Love these special coach editions!
While I love Coaches corner and am extremely grateful to get such experts as Dan Lorang on, I couldn't help but notice Heather interrupted Dan numerous times during the interview. It would be nice to let the coach/expert speak freely, no matter the duration of the video or direction he takes the answer. I'm pretty sure most of viewers appreaciate the knowledge and would love to watch even if a video is a bit longer.
Yes. Seemed unusually rushed, like Heather had to be somewhere else.
I don't think that was her intention, to me she seemed pretty engaged and asked good follow up questions throughout.
If it was time-pressed, it might be that GTN was trying to respect the coach's schedule.
Either way I agree that a longer-form interview format would be awesome!
Great content, and I also want to compliment the coach on delivering all this information so well in a non-native language. He is both a great subject-matter expert and bilingual (at least!), which is pretty cool.
great interview, lots of infos/advices. Thank you.
Wow!Another geat one guys! Easy explained and very open coach! 👏
Thanks Dan, Heather, and @gtn for answering my question!
Wonderful content and interview. Strength training and recovery as you get older are more important than mileage and days off to perform at a high level.
The Coach really shared a lot. its really useful tips esp on fatigue simulation for shorter time👍
30 sec efforts on the bike for strength. That's me. This guy knows his stuff and shares it willingly. Thank you
Nice and very important topic for recreational runners 👍
Great advice 👍 thanks
🙇♂️ superb!
Great vid! Thanks
#gtncoachescorner - I have just completed my first 70.3 in Muskoka, Canada, and wouldn’t be able to do it without a lot of these great and helpful videos. Thank you. ❤ The night before my 70.3 this year, and the night before my first Olympic triathlon last year were terrible. I believe the nerves got the best of me, and I slept three or four hours at most. I’m not sure if this affected my performance. I took some melatonin to help me fall asleep, but quickly woke up in the middle of the night. What best practices can we put in the place to help with pre-race nerves?
Hi #gtncoachescorner with the heat rising exponentially in Italy in the last couple of weeks, I have troubles keeping my heart rate down in my easy runs/rides. Should I look more at perceived effort to balance the intensity or should I slow down and cut short my activities even more to balance the effect of the temperature and humidity?
#gtncoachescorner: Hi folks! First of all, your videos have been absolutely essential for me over the last 10 months or so, when I first started training for sprint triathlons. I'm 40 years old, and this is the first time I've ever had a consistent exercise routine. My question is, how will I know if I'm ready to go from a sprint tri (I've done two; the other was a last-minute run/bike/run due to inclement weather) to a 70.3? My workouts are all geared toward tri training, but I'm so new to not only tris, but training in general. The 70.3 I'd be looking at is in June (it's early Jan. as I write this), do I have time? I also work full time and have lots of other commitments and interests, so I can't train like many of your pro and semi-pro viewers. Or should I just give it a shot and see what happens?
#gtncoachescorner I recently completed my first Ironman 70.3 but I noticed that during the last few weeks of training when the summer temperatures started to get warmer, my VO2 max started to drop and now even after a few weeks of light recovery sessions it still hasn’t gone back up. I have a couple of marathons coming up during the fall and I’m worry that I won’t be able to reach my goal times given that I feel like I’m not progressing. Does summer heat affect your VO2 max or should I be concerned that it might be something else?
For the coaches corner - please do a video on basic home weight training for triathletes. You often mention that weight training is recommended - and you had something on Olympic weight lifting at a gym - but it would be super helpful to see a video on what us age groupers could do at home with a few free weights and maybe some bands or medicine balls and other simple things. This way we have no excuse about how far the gym is or what hours it’s open…. Thanks
They've done a number of videos on strength training - scroll back through the archives. Lots of helpful at home and accessible exercises.
Hi Dave, thanks for your comment! We have a video here 👉 czcams.com/video/EUkE-JUtWoM/video.html which might be of use to you but we'll pass this on to our presenters too! 🙌
#gtncoachscorner do you have advice for what exercises to do to hold an aero position for longer? Thanks v much for all the advice I got from your videos before my first 70.3
No mention of Dan coaching the amazing Lucy Charles Barclay Heather !

Hello GTN Family,
Got a question about heat adaptation ... BUT going from hoooot to fresh weather.
I'm currently training in Dubai, with outdoor temperatures of 36-40*C ... prepping for IM Copenhagen, where the race should be done in the mid 20s i understand.
I'll be there a week ahead of race day.
Apart from doing the sessions currently in my taper plan, locally, is there any tips and tricks to consider?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Seb
Did you check the sound?
It’s really bad.
I ride a 12 year old rim brake road bike with tri bars. I was considering upgrading wheels are alloy aero wheels any good? I can't find anything on the subject which makes me wary thanks! #gtncoachescorner
#gtncoachescorner I struggling a bit with drinking while ridding my bike every time I try I lose balance and start to wobble. Can you give me advice
#gtncoachescorner This is a question about recovery for a 53 year male,,,. After finishing IM 70.3 Jönköping this weekend I accidentally went to the prize ceremony and slot allocation award to see if my friend could get a rolldown slot to IM 70.3 Worlds in Lahti. When it came to my age group there were a couple of slots left and I accidentally raised my hand and signed up for a slot. Fine, only one problem... I'm doing IM Kalmar the weekend before. Last year in Kalmar I came in just under 12 hours, and the aim for this year has been to get down to about 11:15 with the most improvement on the marathon.
Best advice and solution for a very quick recovery in 7 days? Just rest and massage and some short very easy swim and bike sessions??
Btw, my friend also got a ticket to Lahti, but he's not doing Kalmar this year.
This girl is so annoying
For Coaches Corner: I am wondering about zone 2 training. I recently did a functional lactate diagnostic and now I have a training recommendation of running the majority of my runs in 133-144 bpm. This is quite difficult for me, I am rather heavy and I just started running last August. I have noticed, that over prolonged exercise, I cannot really recover my heart rate anymore. I start with zone 2 running and after ca 5 minutes, I have to walk for a few seconds to get the heart rate low again, and then I get running again. But over time, that doesn't work any longer. After an hour of doing that, I run for 15 seconds and my heart rate jumps to 147+ and it takes me almost 2 minutes to get the heart rate back to 133.
Is that normal? Should I just continue? Can I expect this to go down over time? Sorry for the long explanation :/
