That girl has not gotten enough credit for singing that song the way she did, she sang this beautifully and gave me chills and I'm not even catholic, I'm Jewish! This is such a hard song to sing even Pavarotti sang it like an angel but not that many can. Kelly did amazing and I love love listening to it.

angelina, no, Clarkson should have covered her chest and shoulders. I can tell you as a lapsed Catholic this dress was not respectful. When I was young we had to cover our hair, along with the rest of ourselves! I am amazed no one mentioned this to her before. Beautiful singing, of course.
She’s not catholic and not a member of the clergy! They asked her to come and sing. If there was a way she was supposed to dress then they should have told her so. Otherwise, she’s going to be herself. It’s not like she was dressed like a slut 🙄 She was raised in a baptist church like I was, I believe, and we wore dresses like that to church all the time at my church. I’m sure what she wore was the least of their concerns.

Schubert's Ave Maria is not a musical setting of the Catholic prayer, he composed it for the German translation of an English poem by Sir Walter Scott whose poem she's singing. The Latin part from the prayer, in fact, has nothing to do with the song, it's just included for sentimental value. So maybe you should not critique something you know nothing about?
I'm just sick of people critiising her use of English and saying she should have sung the 'proper words' because they actually know nothing about the song and obviously don't realise that it's the Latin that has nothing to do with it.

When I close my eyes and really listen, I can't help but count her as my favorite despite the Opera people etc. It's real and beautiful to tears.
