As a die hard Chico liberal who never voted for a republican in my life, I have to take my hat off to what the conservative council has done here.

Wow. That’s quite the statement! I tried to be as fair as possible! 2020 and 2021 was a battle but I think the City came out ahead in the end. Grateful to have our park back AND so many compassionate resources for homeless people.

What happens when the council turns liberal again? I loved Chico when it had a conservative vibe. A long time ago.

@@shellyneilson2029 the state of California makes it very hard for any local city to have a conservative vibe. What we really need is the have a leadership change at the state level that values safety and cleanliness.

Homeless has seen an uptick since the time of this video. I think with winter weather some shelters are full and the city is having a hard time playing “wack-a-mole” with a the camp sites as they come up. They get cleared. Then just go somewhere else. However it’s much better than 2020 but still has a ways to go.

Hmmm... we left Chico when housing got too pricey for us (retired enlisted military) to buy a house.
We've missed it terribly. Maybe we could move back as homeless people.

i love the creativity. I feel like housing is out of reach for 70% of US residents. If you liked the rural setting, the USDA RD "rural development" initiatives was able to provide my father a retired vet of the airforce a 250,000 loan for 36 years at 1% interest just last month. This and a VA loan accomplished the seemingly impossible goal of affordable home ownership for a retired vet. Never loose hope and thank you for your service.

Thank you! Thanks for good enunciation and pictures! I'm on a waiting list for affordable housing there. Or El Cerrito. I spent 30 years in San Francisco and now understand I can't even go back for a visit! What I loved isn't there anymore; it's gone. I get the Chico newspaper online and have followed how they're dealing with the homeless. In West Sacramento I'm in a gated community. Now that I'm learning Sacramento, I was going to visit a gorgeous huge shopping center over Christmas, but an elderly woman was attacked there yesterday. Many public toilets are closed in Sacramento. Before I had learned my iPhone, one day I not only was lost but needed to pee. I turned down a cemetery access road. It wasn't pretty! I grew up in Bakersfield and allowing for the passing of decades plus time in large cities and smaller towns, I like that Chico has VA clinic, a university, parks and natural beauty, churches, a transit system, book stores, fabric stores and other places to my liking -- all right there!

My mother bought a Pizza Hut pizza last night and it had a $1.80 “service charge” that said the service fee was to help offset the rising costs in California. That 8 slice pizza cost $26.00. 😢
Maybe Chico is dipping into the rising costs in California service fees? A resort fee for the homeless that we all contribute to? Why vote on it?😮😢

Measure H passed in 2022 which was a 1% city sales tax. But it was not related. It goes to the general fund, not allocated to anything specifically.

    • @samuelkeller9771

Quite the contrary. The city actually financially benefited from this in a big way as it was around 3 million dollars for this Construction management operations food and all that stuff and the city was recently awarded over 40 million dollars for the settlement of the campfire so they benefited at least 37 million dollars so no additional tax was needed like in The Proposal H that was recently passed and that money wasn't going to go to fix roads the city gets the money from the state of California to spend on the roads anyways. The 1% sales tax increased was because council member Sean Morgan who's the financial wiz of three failed businesses and the director of a bank that is the one of the least liquidity stable financial institutions in a five-state that is so close to failing that it has no way of even coming close to having enough liquidity to cover even half of the money deposited from its ever shrinking customer base and this is the genius you guys put in charge of the budget.

Yep! I'm the reason for all the problems, or is it that i'm the reason peeps don't have anymore excuses? All i needed was love. And, FYI, boondocking Well, isn't homelessness. It's just another way of life. Being able to take off whenever, to wherever, is Pretty rad. Also, voyeurism and exhibitionism is just a fetish, not a necessity.

There is a documentary about the homeless problem in chico that was made 9 years ago that will refute your camp fire homeless theory there are no homeless people in paradise the people were temporarily dispaced the actual residents didnt stay long there might be like 2 homeless people in paradise because we dont put up with that shit

There has been progressive damage from both the city, like the Brown New Deal and the state. It did start a long time ago. In the wake of the Camp Fire it wasn’t Paradise homeless, you’re right, it was homeless opportunists from all over the country that came for the handouts. I basically agree with you. And since this video, sadly, the homeless issue has seen an uptick in Chico. But it’s not for lack of effort on the current leadership on the council.
