In Memoriam: BJ Thomas Performs "Some Hearts Get All the Breaks"

- This clip is different to anything I've done before. This is a song that I wrote when I was a songwriter and producer. My cowriter, Larry Jenkins and I wrote a song for former Blood Sweat and Tears lead singer, David Clayton-Thomas.
During the session Pete Drake offered to cover the song the next time he recorded with BJ Thomas.

My oldest brother was in High School in the late 60's-early 70's.He bought all B.J.Thomas 45 singles at the local corner drug store in Saginaw, MI. He played them over and over till they where white. And he bought them again and played till no end! That's when we lived in Michigan. All those records came back to the Central San Joaquin Valley in a small town near Fresno! Great memories! RIP Texan, B.J. Thomas!
I love this song from B.J. Thomas. It was on B.J's the "Great American Dream" CD which I own. Great Pictures of B.J. Thomas. Rest In Peace, BJ!!!

The beautiful, unmistakable, flawless voice of B J Thomas. Oh! are we gonna miss you!
You left a tremendous body of grade A+ work, but the most important to me were your
gospel records. They got me thru many a dark night. Rest in peace, music man, and man

Hi Joe, beautiful song...nice job,Sir!!!
B.J.will always be one of my faves...
Thanx for the Memories...
Once upon a time, Houston had a great music scene. My fathers’ best friend from Austin HS was a young songwriter named Frank Zambon. His mother in law lived just a few houses down the street from me (where I still live today, in fact) but you folks know him as Mark James. He wrote a good hit for BJ Thomas called “Hooked on Feeling”, another one for Elvis, and a big hit for Willie Nelson as well. But you folks already know all that! I remember him visiting us when I was little, he seemed like a real decent guy. Also, my uncle’s best friend and best man at his wedding was Steve Tyrell- pretty well known singer of jazz standards and such. Another great guy!
Thanks for sharing Reversible… Joe
Beautiful Song Joe! 🙏 Great pics too. R.I.P. BJ
One of my all-time favorite vocalist. I didn’t learn of his passing until just now and had no idea that he was even sick. We’re all here for just a moment in time, then gone. RIP BJ Thomas, see you on the other side.
Beautiful song....and the inimitable b. J. Thomas interpretation. Pete Drake a great producer. B. J. Worked with some of the best producers and song writers.....in the music industry.
He had a wonderfully distinctive voice. Now he's with Jesus. My condolences to his friends and family.

Such power. His love for Jesus always shows through. Great song. Re- release it now ! Thanks. RIP B.J. You are where you wanted to be.
Thanks for watching fob... Joe
I have been an avid fan of B.J. Saw him in concert only once. Bough most of his recording from the late 70's and all of the 80s. His voice was a wonder. And like Elvis, he didn't sound like anyone else.
I had never heard this magnificent song before. Thanks for sharing it. And I never saw pictures of Gloria before either.
His death was like a strike to my solar plexus.
Thanks for sharing your comments Tim..... Joe
BJ fez parte de minha época de jovem, jovem na igreja
Ele era referência pra nós crentes ( jovens), na década de 90, era benção demais
Vai deixar saudade!!
It's neat when people use the gifts God gives them. It always leads to good things. This guy, human like us all, found his niche in life. Well, done, BJ Thomas. God Bless.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts C C.... Joe
I remember back in the late sixties I was in Nashville.printers ally..curly Chalker was a friend he was in the band.I was a newbie in Nashville.I’m sitting near the stage
These two guys came in and flop down right there at my table? It was B.J.Thomas and Bobby Goldsboro...Bobby did his famous cricket sound.
Soon they were gone to the club next door! Ahahahahaha love the memory.
@@brendakayeperry6860 Hey that's cool. My oldest sister got me hooked on Bobby Goldsboro way back when I was a kid in the 60's. He was very versatile. Great singer/song writer. Still love his stuff. We really lucked out having so much talent back then. And the music lives on. Thanks for your story. That's a keeper.
A great loss indeed, reflecting on the first time i heard ' eyes of a New York Woman' it was a moving experience , you know one of those songs that give one a sense of saddness and longing Yet elevate you to that special musical place that just a few singers could do, BJ was one of the Best and since the news broke of his passing Our house and studio have been filled with the sound of his voice, words can never convey my gratitude to you Joe for all you do in sharing your most remarkable videos along with memories You are Loved and from us here in pacific Canada Long may you run Big Thanks to MHoFM
Incredibly kind of you LSAC.... Best, Joe
I heard the sad news about BJ’s passing. I could write a book about all the good times I had with his music. I put his music on that day in my shop and had a wonderful time reminiscing about the good ole days. Thank you BJ. Your songs live on in my heart and many others.
Thanks Sarge.... Joe
Growing up in Bridgeport, near Saginaw, my sister and I would often buy records in downtown Saginaw. She moved to Ca. in 1969. She now lives in a town near Fresno, Hanford, Ca.
I did not know of BJ Thomas passing until now when I saw your post, Thank you for this beautiful tribute, So sorry for this great loss,
Thanks for watching Nancy..... Joe
Great singer, history has proven that. And what a superb song to which he did justice. Nicely done in all aspects - vocals, arrangements, supporting cast. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks Roger…… Joe
I remember that beautiful song very well Joe.. Another great one is gone... BJ had a very soulful voice.. that was one of a kind... wow.. RIP BJ...
Thanks for watching Gwag.... Joe
Great song and we'll done by BJ Thomas. Kind of has an Alabama vibe. Would be nice to hear Home Free cover it, too.
Beautiful song done to perfection by Mr Thomas. When it started all I could think of was, "Did you really need all those strings?" :-)
I've forgotten who asked that. I think it was about He Stopped Loving Her Today. As I said, a beautiful song done to perfection.
I was shocked by the news of his passing. I wasn't aware of his lung cancer diagnosis so it caught me by surprise. I too am seventy-eight so each of these is a reminder of the fragile nature of life no matter how resilient we think we are.
At least his great recordings live on. Thanks, Joe.
Thanks Ed... Joe
I love BJ music music
Hello Patricia how are you doing??
Someone listed a poll on the Net who they thought is/were the three best singers of all time. My choices were #1: Karen Carpenter - no doubt about it she was the best of the best. My #2 choice: BJ Thomas - such an extraordinary voice - he always sent your emotions into high gear whatever he sang and #3: Engelbert Humperdinck. The man has an incredible voice. RIP Karen and BJ - the world misses you so much but endless thanks for your voices from Heaven itself. You are LEGEND. Thanks for the video.
RIP BJ 💐 🎶 💙

