Dean died rather recently but not before he rerecorded this. He still had it! Thumbs up just for doing this song. It's very much reflective of the late 60s attitude and the social changes. For myself, I found it intriguing that it seemed to describe exactly a lot of what was going on with the youth in the US....and this is a Scottish band!
just to point out to anybody hearing of this for the first time, Dean's rerecording wasn't the same timbre and range of voice he had when he was much younger, but he still had a singing voice, yes. It was like Dean did a cover of himself, and did it very well.

I was shocked how good his voice was so many years later. The emotion was still there too. Of course it wasn't the same as the original, but it was not "less than". Its more of "a changing, from sunlight, to moonlight" . : ) Appropos I'd say. And poignant to have the young adult and later-life versions as reflections of his life.

This song is a good example of what is missing from a lot of today's music. This song has HEART, the missing ingredient from so much of the current Pop scene! You don't have to be musical virtuosos, or use hyper- tech equipment to convey honest human emotion. Some of our greatest music, including The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix, were recorded on 4 track tape recorders. Now we have 48 tracks, auto tuners, synthesizers and more, but, with few exceptions, the HEART is nowhere to be seen or heard!

I am 74 years old. I was a young 21 year old when i first heard it while stationed in South Vietnam in 1969. We were all thinking of our loved ones at home and reflecting on our lives. My grandfather died while I was there. I was not allowed to go back to the states for his funeral. All I had was my memories of him. Fast forward to 2022 and i love this song even more. I plan to have the song played at my funeral. Cherish your loved one while they are with you, when they are gone you will only have memories (reflections).
Great choice.... Bad Finger are another fantastic band they have a handful of top hits but one called “ Day after Day( I give my love to you) is my favourite one by them.

This band brings back a heap of memories. I went to school in north London, my friends and I used to sneak out of school at lunchtime to watch Marmalade practise at a house nearby before they made the big time. It was great to be a teenager in the 60's.
One of the reasons this song resonates so much is because it's arranged a lot like the Beatles used to arrange, especially the percussion and the use of the orchestra.

In addition to being a great vocalist, he played almost every instrument track on the double-album, the bass track on Reflections Of My Life being the one exception. As a young teen this was just another song that stood out as a nice one to listen too. It took many years before I really listened n understood the words. Great react. Loved it when you started over. I like that you appreciate the mixing of instruments and how the blended the music. No autotune some in raw mono form. So much went into this era's sounds. And please, as you continue your journey in my music, notice that many singer/writers didn't just work for themselves. Many artists became famous for songs written by another famous writer singer. Oh Jayvee you have found another wonderful song and band Terry and I had forgot. I was 16, Terry 17 when this was released and Mum had my brother go out and buy it. I knew the bass player in this band, Graham, his brother in law is my best friend. I have met Graham many times and got good and drunk with him, he's a Sotsman and he's a real nice guy. I haven't seen or heard from him in years now, I'm sure he's still playing though, this song probably.

This song came out in 1969 and I was a sophomore in high school. I am now 70 years old and this song is now considered the anthem of the Viet Nam War generation, but especially its veterans. All too many of them were treated badly when they came home. It's good to see that younger folks of your generation have come to appreciate this song, based on the number who have posted retrospective appreciation of it here at CZcams.
A hugely profound and magnificently composed song. It grips me with every listen- I never fail to be filled with emotion when I hear it, and when I see how quickly it all goes past us. The comment about changing the environment around us was completely fresh for me. Good job. When Junior plays his world-class solo, notice how the bass line and his melody intermingle in a gorgeous manner; I never heard that use of 'currents of sound' washing and blending. Such beauty is rare indeed.
A sign of a good YT channel is when the forums never die. Someone asked if this song could have been about fighting in the Vietnam war. With all the songs written back then, this would have fit - having told of the life of a solder wanting to complete the tour and return home.
They guy playing left-handed guitar in the video is Junior Campbell, who wrote the song with Dean Ford, the singer. He played lead guitar (with reverse tape effects) on the record and did all the string arrangements. The two of them had superb harmonies, and, with bassist Graham Knight had great three-part harmonies. There is another video showing them playing it truly live in 1970, well worth a look.
Just joined you as week or so ago. Listened to a about 15 of your reviews. It is so cool to see a young man hearing the music from my youth (I am 60) for the first time and seeing how much it impacts you. It gives me hope, ya know? I know there are others who feel the same way. The variety...everything from Pasty Cline to Nirvana...you listen to it all. You have another trait that people who Listen to music, (with a capital L on purpose). When the lyrics and the melody lock into the vocals, and it is just right...you listen with your eyes closed. So do I. So do a lot of people who love music. I think we do it to try to close out everything but what our ears are delivering, to raise the impact another notch. Here is one for ya that will have you closing your eyes...George MacCrae "Rock Your Baby" from 1974. His voice...I remember hearing it for the first time on the FM stereo station, over a Pioneer SuperTuner and Jenson Speakers, LOL.

