  • Many in the church have taken grace as a license for sin. The result of course, is ungodliness, the very thing grace has freed us from. Recognizing this in his own day, John Calvin admonished his people by the Word of God to live the Christian life marked by growth and maturity in Christ. So how is that accomplished? How do you grow in faith that is pleasing to God? Dr. J. Ligon Duncan discusses this as he considers “Calvin and the Christian Life.”

Summarize Calvin's Institutes??? Wow... Well, when James Montgomery Boice tried to do that, he wrote Foundations of the Christian Faith.

There is a very simple problem with the dogma of “once saved, always saved.” That problem is that it is just not biblical! The truth is, the dogma of “once saved, always saved” is part of the doctrines and commandments of men. Consider Matthew 15:1-20; Mark 7:1-23 → Galatians 1:6-20 and II John 1:7-11!

In Reformed theology, the pactum salutis has been defined as a pretemporal, intratrinitarian agreement between the Father and Son in which the Father promises to redeem an elect people. In turn the Son volunteers to earn the salvation of his people by becoming incarnate...by acting as surety of the covenant of grace for and as mediator of the covenant of grace to the elect. In his active and passive obedience, Christ fulfills the conditions of the pactum salutis...ratifying the Father's promise, because of which the Father rewards the Son's obedience with the salvation of the elect. And because of this the Holy Spirit applies the Son's work to his people through the means of grace.
Ephesians 1 is a great place to help you with this wonderful truth.

The argument against that obvious would be that they were never truly saved. They were never regenerated to begin with their act of Faith, was not an act of God, but instead of man, if it was of God, it would not fail -
to me. This was the absolute struggle for me When I first started to see the doctrine of Grace, and hearing once saved, always sayved, I had an uncle who was a preacher of a Pentecostal first church of God and he seemed to be on fire for the Lord. He had a drug issue that became very apparent. He also spent time studying, and I think that’s exactly what it was. He was studying, but not soaking and worshiping he ended up really showing his true fire
later we learned there was money stolen embazzlement issues so the entire time it was like a scheme or a fraud within the position so you ask again I say he wasn’t truly saved
well perseverance of the saints states that we are kept street and our power doesn’t come from ourselves, but of Christ himself of the spirit that is within so unfortunately to say, I do not believe you were truly regenerate examples is a very very tough thing to say, but if we truly think about it, how could somebody ever ever ever walk away from the state unless it is of them self and not God?
I have dealt with this from my stepdad who believes he is saved. He has been baptized like three times does not go to church and regular. He has no interest of theology that he will act on curses bitter but wants to claim having faith so he professes but doesn’t possess true saving faith

Calvin was the most Evil, hateful men. He needs put out of Christian teaching. He has no grace, no forgiveness, and just plain hateful. Just like the reformed preachers of today.

Hilarious you have any say in the forgiveness of John Calvin. No hate among reformed teachers. When you're born again you know it is all a work of God. We take no credit for this miraculous gift. But we know what Romans 8 completely lays out.
      Romans 8:9-17
      New International Version
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[a] because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[b] his Spirit who lives in you.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation-but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[c] And by him we cry, “Abba,[d] Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
      Romans 8:28-39
      New International Version
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
      More Than Conquerors
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died-more than that, who was raised to life-is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
      “For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[b]
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[c] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
