I am 15, and I’ve been knitting since the age of 5 and crocheting since the age of 11, and one thing that I think is really important for new crafters to know before they start is that cheaper yarn is not a bad thing at all! I made this mistake even just a few years ago by spending so much on expensive yarn but normal dk yarn from my local yarn shop worked just as well if not better! 🥰🧶

    • @EliseRoseCrochet

I did the exact same thing and I haven't used any of it. I crochet and my main thing I love making is amigrumi. So those yarns aren't great for that type of project. I'm so glad to see someone your age still knitting. It's so important that we pass this craft knitting/crocheting onto the next generation. Keep crafting.

@@BeeWOWdbyAprilLee thank you so much!! My mum can knit, and her mum taught her, and she taught me and my younger sister (who is 11) how to knit when we were at the age of 5! And then when I learnt how to crochet about 3-4 years ago, I taught her! It’s such a lovely way to keep myself occupied and I have no idea what I would do without my craft, I’d fall to pieces! 😜😘🧶❤️ xx

You & TL are my favorite crochet CZcamsrs! I've been wanting to do something like this for a while but haven't sat down to do it yet so having the mini pattern will be nice to have in my back pocket. Premier is one of my favorite budget friendly yarns. Cotton blends are my personal favorite because you get the sturdiness of the cotton and the softness or sheen of whatever it's blended with. I want to get my hands on that anti pilling now, though! A decent color selection is SO important for amigurumi.

@@EliseRoseCrochet I'm really glad I learned to read crochet patterns as a kid. When I first learned to crochet I wasn't old enough for pattern reading but, soon figured out the "secret code." So, when I got interested in knitting reading patterns was easier (just a slightly different "code").
The knit toys pattern book I bought has me knitting the parts flat, with some shopping, then seaming them up and stuffing before constructing.
I enjoy crocheting amigurumi toys. They seem to work up faster. I've freehanded some cat toys for my 4 kitties. A kind of carrot looking kick toys and some balls in various sizes. I just used some leftover worsted weight from other projects. They were good practice. Lol!

    Hi Elise
Thank you for sharing this is a very handy thing to know. Unfortunately in Australia we don’t have Premier yarns readily available in my local “Spotlight” stores, so I will definitely need to test out what our yarns test like. I’ve only made 3 amigurumi toys when I first learned to crochet a hippopotamus doll with a tutu (which I gave to my niece who loved it so much that I realised I didn’t stuff it enough - I forgave myself as it was my first attempt at Amigurumi 😂), a butterfly rattle (I got better with stuffing it but couldn’t figure out how to stitch the wings on 😂 also greatly loved by my friends daughter 😅), and the Valentine bear I realised when I was stuffing the body I could see the stuffing 😬 and when attaching the body parts my needle was pulling up the stuffing at times but overall I was impressed with what I accomplished as a beginner. I obviously have a lot to work on before I’ll be completely happy with my work 😂
That’s why I’m thankful that I was told to look up PlanetJune at the time as she helped so much with the stitching invisible stitches etc. forward to this year a few months ago when I found the crochet and yarn community on CZcams and your channel - especially all things to do with Kitty Kats as I have two of my own and I love Mr Pickle and Miss Olive 😻😻
I look forward to learning more from you to help me grow in my skills in doing Amigurumi. I love the idea of the neck light.
Take care and stay safe and well. God bless 🙏🏼💕😊🧶

I'm still trying to build a stash. 95% of my current stash is abandoned yarn balls found in a closed up room in a house we moved into. So all the yarn is no label or no longer in production. I don't even have a storage space to build into beyond thrown into a bin and stuck in the shed. My husband hates that it migrates to the bedroom when i get in the mood to crochet. The only thing I have figured out is I don't like the super saver brand. It's very harsh. Works great for plastic canvas, not so fun to crochet with

I understood from a comment long ago that these fuzzy eyelash yarns need to be used after the amigurmi is croched or section by section. That way you have a pattern or row of stitches to follow sl stitching the fancy yarn on to.

I'm an Aussie crocheter and a lot of you CZcamsrs work with either DK or worsted weight yarn, but here in Australia our main yarns are 8ply...when watching you guys I notice that your projects are larger OR your stitch sizes are bigger...for example, my DC's always seem to be half the height of your American DC's...now my tension is good, stitches are not tight, I'm able to get my hooks through the yarn without a struggle, yet they are always smaller..is it me or is it because I'm using a ply that is not the same to what the original pattern calls for...??

    • @EliseRoseCrochet
      @EliseRoseCrochet  Před rokem +1

Any time you're using a different weight yarn, you will have a different outcome. I looked up what we would call 8 ply here in the US and we would call that a DK weight. I wouldn't worry about the size unless it bothers you. Smaller toys are adorable!! 🧶🧶🧶

thanks @@EliseRoseCrochet..I'm looking to try my hand at craft market stalls in the new year and you seem to have some helpful tips, like working out pricing and so forth..I commented on your post showing those wooden doll stands and commented how expensive they would be to buy down under, well today I stopped at our local hardware store, Bunnings, and picket up the material to make some...I bought enough to make four, used your system to calculate the cost and it worked out less the $4.00 AUD to make...so if they work well I may include them in my stall...
also, if I make toys using either your patterns, or any other YT's patterns I might purchase, am I then allowed to sell under my name if I include the designers name as well..??

Grazie mille