Touching song!
This is beautiful. Thanks! Saw BJ in concert in 1984. Always marveled on how he could sing so flawless with such ease. I have 1500+ vinyl LPs (rock, jazz, CCM, etc) and have more of BJ than any other single artist or band. We were blessed to have been entertained by the likes of a BJ Thomas. He had no equal. He will be missed.
I agree Randy... B.J was as good as they come. Thanks for watching...Joe
I wish I wrote the title of the song alone. Great song. What a voice. What a great voice.
While on vacation from SF in 75, we saw him perform twice the same night at Disneyland. He was emaciated but got better later in his life. Wonderful performer!
Thanks for watching Sue.... yes he had substance problems during those years but thankfully he recovered. Best, Joe
I'm 31 years clean & sober so i know his struggle and the life he lived after active addiction. Thank you for your response.

Very beautiful song indeed Joe and yes it did sound like it belongs in a movie soundtrack....loved B.J.Thomas...
Thanks Michael... Joe
RIP BJ ❤️🌹
An older friend turned me onto B.J. in the early 90s I always wanted him to have a few more hit songs. GREAT voice. Always reminded me of Elvis.
Yeah, like Elvis. Personally, I like his rendition of "Love Me Tender" better than the Elvis version. I don't think Elvis minds my saying so. He had a couple of hits all to himself anyway.
Beautiful song, Joe. Great title. RIP BJ Thomas. Your legacy will live on.
Thanks for watching Free.... Joe
Gonna miss that voice RIP BJ
Me too Jim... not another B.J... best, Joe
Congratulations to audience love 60s I live in Mexico City sorry dead rip NJ Thomas

You are welcome! 🤠
Very nice song Joe, & BJ really makes the song shine,,just like all his songs he cut. BJ really had a way from presence, to actually doing the singing,,,IMO. What a string of good songs he left to the World. Thanks to your crew there, for putting this clip together.
Beautiful
Oh man, what a sweet voice, what a vocalist!
Great song, great production, great vocals. Pete Drake just knew how to perfectly complement the singer and the song, he didn't do a lot here but what he did do is intrinsic. It reminds me of the long slide he did on Charlie Rich's "Most Beautiful Girl" , that single string slide up the fret board is an essential lick whoever does that song, it wouldn't be the same without it. Genius .
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Shooter…. Joe C.
One of them little red hearts right back at you .
Thanks for sharing this. It is very awesome. May BJ Thomas rest in peace. Cheers, Joe!
