    Great vid! I use this setup also. One thing -- in the EOS R shooting menu, switch 24fps to ON. This will force the Ninja V to record 10 bit at 24fps, rather than 30fps. Also make sure you're shooting in ProRes HQ to maximize the 10 bit color depth, as the lower codecs are more compressed but aren't optimized for 10 bit data.

    Good job :) I'm unsure if I see the Dynamic range advantage in the clips. Maybe you can see the highlight and shadow recovery in post. The bike clips seems to have more dynamic range in the 8 bit footage. I can however see banding in the 8 bit clips

    Great video. Answered more than one question for me. I still have a few more:
    1. With Ninja V attached, does EOS-R continuous autofocus still work?
    2. I get that for 10-bit, external recording is the only option. But is there any noticeable quality difference if we record 8-bit straight to this recorder, instead of internal camera recording? Like ... less compression, etc?
    Thank you.

    Great video! I’ve used the Ninja V and EOS R together a few times, but only once mounted like you show with the Ronin S. I thought it was a bit cumbersome the first time with that setup, but need to keep practicing. Have you done any videos on setting up the Ninja V screen? I can do the basics but would love to get more comfortable with operating the Ninja V. Great footage! Was any of that slo motion?

    But...., you have to record in 4K and deal with the big crop, right? I also have the Canon EOS R, but I’ve never used 4K, only 1080p, which is great and have the shinobi, but I would like to experiment grading and recording 10 bits... thanks for this great vid man

    • @collinstebbins2598
      @collinstebbins2598 Před 3 lety +2

      The crop is not much more than every other cinema camera. Super 35 is approx 1.5x and eosr is about 1.7x.

    How long can you shoot video using this setup? I assume there are no 30 mins limit any more but I am curious about the battery performance for both the ninja and the eos r in this setup, Let’s say both battery are full and then you press record, which one would die first? After how long?

    • @Roman.the.explorer
      @Roman.the.explorer  Před 3 lety +1

      the batteries for the ninja suck, there are 2 types smaller and bigger. Smaller about an hour, bigger i guess 2+

  • @TheFilmCouple_
    @TheFilmCouple_ Před 3 lety +1

    Amazing footage! I'd really appreciate if u could answer a Question.. Does the signal to the Ninja become cropped because of 4k? I have already ordered a Ninja V and now I've realised that it crops the image and you cant shoot 1080p? My work is primarily on a Gimbal with the RF 50mm f1.2 and if this gets cropped it will be useless to me. I am so mad at Canon if this is the case, as I ma have just wasted $1000. Especially when all it takes is a software update to allow 1080p over HDMI or even uncropped 4K over hdmi.

    • @Roman.the.explorer
      @Roman.the.explorer  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey! Unfortunately 4K does have 1.6x crop in all modes. Now they released R5 and R6 which are both backordered and cost an arm and a leg but they have no crop and do all those things internally. But have overheating issues.

    • @TheFilmCouple_
      @TheFilmCouple_ Před 3 lety +2

      @@Roman.the.explorer Thank you for the reply. Sadly Canon do this on purpose (crippling cameras with firmware, even when they are capable of more). I've been using the Ninja V with my GH5 and love the extra quality (60fps 4K 10bit 422) and Prores codec fast for editing. Quality of the Canon is amazing, but such a big crop with my RF 1.2 50mm lens - great for zoom work but no good for Gimbal or wide shots. I might hassle Canon to at least give us 1080p 60p 422 over HDMI as an option... that's definitely possible through a firmware update.

    • @Roman.the.explorer
      @Roman.the.explorer  Před 3 lety +1

      Creators Life that would be a game changer. But like you said they cripple it, so that can have those features in more expensive cameras :(

    • @risbill1
      @risbill1 Před 3 lety

      You absolutely can shoot 1080p with Ninja V although it is 8bit. You still get all the other benefits of the recorder such as less expensive storage, no record limits and all the exposure tools. I regularly shoot 4k with a 50mm you just have to back up a little bit.