It was written by Bill Campbell Junior's Campbell's brother. Bill replaced Paul in the Beatles in August 1966. His previously released the song with his band 'Billy Pepper and the Pepperpots'.
I was a roadie for geno washington and the ram jam band and they at the time where unknown in the uk apart from scotland, and they where on the bill in edinburgh george street a gig for uni leavers, and i was at side of stage when i heard them play and remember thinking they are good, same deal in fife scotland, kinema ballroom listening to resident band nazareth unknown as well, and another band at the uni gig was the sensational alex harvey band, lots of bands just about to make it, sure was an interesting time, as we usually toured with love affair, amen corner etc, but marmalade went onto being a class band and all of them great singers, and musicians.
My very first reason to be thankful for Facebook. Someone sent me this song and for some inexplicable reason, since I used to listen to music non-stop when this came out, I had never heard it before. In any case , like you, I love it. It could be I thought it was the Bee Gees and put it in the "later" file and later never came. Anyway, I found it and I am grateful. So sorry about Dean Ford's passing. He surely deserved more recognition.

I'm 68 and I remember hearing this song when it first came out and believe me Ito this day its still one of my top three favorite songs of my life.
The singer was Dean Ford. He just passed away a few years ago. I remember 1970, and I suspect the song had something to do with the Viet Nam war. Anyway, this is one of those songs that has stayed with me all of my life. It grabs the heart and guts, especially if you were old enough to notice the world back then. :)

As a young teen this was just another song that stood out as a nice one to listen too. It took many years before I really listened n understood the words. Great react. Loved it when you started over. I like that you appreciate the mixing of instruments and how the blended the music. No autotune some in raw mono form. So much went into this era's sounds. And please, as you continue your journey in my music, notice that many singer/writers didn't just work for themselves. Many artists became famous for songs written by another famous writer singer. Linda rondstadt, the monkees, etc. It is gratifying to watch a young person really enjoying my era's great music. Thank you for that

Oh Jayvee you have found another wonderful song and band Terry and I had forgot. I was 16, Terry 17 when this was released and Mum had my brother go out and buy it. She had many single records and we had many evenings when she played music and the younger ones tired themselves out dancing lol. This song is a favorite when I was younger we could not get the soul songs on the radio and it was so different so my sister and I listen to the white singers Tom Jones Etc I did not get to hear songs by popular songs by black artist and being a young black teen we could not share what we listen to! I knew the bass player in this band, Graham, his brother in law is my best friend. I have met Graham many times and got good and drunk with him, he's a Sotsman and he's a real nice guy. I haven't seen or heard from him in years now, I'm sure he's still playing though, this song probably.

Dean Ford sang and co-wrote this song. It was very popular with our military in Vietnam. Even they were surprised by the quality of music being released at that time.

This song came out in 1969 and I was a sophomore in high school. I am now 70 years old and this song is now considered the anthem of the Viet Nam War generation, but especially its veterans. All too many of them were treated badly when they came home.

A hugely profound and magnificently composed song. It grips me with every listen- I never fail to be filled with emotion when I hear it, and when I see how quickly it all goes past us. The comment about changing the environment around us was completely fresh for me. Good job. When Junior plays his world-class solo, notice how the bass line and his melody intermingle in a gorgeous manner; I never heard that use of 'currents of sound' washing and blending. Such beauty is rare indeed.

They guy playing left-handed guitar in the video is Junior Campbell, who wrote the song with Dean Ford, the singer. He played lead guitar (with reverse tape effects) on the record and did all the string arrangements. The two of them had superb harmonies, and, with bassist Graham Knight had great three-part harmonies. There is another video showing them playing it truly live in 1970, well worth a look.
Just joined you as week or so ago. Listened to a about 15 of your reviews. It is so cool to see a young man hearing the music from my youth (I am 60) for the first time and seeing how much it impacts you. It gives me hope, ya know? I know there are others who feel the same way. The variety...everything from Pasty Cline to Nirvana...you listen to it all.

When the lyrics and the melody lock into the vocals, and it is just right...you listen with your eyes closed. So do I. So do a lot of people who love music. I think we do it to try to close out everything but what our ears are delivering, to raise the impact another notch.

It was written by Bill Campbell Junior's Campbell's brother. Bill replaced Paul in the Beatles in August 1966. His previously released the song with his band 'Billy Pepper and the Pepperpots'.
I was a roadie for geno washington and the ram jam band and they at the time where unknown in the uk apart from scotland, and they where on the bill in edinburgh george street a gig for uni leavers, and i was at side of stage when i heard them play and remember thinking they are good, same deal in fife scotland, kinema ballroom listening to resident band nazareth unknown as well, and another band at the uni gig was the sensational alex harvey band, lots of bands just about to make it, sure was an interesting time, as we usually toured with love affair, amen corner etc, but marmalade went onto being a class band and all of them great singers, and musicians.
My very first reason to be thankful for Facebook. Someone sent me this song and for some inexplicable reason, since I used to listen to music non-stop when this came out, I had never heard it before. In any case , like you, I love it. It could be I thought it was the Bee Gees and put it in the "later" file and later never came. Anyway, I found it and I am grateful. So sorry about Dean Ford's passing. He surely deserved more recognition.
