came face to face with demon he created himself. Finally realizing this habit turns me into something ugly. He conquered his demon at sea. The bird represents hope and peace. Letting him know everything will be ok. Great story telling! Awesome message in the film.
As a recovering alcoholic, I wish it were this easy.
Lovely and inspirational film none the less. 👍🏼
all is your head
your brain is your biggest enemy
I quit smoking by taking a several month long sailing trip worked for me granted the bottle is harder than that it’s life long struggle.
wow this was amazing
my guess is that the wierd other guy was his drinking addiction and finally broke it after seeing how much of a monster it really is
Colonel SandMan oh i didnt realise that but it portrays it even better as he threw the bottle it came back again
The glass can even be his self reflection thus why it resembles him so much
Also very clever is that the liquid runs right through that glass guy...meaning, that all that drinking helps nothing
yasbutterfly Y Same this deserves something
If that is the message from this short, it sucks at delivering that message. I've been watching a shit ton of this videos today and this is by far the worst. I couldn't feel anything for this, and I TRIED! The only thing I got from this was some decent dude that is a bad drunk. If you're going to make a shitty video about abuse, at least make it relatable. Christ I hate being mean.
Patch, maybe the movie ain't bad, but your interpretation skills, and your sense of symbolics.
I'm alcoholic myself, and this is actually motivating me to stay sober
Keep it up.
Keep it up pal, you can do this, believe in yourself as I believe in you
Good luck to you
lol still drinking ? yea we all say this.
@@BLXCNN shut the hell up.
This is really precious and very well made.
I like how the broken version of him was represented in this and how unique the mans face was made.
This movie actually depicts a real disease : It's called "delirium tremens" and is described in psychiatry as hallucinations linked to the sevrage of alcohol. The patient will often imagine himself drinking, breaking a lot of links between him and reality
There is also a belgian beer brand named after it (the more you know)
thanks for the explaination.... I didn't know it.
@@tabasdezh T.I.L
Thank you!
Delirium tremens is not a disease. It’s a symptom of severe alcohol withdrawal, which in itself, for someone dependent on alcohol, can be fatal.
Im an alcoholic, yet i hadnt realised that. Very clever observation friend. Oh btw im now sober, and trust me if i can do it anyone can.
I have to admit this did 2 years ago make me really rethink my path in life. I still come back to it to remind myself
This is exactly what it's like. You get these small glimmers of hope and happiness when the bird visits, of what could be. The drink is only sadness and pain. My alcoholism got so bad I was hospitalized. Am now almost 3 months sober for the first time in over 10 years. I don't know what my journey holds for me ahead but God I want that bird to be with me...
The title 'The Albatross' might be a reference to the Ancient Mariner. The albatross around this man's neck might be alcohol. And the bird might be a reference to the dove, a symbol for the holy spirit who is helping him to give up the addiction to alcohol. Loved the analogies.
Not every bit of bird symbolism refers back to god, you insufferable religionists. The bird represents hope and freedom from his addiction to booze.
A bit off topic, but those are some pretty nice glasses. Wouldn’t mind a set like that
IKR??!
Ha ha ha ha!! Yes, he's kidding. (She?)
the broken shell of a man
I am trying to get out of my drinking habits recently, and this was very motivating for me..
Aakash be STRONG
I drunk alcohol for 7years every-day and night mostly Gin and whisky...now i am 5month clean.
"use your mind and find something you can fight for it... (I fightet for me and my future)
This video was a little part of help..but you have to make by yourself...
!!Best and good luck buddy!!💪
I don't know if you're still drinking or have recently stopped, but, assuming you still are, good luck not drinking. You can do it!
Also i brother
Please comment
The bird symbolises redemption . Very nice animation and good allegory of the ancient mariner .
Oh my god this was beautiful it's probably the best looking short film i've ever seen. That reprensentation of his alcoholism was brilliant, BRAVO.
Well spoken Pale Rider.
*Just Go Huh?! Let It Rip Huh?!*
A toast to you, huh? Hm?
