Opus #3 because that had odd treble. Aside from that unit most stuff sounds good on the FLC8
The past couple years a lot of daps were moving to stone cold neutral. No idea why? Most folks besides the 1-3% that like that probably like this 300 better than those. I do. 97% er over here ;)
I didn't find any reviews on zx300 last year that's why I went for 300r. But now, I saw your video about it and it convinced me that I should get the zx300. Btw, is there a lose on sound quality using a 2.5-4.4mm adapter? Will use an adapter since it's hard to find a 4.4mm balanced cable for the flc. Thanks. Sonics it is awesome. Maybe the best IMO. But no balanced, slow U.I. I will eventually get it again though. If you want just the best music quality and can accept the limitations...Calyx M.

Please don't get mad if you have already answered this: in the video i see you with the NW Wm1... i'm very , VERY puzzled wether to buy the first or the latter...do they really sound so similar??? I have to chance to take home with me a brand new ZX300 for just 380 bucks compared to the 1.1K of the Wm1... price aside is the ZX300 the real deal here?
Oh, and can you use mp3tag on files that are already in the player while connected to the computer? I don't really want to embed the album art to my files on my PC. I like the art just to be in the folders.
and does the album art have to be a specific size for it to display? I've heard from other sources that it needs to be 300x300 to work. That would be annoying and time consuming.
Glen zee NW-A55 is probably similar in tone to the ZX300, but less power (intended for easy to drive portables like IEMs or PortaPros), buttons more like the ZX300 than the old NW-A45, scrolling more responsive than NW-A45. All of them have great battery life, Bluetooth, UI.
A55 vs Zx300 via SE 3.5 A55 wayy better than zx300 in any way. Even with high gain cant keep up with A55. But if you want balanced 4.4. ZX300 kick A55 ass in any way.

I currently own the Sony 7550(actually thinking of buying second pair just in case), Sony xb90ex, Future Sonics g10, the bass is great on all of them but I would like to give my ears a rest from all the bass . I thought the mids on that set were a tad back. The FLC8 are great and for more cash the NCM Bella is excellent. The sony Z5 is great until you go basshead. Regular listen levels are smooth with holographic like presentation
Well I like the FiiO FH1 better than F9 pro so in that case 1+1 but the sony hybrid's 1+2 are pretty good. A3 is pretty awesoe unless amped too much then bass bloats
I can only find the black in the Japanese version. How easy is it to change the language settings? Can you do it via the device or does it have to be by computer?
i had both the ZX100 AND ZX300..if you have not got enough funds get the ZX100 it is very close from the 3.5mm socket in fact the ZX100 sounds better.. better bass definition and more impactful...where the ZX300 wins is the balanced socket it sounds bloody good!! great dynamics and it has that signature sony warm sound
the musashino is balanced 4.4mm to female 3.3mm unbalanced. will it be able to deliver 200 mWatt power t 4.4mm bal to 3.5mm unbal? am really upset that i can't find bal 4.4mm to bal 3.5mm for my hd650 apparently sennheiser HD660s comes along with 4.4mm pentaconn lead. Hopefully i will get my hands on that original pentaconn lead from sennheiser.

What is the name of the adapter you are using? I mean the bulk one in the middle which helps you to connect to any kind of cable like 2.5 or 4.4. I just don't know how to google it.
Looking to buy this and use it in my main system ( McIntosh & Martin Logan). I want to digitize my existing cd collection to DSD as well as buy DSDs online. I think I can just output through the 3.5mm jack into an analog RCA input on my Mcintosh preamp. This seems to be the cheapest and cleanest way without using a computer and an external DSD Dac. In theory it seems to work. What do you think?

Thanks for the comment. A45 is good but not much power compared to this and this is totally built for durable portable use even more than the a45.

No. I actually think the Z7 was one of Sony's misses. I had PETEREK's custom set (just connects were altered) and was not a fan of the sound.

When I said A55 sounds better, I mean it has better bass. But maybe since I am a basshead and using mdr XB75 which has 12mm driver for my A55, compared to 9mm driver of XBA-N3.
But if you prefer balanced output, maybe zx300 will suit you just fine.
We all have different prefferences after all
So yes there's that. I just gonna wait until my zx300 reach its 200hrs milestone. To hear if it will get better. I am still at 70hrs playback time

For me the A55 with the walkman mod sounded better than the ZX300 with the walkman mod. I found the ZX300 too clinical/accurate COMPARED to the A55 which as a more "fun" sound and adheres more to the Sony "house sound".
I'm using balanced output on the ZX300 with a pair of HiFiMan Sundara's (or Starfields). I also got a WM1A from Japan but apart from better soundstage and separation there wasn't much different so I decided to just return it.
What would be the best dap for my dt 770 pro 250
something with a switchable amp like x7 mkII or DX200 so power will not be an issue and they have amps with multiple input types.

I did actually and they sounded like a good pair. I have not heard the FLC8 not pair good except for Opus #3 because that had odd treble. Aside from that unit most stuff sounds good on the FLC8

The past couple years a lot of daps were moving to stone cold neutral. No idea why? Most folks besides the 1-3% that like that probably like this 300 better than those. I do. 97% er over here ;)
I didn't find any reviews on zx300 last year that's why I went for 300r. But now, I saw your video about it and it convinced me that I should get the zx300. Btw, is there a lose on sound quality using a 2.5-4.4mm adapter? Will use an adapter since it's hard to find a 4.4mm balanced cable for the flc. Thanks. No does not have to be 300x300 but cannot be progressive jpeg must be regular and embedded so mp3tag should work fine

Glen zee NW-A55 is probably similar in tone to the ZX300, but less power (intended for easy to drive portables like IEMs or PortaPros), buttons more like the ZX300 than the old NW-A45, scrolling more responsive than NW-A45. All of them have great battery life, Bluetooth, UI.

I thought the mids on that set were a tad back. The FLC8 are great and for more cash the NCM Bella is excellent. The sony Z5 is great until you go basshead. Regular listen levels are smooth with holographic like presentation

Well I like the FiiO FH1 better than F9 pro so in that case 1+1 but the sony hybrid's 1+2 are pretty good. A3 is pretty awesoe unless amped too much then bass bloats

i had both the ZX100 AND ZX300..if you have not got enough funds get the ZX100 it is very close from the 3.5mm socket in fact the ZX100 sounds better.. better bass definition and more impactful...where the ZX300 wins is the balanced socket it sounds bloody good!! great dynamics and it has that signature sony warm sound

apparently sennheiser HD660s comes along with 4.4mm pentaconn lead. Hopefully i will get my hands on that original pentaconn lead from sennheiser.
Without testing I couldn't say for sure. I would think that output port is controlled by the amp stage and not the connect but I don't know?

Looking to buy this and use it in my main system ( McIntosh & Martin Logan). I want to digitize my existing cd collection to DSD as well as buy DSDs online. I think I can just output through the 3.5mm jack into an analog RCA input on my Mcintosh preamp. This seems to be the cheapest and cleanest way without using a computer and an external DSD Dac. In theory it seems to work. What do you think?
