The long note in summer moved on was a Guinness book of records record for longest held note in a realised single. And yes he could do it live and I’ve witnessed him do it in the flesh. Not so much now as he is now 63, they have a new album coming out next October. I’m a life long a-ha fan since the very beginning, I’m now 49 been following them since I was 12, I’ll share your channel with the a-ha fan base. a-ha fans love to see new people react for the first time to their songs. Great reaction. I’m always so happy when someone reacts to A-ha, cause they really are underrated. They were the sound of the greatest music era the 80’s (and Morten Harket started the leather armwrist band trend, teared jeans and leather look). 😉 They have so many amazing songs. It would be cool if you also reacted to some of their newer albums (like Foot of the mountain and Cast in steel). They have kept their sound through almost 30 years.
Btw Kanye West, U2, Radiohead, Leonard Cohen, The Killers, Oasis, Keane, James Blunt, Pitbull and Coldplay are among some artists admitting to be A-ha fans and some bands have also told that A-ha was an inspiration for their music (Coldplay, Keane, The Killers..as you can hear by their sound). U2 stated that "The Sun Always Shines on T.V." heavily influenced the composition of their 2000 single release, "Beautiful Day". (and the «touch me» in «Beautiful day» is identical to «touch me» in «The sun always shines on tv» as you can hear). 😊

No one has a voice like Morten Harket, and Mags & Pal bring the intensity and emotion to a-ha’s music. The more you listen, the more you will be wowed. I loved them from the first time I heard them in 1985 as a kid and spent months with their first two albums on repeat. They just make me feel so many things. And now you see why my favorite a-ha song is “The Sun Always Shines on TV”! Musically that song is genius and has so much going on that you feel like you’re on a wild ride from start to finish, and you can’t sit still through it. So happy you decided to check out more of this band!
Oh and before I forget, I think I read somewhere that Morten holds a record for the longest note held in a live performance. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
I would of course love to see more a-ha on your channel! There’s a lot to choose from, but I think it would be great to see you react to something off their second album. My favorites are “Scoundrel Days” and “The Swing of Things” (which has a message that’s still relevant today), but whatever you choose will be welcomed. Thanks for making me smile today, and Happy New Year!

I would suggest four of my favourite A-ha songs: "I've been loosing you", "Move to Memphis", "Crying in the rain" (Everly brothers cover) and "The living daylights." I would also like to mention "A kind of christmas card" from vocalist Morten Harkets soloalbum in the mid-nineties.
Rumor has it that when A-ha refused to capitalize on Morten Harkets sex appeal, they gradually received less and less support from their management. This was linked to why A-ha never became big in the USA. They saw themselves as serious musicians, and didn't really care about that aspect of their fame. But if you take a look at the music video for "Move to Memphis" their stance on sexualized imagery is not so clear cut. There's can be no doubt that a basic premise of the video is the fetishizing of Morten Harket's looks and body.

    • @ahkkariq7406
      @ahkkariq7406 Před 2 lety +3

Thanks for the tip about the video to "Move to Memphis". The song itself is about someone obsessed with another person, pursue and even moving after her/him to another place. I think you are right. The video are settling with the idolization of Morten's appearance. All this cultivation of the product Morten who ignores that it is a human we are talking about, a man with a life, a family and emotions as a private human being. The sexualization of a man with good looks who really just wants to create good music and share it with the world.
As a woman I have to admit he is stunning, and have always been. With that said - there must be a limit to idolization.

I have a special gripe with autotune, the formulaic use of the drop, and the way singers copy each others style of singing, and loose anything unique they had in the first place. Some of their best songs are ones that were not released, so they don’t have videos, just lyric videos so to speak, so don’t let that put you off reacting to them or else you will be missing out. But for the mean time, I’d suggest, train of thought, I’ve been losing you and manhattan skyline. All very bombastic songs, lots of rock and amazing vocals from mr morten harket

01:18 this is the power of a diminished 7th chord out of the key the composition is written.
    Kind of spooky, right?
After this chord(notes) the song returns to its original key that was written.
Listening to this song for the first time in 1986 I had the same thought: "What is going on here?" 😲
Immediately I became a fun of the group.😂

On Summer Moves Morten actually holds the European record for longest sustained chest note, he's that damn good. Seen him live twice he's just as good. It was wonderful watching you discover this music, it feels like discovering it for the first time myself all over again. Next you should listen to Manhatten Skyline, Train of Thought, I've Been Losing You, Out of Blue Comes Green, Cry Wolf, The Blood That Moves The Body. Can't wait until the next A-ha set! I feel like you may have had to go and have a lie down after that reaction to centre yourself again 😆

A truly great and unique band. It's always a thrill to see someone listening to them for the first time. After their third album they'll morph and change but always into something unique and beautiful. If you make it to the "East of the Sun, West of the Moon" album - - where they take a right turn into the kind of music they grew up on, it will be much different but DON'T skip it - - it's AMAZING. Enjoy!

Aha? The Dude like the guys from Norway.
But can you hold it against him....NO! A-HA is one of the best bands of 80s and 90s in my mind.
They are teenage memories and my neighbours if we talk land wise. I am from Denmark and they from Norway, so I live 2 Countries down from them. A-HA is for Norway, what ABBA and Roxette was for Sweden in my mind, with a lot of great music and especially amazing videos, that stood out from others at that time in the 80s.
In the song Summer moved On, the Dude did not hear wrong, with that long note. Morten Harket broke the world record, for the man who could hold the longest single note in a song in 2000, with that same song of 20,2 second. He`s voice for me, is in the top 10 of all time.

Even though my favorite band in the 80s was Duran Duran, I loved the way A-Ha experimented with range, harmony, instrumentation and time signature. They were quewntisentially themselves. The other thing is how haunting a lot of their songs are, weirdly, their music reminds me of bleak snow covered days in the North of Scotland where I went to Boarding School.

Morten was on the British Masked Singer and they supposedly didn't know it was him. Total BS. His voice is instantly recognizable for anyone old enough to remember their hits. I got to see them once in NYC a while back. He sounded exactly the same live. It was a smaller venue too so his voice filled the place.

Great reaction. First people thought AHA were just another 80s pop group. And don't forget they had to compete with the big guns those days and there were a lot. But they impressed with Morten Harket's phenomenal voice, amazing instrumentation and great melodies. That's how synths have to be used. And Morten achieved the European record for the longest note held in a top 40 pop song; Harket sustains a chest voice note for 20.2 seconds (eight measures). (Wikipedia). That was the last song of your reaction video "Summer moved on" released in 2000. So your speculation that it must be a newer video was right even that it was the AHA sound we used to listen to.

I told them: wanna bet? Then i showed them the live version. I think i clocked him live in on 20 seconds sustained high note, before he had to take a breath. People didnt say a word after that! He says about that high note: "I think that`s Paal`s attempt in keeping me young" 🤣