Huh huh HUH!!
yea you old fart
@@EpicLionMusic Egging you on eh!?Have a go ya mug.
the message is clear
I've never drank before but I like to watch this video because it reminds me of the side of me I let take control time to time. it slowly destroyed my relationship with most of my friends and family.. It's the side of me that focuses to much on work and studies and forgets to stop every now and then to truly enjoy life and find joy in the moment that surrounds us day to day. I visualize that bird as life's opportunities its always around but rather we choose to appreciate them or not its a true choice for us to make.
for anyone for anything...there is help...
im going to detox soon and get after care..
but to anyone who is struggling right now..
you got this
you GOT this.
many people love you..i love you
get it done
Video was incredible, had to watch a couple of times to get the full effect but I enjoyed it thoroughly.
“Here we go, baby! Go huh, go huh, go huh, go huh? Huh? Try it! TRY IT HUH?! TRY I-“ -The Iceman
“First the man takes a drink, then the drink takes the man.”
this should have won oscars. nice job.
No matter how much you drink you will always come back worse than ever.
Good God! Such a powerful video. This video hit me personally after battling with alcoholism. It is so on point on what’s it’s like to battle with it.
This was a great short movie. Wonderful animation and a great plot too. Well done to the creators!
And that's why I don't drink, tastes bad and the possiblity of meeting that glass figure
I've watched this about 10x & still like it as I drink my wine.Brilliant video & thanks.
I grew up with an alcoholic mother, and many members of my family are alcoholics, and this short resonated well. I was surrounded by creative people who drowned their creativity in whatever their drug of choice was of the moment. Sadly, it destroyed many of them. So many of those people had other issues, like depression that they were trying to medicate in ways that were unhealthy. I was one of them. I didn't use drugs or booze. I used isolation and books, and spent my time reading, doing art, making clothing and writing. I tried getting help, of course, but it frankly didn't work very well. The unhealthy patterns were too deeply ingrained, I think. I'm pretty much stuck in what was burned and abused into me. I'm still isolated and still live in my head. I never got into drugs or booze, at least, so I guess that's something. Instead, I spend all my time online, watching videos like these excellent shorts, or educational documentaries, movies, or news. Not sure what that says about me, really, but people are my bane. I just don't like them, much. Extreme introvert, maybe?
As someone with a formerly-alcoholic parent, this fucking cartoon hit home.
This really has some amazing depth and is very intelligent
This video made me cry and feel sick at the same time ...
Beautiful and powerful message, not to mention the great CG work, bravo! I got goosebumps as I realized this was about alcoholism and that the glass man was a mirror of himself. My one question that remains: I'm still not entirely sure what the bird symbolizes?
To me the bird represented hope. In the beginning it's scared off by his addiction, and then in the middle, it appears as though the addiction had nearly killed hope, but in the end, it returned to him again.
The bird could represent hope, freedom or survival, as others have mentioned. I am inclined to think that it symbolises his soul or even his dream as a writer. They could be both represented in that birdie.
I think its sobriety
@@christoffergood3504 never too late! I love that every year or so someone comments and leaves their thoughts, and it reminds me of this comment I forgot I left! 😁
This short is what inspired me to become an animator
Stunningly beautiful. Thank you for making this!
Addictions ruin relationships, and keep people isolated. Oftentimes, when something positive, beautiful, peaceful, etc... (i.e. The bird) come around... the addiction destroys what it could have been.
If only more people could break addictions the way this guy did...
it is about drinking and not being able to control it, believe me I'm there, on my days off I drink to much and darning the week I have about 4 drinks a night to relax and get to sleep, I don't drink when my gf is with me as she doesn't care for it. i stopped smoking for her, she was my strength, the drinking will come in time, this movie makes one think.
that was awesome. it reminded me of the last bastion from OVERWATCH.
For a moment I was expecting this to be in french, because most random well animated shorts are for some reason. Glad it is not.
