Where did you get your filter? My 1983 Datsun sputtering when driving 40 or so ,and then press accelerator more to go faster , it stalls a couple seconds or so. . I’m replacing the fuel pump and filter hoping that will fix it. Hard to find parts for these old Datsun but I really enjoy my little 720. Enjoyed your video.
In theory yes, it could impact performance. Most are directional and when installed the wrong way it could cause the engine to stall or just run lean and lose power.
There is a canister filter inside the fuel pump as well.

What about the other fuel filter that lives in the fuel pump itself ? ? ?
Could a backwards fuel filter affect fuel intake and horsepower?