Masterfully executed. Every bit!! Concept, visuals, sounds. Really amazing ^_^
Brilliant! Thank you!
Maybe we should start drinking out of glass bottles again, so that when the bottles end up on the bottom of the ocean, they stay there, and turn back into sand.
all alcohol is in glass at least
😲 OMG. I truely don't think anyone could have expressed addition better. Truly genious😱
Thank you for this.
I like the way that glass character talks and the way he grunts and moves is entertaining
great animation!
This teaches me how important sound is
The crystal man represents elderflower cordial, and the man represents parchment paper and wine. It’s really excited me.
This is so good.
These visuals were amazing!! I love it!
ah yes lets make a video about the horrors of alcoholism but totally drop the ball with littering in the damn ocean
RECYCLE YOUR DAMN BOTTLES
Beep Boop its a lake still is bad but not as bad as throwing shit in the ocean
How did they drop the ball? The message was clearly about alcoholism do you think someone will say "WOW THEY ALCOHOLIC DROPPED BOTTLES IN A LAKE SO I WILL TOO!!!"
Littering totally ruined the symbolism sarcasm but i agree
Nicely done animation along with the short story.
Fabulous!
Oh wow thats deep haha good job amazing animation!
Massa de mais
Incrível como esse tipo de coisa nos induz a reflexão neh!!
Amazing!
Only 465k views after 6 years? This is gold. More people should see it. Thank youtube and your algorithms.
Turn out to be a small place . Long in the shadow and short on the whisky . Lol ! Thank you for the video .
Glass Ultron wanting sum Whiskey
It was unsettling to me when it said "Let her rip." It's last words. That thing thought it was cool he was drinking even though it was falling apart. I would've tossed the bottle.
As a former Alcoholic who spent my best years caught up in the midst of the disease, this film really moves me. I used to watch it while I was still in active addiction and no matter how wasted I was it, it always made me feel so terrible and sad, but also hopeful. It was shortly after then I went to rehab. I will continue to struggle with my addiction the rest of my life, but coming back now, sober with a year since my last drop of alcohol, this film still gets me in the gut. Well done. And if your still in that place and happen to read this, get help. You never, ever have to feel as shitty as using makes you, ever again. There is hope, DONT GIVE UP ON YOURSELF. I’m also a attempted suicide survivor, I never thought I’d be strong enough to put the bottle down and take back control, but if I can do it, so can you!
Wow. Very well done. Very Strong.
This is an amazing animation
Simply amazing guyz but if you guyz add a subtitles it would be super amazing
Break your glass shadow and throw away the booze! Being clean, healthy, and sober feels so much better! I quit 10 months ago.
Nearly 2 years now!
@@MUDSWAT congratulations
@@jamestait2996 Thanks 2 years, 1 month and 6 days. :D Lol, I don't do the whole AA thing but yea.
Keep on going, you got this.
@@smcrulesg600 Year four was on July 4th 😊
I’m alcoholic my self and i just deeply understand this short movie . While you drink you just destroy your self and there is a dark side in you who tells you to have fun and drink until you loose your life .. i hope to stop drinking and live a normal life
Very nice movie
This video came on one night when I was piss drunk as usual. it took me a while to quit, but this always stuck with me. One of my lil' tools to stay sober.
so amazing dude.
Amazing !!! Learned the message
So basically the crystal clone of that guy represents his alcohol addiction
Educative I'd say
wow amazing video
I should watch this every day and every day I shed a tear i should punch my self in the face and have just one for the pain and one more after that its the only way. God I love life and all its offerings
I’ve shown my kids this video twice.
I want them to understand how alcohol can be such a monkey on your back! Great video.
@Pressol exactly right
Hella good animation👌

This somehow reminds me of "Gotta light" scene from twin peaks.
Plot twist: it was a tea all along
Was this about alcohol abuse? Cause I think it was but just making sure
Im guessing yea
You're joking, I hope.
It was about alcohol addiction
Has waken me up
Profound...
